About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- A2584QHvickym0 contributionsTerrible experience with a company that could care lessRip off!! Do not, I repeat do not waste your money!! Spent $176 for this tour. The weather was awful and when you request to have your tickets moved to another day or a refund you are denied. Went on the tour every single stop we were supposed to go to was closed down due to the weather. We barely saw any lights. Also the tour guide left us at the first stop in the pouring rain in freezing cold weather. We paid for an uber to try and find the trolley to get our stuff off of it. I spent more on the Uber than the company was willing to refund. There were 32 passengers on this tour and every single one tried to talk to management about how definite was and how it was nothing that was promised when booking. They offered me 15% refund.. a whole $26 when I spend $176! Terrible company. We saw 1 attraction a little side street of lights. We spent hours driving around the same circles and doing nothing.Written December 12, 2024
- momonan0 contributionsBeautiful lights, warm vibes, totally satisfied. We had a great time on a bitter cold evening (nice heat in the trolley, though). Lovely vibe, on-time departure, three stops, with time to walk around and see the wonderful community lights. A totally enjoyable experience.Written December 8, 2024
- Y1969KXvaleries0 contributionsWorst experienceThe worst experience, save your money. Our guide didn’t sing and didn’t know anything about the area. We only had one stop of actual lights.Written December 1, 2024
- Eveline B0 contributionsA very poorly delivered experience. The pieces of information were poorly delivered. The noise of the bus was completely covering the voice. Also what the tour guide told us were general info that anyone can learn from GoogleWritten November 30, 2024
- mr9050 contributionsRecommendGreat trip, everyone was friendly and informative. Dress warmly if you plan on riding up top which I recommend for the best views. Would be a great first activity in Philly to get a perspective of where everything is. Only downside was it was hard to figure out when the next bus was arriving, but I got lucky and didn't have to wait too long.Written November 14, 2024
- Z3060YEpault0 contributionsOnly Half The Route OpenThe staff are excellent and so would the full tour, We went when it was Veterans Day and half the route was closed which was really disappointing. They sent a note saying it was closed for the day, then a note saying it was open. Had I known I would miss out on half stops I wouldn’t have gone and requested a refund. If there’s no route closure, I would recommend it.Written November 11, 2024
- MonMke0 contributionsGood experienceThe inside of the bus was completely full. Since it was a chilly October day, it was not ideal for my parents to sit on the upper, open-air level (mom is disabled and dad failed to bring a jacket or hat). My 5 year old and I were prepared and enjoyed ourselves. The tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to hop on and off due to a flight later that afternoon. For that reason, it seemed a bit pricey for just a 1.5 hour tour. However, had our day been free we would have hopped off at the farmer’s market on one of the stops and really taken our time to tour the city. Side note: I was surprised at how low one of the street cable wires was at one point. I thought I was gonna be strangled! Overall, it was interesting to learn so much history about Philadelphia. It was worth it.Written October 31, 2024
- CathieS6270 contributionsSave your money and time and skip this oneHonestly, the worst hop on hop off tour I’ve ever been on. The guide, Joe, tried to be funny, but he wasn’t. His jokes were off and did not enhance the tour at all. Really did not learn one thing on this tour about the city of Philadelphia. The bus went full speed the entire route. He basically pointed at things we already passed by and didn’t have a chance to see. There was no slowing down at any of the sites and the only stops were at red lights or the two or three places where people wanted to get on/off. The worst part was the speeding through streets with low hanging branches and wires. It’s a wonder no one was injured. There was a whole group of people who didn’t speak English. A woman let him know at the beginning and he basically let her know their translation system was not good. Never saw them hand out earplugs, etc. He complained constantly about the poor quality of the microphone and repeatedly said the company didn’t care because he was not issued a company jacket. Extremely unprofessional and unpleasant to experience.Written October 21, 2024
- SFPallate0 contributionsGreat Value and Experience!Great Value, Great scenery! Nice day at Philli! Saw the Rocky Statue and ran the steps. Even though we did not get off every stop, we saw a lot of places that we would have otherwise not have seen. It is a great joyriding experience on the top floor of the double-decker bus. Our family included two kids ages 10 and 11 grandparents,my husband and myself. It was our first trip to Philly together and the hop on hop off bus made it so much easier.Written October 21, 2024
- ncras0 contributionsWould not go againWe did this tour 3 years ago and decided to do it again with our brother and sister. I was the one who wanted them to see it because we loved it so much. There were 2 big changes from the first time. History of the city was rarely mentioned and we learned about every single movie that was every filmed there. Really? The tour 3 years ago was amazing. This one not so much. Plus the microphone had a short and it started right away but the guide said "he hoped they would get it fixed when we got back" so we missed a lot of what he was saying. All in all, I would not recommend this tour based on this recent tour. Very disappointing.Written October 11, 2024
- DianeRug0 contributionsExcellent Tour Guide on our visit to PhillyThe tour guide, Cayanna (?), was excellent! We do HOHO tours frequently as we travel around the country and to foreign countries as a way to acquaint ourselves with new cities - the success of HOHO is totally dependent on the guide. We mostly get good guides, occasionally we get one so bad that the tour is a total flop. However, the tour and the guide in Philly were wonderful. Lots of interesting stops and neighborhoods to see (26 available stops!) and the guide had something interesting to say about each one, as she often told a joke or an ‘insider tip’. Kudos to Cayanna.Written October 4, 2024
- barryhT7699GD0 contributionsGreat GuideJoe, our guide, provided just the right mix of facts, pseudo facts, and myth with humor and wit. He answered my questions in a concise yet thorough manner. You didn't try to BS when he didn't know the answer.Written October 2, 2024
- chefAussie0 contributionsGreat orientation to PhiladelphiaWe purchased the two day package as we planned to orientate ourselves on the initial trip and then return to those spots we wished to see in more depth. It was a considerable walk from our hotel to the first place we could pick up the bus and we waited for quite a long time before the bus came. We managed to cover some of the must see sights on the first day but found that the buses had long time gaps between them and meant we spent a lot of time waiting . We also were not informed that the two bus companies had amalgamated and that we could have travelled on either with the same ticket. The second day was not able to be used to the full due to a police funeral which caused significant street closures in the areas we wished to visit. This was not the fault of the company but it did mean that we really wasted the second day of our ticket and were only able to use the bus for one stop. We have used these tourist buses in many other cities and felt that this one was not quite as good as others due to the considerable wait times for the next bus. The guides on the buses we did access, were very personable and quite entertaining.Written September 29, 2024

