- Sean H0 contributionsA trip highlight!Such a fun night and definitely have dinner before, because there is a lot of alcohol! Our instructor was excellent and she taught us how to make several classic cocktails and how to use different bar tools. We really enjoyed our night and highly recommend this class!Written November 15, 2024
- Kapur F0 contributionsNo Frozen Daiquiris AllowedThe class was light and fun—great for novice and well-versed liquor drinkers alike. I would recommend not drinking beforehand, because there is plenty served during the class. We started our girls trip off right—highly recommend.Written November 9, 2024

- J4835MFkellyr0 contributionsHighly recommend this intimate introduction to art of perfect cocktailKarissa was a fantastic instructor. The class was perfectly paced and gave a nice introduction to the art of both stirred and shaken cocktails with lots of history along the way. I have the confidence to prepare a solid drink and tweak it with my own special touches.Written October 11, 2024
- jwatsclt0 contributionsInformative class for craft cocktailingWe learned how to make cocktails properly and use bar tools. We made 2 classic cocktails and drank 3 other cocktails the bartender made. If you only like fruity drinks or vodka you may not like most of the cocktails. If you love spirit forward cocktails you will enjoy this class! We can’t wait to try out our new bar skills.Written September 29, 2024
- OsaDeli0 contributionsFun experience!Took this class on my birthday, and it was great fun! We arrived knowing nothing about cocktails and walked away understanding more about the tools, methods, and different drink styles. The cocktails were hit or miss for my taste, but it was really fun trying a variety I'd never had before. The instructor was super knowledgeable, and the tasty snacks were a great bonus. Highly recommend for a fun, hands-on experience!Written September 21, 2024
- michaelpB9407QV0 contributionsEvery bar trip should be like this! This experience was awesome and so was Rebecca! Everything was incredibly informative and fun to experience. For us it was a smaller class than usual which actually enhanced it. Great time, don't pass on this! It's attached to the prohibition museum too so you can really make a night out of it!Written July 28, 2024
- 196LindaC0 contributionsGreat museumI love small museums dedicated to one particular subject. The museum was fun with many nice displays and I learned a lot about this small period of time in American History. It is located in the City Market.Written July 2, 2024
- VeniceVerdon0 contributionsVisit the museum and have a drink at the speakeasyInteresting museum on the history of prohibition in the country. Uses a mix of mediums (wax figures, video technology, etc.) to explain the time period to museum goers. There is a speakeasy where you can order beverages (you can also get mocktails if you do not drink). Bathrooms are available near the speakeasy area of the museum. Bartender at the speakeasy was a little harried (perhaps short-staffed that day)? When it turned out the drink I wanted from the menu wasn't available, instead of asking/waiting for me to select another option, he skipped over me and continued with the next person in line, so ended up leaving without a beverage.Written July 1, 2024
- Pennay030 contributions5 Stars - hands down!Karissa was a great teacher! She was so nice and she addressed everyone by name (said my name multiple times, which is a big deal to me because everyone always messes it up at least once!). I learned so much and have a great time with my Mom (because I had her drinks too). Definitely worth the money and time.Written June 25, 2024
- Salina L0 contributionsHave and learn how to make your favorite drink. Learn some history and have a great time with friends! Cool atmosphere! This was such a wonderful experience! My friends and I learned SO much (history and bartending), got great drinks and had fun! We learned how to decipher what went into a drink by taste and smell and how to tweak drinks to make them more personalized. Loved the atmosphere! It was a meld of speakeasy and modern. Our bartending teacher, Rebecca, was so engaging and funny! Would recommend to ANYONE visiting!Written June 9, 2024
- Sightsee2957300 contributionsJust book it!!!I discovered this class while touring the Prohibition Museum and knew it was a must-do and booked it that night. Best decision!! This class was phenomenal! Isabella is a fantastic instructor. She made this class fun and entertaining as well as educational. My sister and I had a blast and I have some new home bartending skills to show off! Hands down, this class was the cherry on top of our trip and we made some great friends in class as well!!! the teeniest feedback is that the booking info says you go home with a bar tool-it was a small recipe book-which is awesome but not what I personally think of as a bar tool but that’s just me -I’m sure that many consider that a tool and it certainly doesn’t change my opinion of the class because it was well worth my time and money. I would do it again!!!Written May 10, 2024
- thv23270 contributionsFun new drinks!!The experience was phenomenal! We learned so many new techniques from a different era that can be used to in everyday mixed cocktails! An absolute must!Written May 1, 2024
- catherinecR7407VA0 contributionsA nice way to spend some time in City MarketThis is a cute little museum about the history of American Prohibition. I did this one self-guided; it might have been better on a tour. While the exhibits are pretty self-explanatory, I had a hard time following the narrative thread of the museum. It can get a little cramped as everyone stops to read the same displays. The speakeasy upstairs is neat! It was my favorite part of the museum.Written April 18, 2024

I made a reservation a week ahead of our visit to the Museum. At the time I made the reservation, I did not know that weekend was being celebrated as Saint Patrick's day. When we tried to reach the museum about an hour before our reservation, we could not get close because of the crowds. Because we could not get into the museum, I requested a refund. I did not receive an answer. I admit this was partially my fault for making a reservation at a time when Savannah is usually packed with people, however it would have been really good if the Museum's website and collection operation could have suggested arriving early due to the crowds.
As I understand from friends who actually have visited the museum it is a worth a look.

