We finally got to visit the Penn Museum. So much to see and do. The halls of the Penn Museum have several galleries: Egypt, Middle East, Mexico & Central America, Asia, Greece, Etruscan and Native American As well. The exhibits were excellent, I loved being able to read all the information. You can literally be there for 5 hours and still not get to see it all. The artifacts displayed are top notch and they obviously tell the story of these great civilizations. I know I will definitely be back because I did not get to see it all. If you are in Philadelphia and you have several hours, I highly recommend a visit to this museum.

I’ve been meaning to check out the Penn Museum for awhile and the ongoing snow/sleet situation this winter has provided ample opportunity to stay indoors. There is a lot to see at the museum, so pace yourself! It’s a huge collection (some of which are the largest in the US) covering everything from fan favorites like Egyptian art, Greco/Roman/Etruscan pieces, Middle Eastern artifacts and African art. They also have wings devoted to Asian, Native American and Central/South American (e.g. Mayan, Olmec, etc.,) artifacts. The museum has been undergoing an extensive renovation, which is certainly bringing new life to the collection and I imagine all the new touch screens will keep kids happy. Highlights for me were: The Royal Tombs at Ur (Middle Eastern gallery), seeing some of the unwrapped mummies (Egyptian gallery), the Artifact Lab (see what museum conservators do), masks & ivory carvings ( African gallery) and the jewel box space that houses the Greek pieces. Also note the exterior grounds are quite lovely and I would absolutely revisit during the warmer months to enjoy the courtyard & balcony areas.

Be aware there is construction around the museum as well, but I easily found street parking ($2.50 p/hour) two blocks away. If not, the museum website lists both garages and lots available for parking. Regarding tickets, buying timed tickets online will save you $2 off admission. I also spoke with the front desk at the Penn Museum about the joint Mutter Museum ticket. They refunded my original ticket amount and then billed me for the joint ticket.

I love coming to the Penn Museum when I am in Philadelphia. It is a small museum that is packed with many interesting artifacts.

Don't miss the Egyptian and Pre-Columbian Galleries which hold fascinating pieces of art and objects of Gods, funeral items and jewelry as well as many decorative objects.

The new clothing exhibition "What We Wear" is engaging on how clothes change us when we put them on.

The gardens are also a nice place to relax.

The Museum has a large collection of antiquities and is very interesting. Unfortunately, two of the exhibits were closed when we visited - but no reduction in the price of admission.
There is a parking garage adjacent to the museum. Because of a lack of adequate signage and the immense amount of construction in the whole area, it is virtually impossible to find the entrance to the garage. We spent 30 minutes circling the block looking for it. And for the privilege, you pay $17.

Amazing museum, absolutely a must see in Philadelphia. The combination of anthropology and archeology focus really helps to explain what it is that you're looking at and the museum's excellent displays of information, interactive areas, help visitors to really learn about their artifacts more succinctly. Really appreciate their efforts to display and explain their artifacts to visitors.

Staff sitting at the front main entrance Saturday should be fired for how they treat people. My family, friends and anyone I know will never visit there again. What a disgrace to the museum. We drove 3 hrs to be treated like garbage. Very distasteful.

Well organized, expansive museum that’s not as overwhelming as a place like the MET or AMNH (which I do adore). Sections on Israel, Rome, Greece, Etruria, the Middle East, and more. Their Egyptian and Asian section is spectacular, and is housed in a beautiful rotunda. They also have wonderful Native American/First Nation people/Central American peoples exhibits with easy to use, fun interactive kiosks so you can learn more about the artists or artifacts that interest you. They also have a well done small African section.

I spent about three hours here, including a leisurely lunch at the cafe, which includes basic sandwiches, snacks, and drinks—and isn’t as expensive as other museum cafes—assuming because it’s a campus museum.

You could spend more time if you read every single thing, but I focused more on specific things that interested me. I did this along with the mutter museum. It’s about a mile walk between the two. Mutter takes about 1-1 1/2 hours. I finished up around 2 after starting at 10 AM.

We where not expecting it going in but it turned out the CANAAN & ANCIENT ISRAEL GALLERY exhibit turned out to be our favorite. There focused galleries are:
Canaan
Isreal
Etruscan Italy
Greece
Rome
Arian
Egypt
Native American
Middle East
Sphinx

So if you are interested in ancient cultures this is a place for you, Ensure you check website for visiting detail before you go. At the time we went there was construction work in the surrounding streets so the main entrance was closed so the Spruce Street entrance was a good choice. The museum is an easy trolley or bus ride from the city center.

We spend about 4-5 hours at the museum and only saw about half the exhibits. So there is lots to see for sure.