Hello 613williamm,
I’m really quite concerned by this one star review. Not only because we receive so few, but because it came such a long time after your museum experience took place. Also, we do not have a time scheduled reservation system for the museum. We are a self guided experience with NO tour times. The 2020 Saint Patrick’s Day festival in Savannah was cancelled several days before the event was supposed to take place due to Coronavirus. Because of this, the attendees of the Saint Patrick’s Day festival in Savannah were less than 1/8 of its usual attendance. There were no stages to set up in City Market, and the museum was open despite the fact we generally close during the Saint Patrick’s Day festival (something we have on both our ticketing platform and our main website). Our attendance in the days leading up to our Coronavirus closure ranged between 50 and 200 guests; nearly a quarter of our normal attendance during the same time. The banner on our website and on our ticketing platform stated that we were going to be open during the Saint Patrick’s Day weekend despite previously having made the decision to close. At no point would we have turned anyone away, nor would anyone have been unable to reach the museum because of blockades or stages. If you are referring to being unable to get to the museum because you could not find a place to park, that is a common occurrence in the city of Savannah. We provide parking to all of our employees because if we did not, most of them would not be able to find a parking spot just to get to work at 8 in the morning. There are many parking garages around the area, as well as parking lots with ferries to downtown that tourists take to where they want to go, as well as Uber’s, Lyfts, and the public transportation, the DOT.
I am sorry you did not receive a reply, and if you would please, call the museum between 9a and 4p Monday through Friday and ask to speak with the Director so we can discuss where you purchased your tickets and if perhaps you may have tickets for a different establishment with a tour schedule. As we were closed for more than 2 months for Coronavirus with a Stay at Home order, we are working our way through sending guests VIP passes to come back if they had planned to come during the national closure, as well as working to get back to business in some semblance of normalcy.

Did not think this museum was worth it. It was small and consisted of a lot of reading. I was under the impression there would be actors and a tour guide and we only experienced one individual in the very beginning. I was very disappointed considering others spoke very highly of their experiences. Felt like a tourist trap would not recommend.

Hi devydee11,
We are sorry to see that we missed the mark with you. With around 5500 square feet of space, we do not normally consider ourselves small. The tour is a self-guided tour that guests are able to go through at their own pace. We tell the story of Prohibition with text panels, over one thousand artifacts, actors in costume, vintage vehicles, and multimedia presentations. As our actors are active throughout the day, it is possible that they had to leave the gallery for a moment. With hundreds of reviews praising our attention to detail and storytelling, we hope that you would give us another shot.
We do have a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, so please feel free to send in your tickets for a full refund. We hope that the rest of your stay in Savannah was a pleasant one.

My wife and I visited this museum as part of a package that we purchased with Old Town Trolley tours. This was a fantastic museum to visit! We also purchased drink tickets to try one of the many period correct cocktails that are made within the museum. This is definitely a stop worth making while in Savannah. The museum is self-guided and does not take very long to go through. There is also a nice NASCAR exhibit in there as well for those fans.

I love this museum! It's a great mix of fun and information. You can tell that they really took a lot of time to find artifacts, set up displays, and write the descriptions. The wax figures are my favorite part, and they add a lot of life to the displays! I also really enjoyed the fact that the staff are all in costume! I definitely think that adults and children will love this museum. The staff was also INSANELY knowledgeable. Any and all questions I had were answered! I'm also very happy with the sanitizing stations and funny mask posters all throughout the museum. Even though I was inside a museum, I felt safe and adequately distanced from anyone else touring. Thank you for the amazing experience and tasty alcoholic Popsicle!

Hi paigeL1127,
Thank you so much for such an outstanding review! We love that you were able to ask questions to some of our actors, and that you truly felt immersed in the space. You can never go wrong with an alcoholic ice pop, so we are glad you tried it and loved it! Cheers!

The "museum" is very well done but more of an exhibit then museum. Lots of cool wax figures cool little quirks about the prohibition era and time leading up to and after it.
The Speak easy is WAY over priced! I would avoid it.
Over all nice to walk around in, I enjoyed it.

Hi teenynjigz,
Thank you for the review. We are glad that you found our exhibits to be well done. We include our wax figures to help tell the entire story of Prohibition. The figures and our docents aid in drawing our guests in to the time period.
The cocktails at the Speakeasy are all handcrafted. They are all made with hand-pressed juices and house made syrups. Even with these touches, we are able to keep our prices below the average cocktail price in Savannah (which is $15). We are not a suds and shots type of place, and we try to help share the love of Prohibition cocktails to all who come in our space.
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay here in Savannah!

Clever, fun and informative. Uses old films, displays, signs, wax figures, memorabilia, and actors to convey the fascinating history of Prohibition. Inside the museum there was one guide, Mike, who did an outstanding job of answering our many questions.

Loved this tour. Our guide was knowledgeable about the Prohibition Era & did an excellent job of managing our group through the museum. The 45 min tour costs extra, but we enjoyed hearing about it and not just reading the displays. At the end of the tour, we had a Prohibition Era drink in the speakeasy and watched a short film in a separate room to conclude the tour. Non alcoholic drinks are available.

I was worried this might be tacky or poorly maintained when I checked it out online and decided to book it, but I was wrong – This is a very nicely maintained museum, with some amazing displays and staff. It flows perfectly telling the history of alcohol and prohibition in the US. The final “room” to visit was our fav, but I’ll save that for you to find out about!
Definitely worth the entrance fee!

We spent some time at the Prohibition Museum during our recent trip to Savannah. Located by the City Market, we visited the Museum and the Speakeasy attached. The museum was okay but we really enjoyed the bar more. If you visit, be aware that a ticket to the museum is required to enter the Speakeasy. There were good drinks and atmosphere, but be forewarned - if you try a couple of glasses of their Chatham Artillery Punch, you'll probably have to go back, because you won't remember much about your visit.

Hello rmartinmitch!
We're so glad you enjoyed your time in the Speakeasy as well as your helpings of Savannah's treasured homegrown cocktail, the Chatham Artillery Punch. It does... well... pack a punch! If it got your memory a bit fuzzy, we'd love to have you visit again. For guests who have seen the Museum before or are most interested in visiting the Speakeasy, Congress Street Up, as a standalone bar, we do offer public bar service on Friday and Saturday nights from 6:30 to midnight, no museum ticket necessary!
Thank you.

Tourist trap! This was highly recommended to go to at the hop on hop off trolley. She even said to buy the tickets for drinks in the speakeasy beforehand bc it's cheaper. That's the tourist trap part. $11 to wait over an hour in a tiny room packed with people also waiting for a 6oz mediocre drink after taking about 20 minutes through a mediocre museum. Don't waste your time or money on this. Read it online at a bar across the street where you'll get a decent drink without the wait inside a hot closet. Also don't bring your kids. It's not a kid friendly event. The museum is very small for walking and nothing there is interesting for young children since it's about the 14 year fight for legalization of booze.

Hello Gina,
We appreciate your feedback about an experience at our Museum that, as you can see from our reviews, is atypical for us. The overwhelming majority of guests view us as a must-see and a highlight during their time in Savannah, GA, far from the "tourist trap" described in your review. We're thankful that very, very few guests have ever felt trapped during their time with us. After all, in nearly seven years of operation, yours is only the eighth one-star review on this platform.
Yes, you're correct that you could easily read about Prohibition from a bar across the street or even from the comfort of your home. As obvious museum lovers, we believe no amount of reading will match the experience of seeing actual artifacts from the time. If that were the case, we wouldn't need museums at all.
Visiting bars in a major drinking destination like Savannah during spring break week is going to cause a wait for drinks. Our bartenders use fresh ingredients, proper techniques, and historic recipes to craft drinks that accurately reflect the historic cocktails of the Prohibition Era and those drinks do take time. We're sorry that that wait was more extensive than you felt comfortable with. As for the quality of the drinks, not every modern palate is going to take to authentic cocktails; that's got nothing to do with mediocrity, but a mere difference in taste. The size of the drinks isn't to give our guests less, but to reflect the accurate ratio of spirit to mixer employed in classic cocktails. We don't water anything down.
Finally, we welcome thousands of children into the Museum every year. As with the rest of your review, the idea that our Museum has nothing for children is simply not reflected in the experience of most other families who visit. Kids love the wax figures, cars, lights & sounds, and photo opportunities. We catch them dancing on the Roaring 20s dance floor, posing with the gangsters, and sipping on mocktails in the Speakeasy. We're proud to welcome many school groups on field trips arranged with us through the Georgia school systems who recognize that there's so much to learn about this massive moment in America's cultural and political history.
At the end of the day, you didn't have a good time. And that doesn't make us feel great; vacations should be filled with nothing but the best of experiences and, unfortunately, we weren't a part of making that happen for you. Our greatest hope is that everything else you discovered in the Hostess City was exactly to your particular liking.
Thank you.