Great value for money and Ernest (the tour guide) was amazing!! He has so much knowledge and enthusiasm for Philly! Very friendly and helpful with lots of hints and tips to make the most of your stay.
The bus took you around and stopped at all the main areas of interest. I think if you did the whole circuit it would take about 90minutes.
They were quite busy but we managed to get onboard each time. Currently the 2 main bus companies are joining together so that you can board either companies due to Covid regardless of who you have booked your ticket with. Very helpful!! The buses were roughly every 20/25 minutes.
We never got caught in traffic and the bus slowed down to allow you to take photos of landmarks. I would absolutely recommend this and think it is good value for money.

The guides were interesting and knowledgeable of the area. I enjoyed that part of the tour. I only gave three stars because there were only two busses running so anytime my husband and I hopped off the bus we spent more time waiting for the next one to arrive than we did enjoying the sites we had hopped off for. Also they make you get off the bus when it gets back to the beginning and than wait ten or fifteen minutes for the next bus to arrive. I just felt like we spent a lot of time waiting for busses for the amount we paid.

What a wonderful day. As it was so hot and we weren’t all physically capable of doing lots of walking at different sites, we did 3 circuits. Two on the red bus and one on the big bus. They were all superb, similar but with differing snippets of info.
Bruce was exceptionally passionate, knowledgeable and provided lots of fantastic facts, it was fast paced and energetic throughout the 1.5 hours. He engaged the children well (teacher?) and worked with his audience. Thank you.
Claire was good, steady, clear information, some super interesting facts, lively aspects and was friendly. Thank you.
Kyle was very clear, lots of tidbits of information and had lots of energy, some different, fun information and was kind and helpful too. He has lots of knowledge and was passionate about his city and delivery. Thank you.

Several issues with this company:
1. Online ticket purchase was a waste, since you had to go to stop 1 to validate tickets before boarding. They did do a shuttle pickup when we called, after waiting 20+ minutes at one stop.
2. Frequency of buses on route was subpar. We got off at a stop to tour an attraction (stop 2) and had to walk back to stop 1 to get on a bus to complete the tour. We waited 45 minutes, called again and were told that the stop was not operating that day due to construction in the area.
3. We finally were placed on a tour bus from a competing company and that tour was nice.
This company is equipped to handle a nice open air riding tour to see the sites, but the hop on and hop off feature is not viable.

Ernest, our tour guide, was fantastic! He is from Philly and knows all sorts of fun trivia about movies that filmed in or based in the city. He had great recommendations for food and things to do for stops on and near the tour. We had a great time doing the entire tour route with him. It was a great first trip to Philly!

We are a French couple who are fans of Big Bus in each city we visit, which generally allows us to have a first historical overview before choosing the places we will visit on foot based on the audio comments heard during the round.
And this is our first time trying SightSeeingTours.
Huge disappointment: apart from the fact that the bus is dilapidated, the headphones do not work. And as we speak school English, we don't understand much of the comments of the young person on the microphone, who, although friendly, makes no effort for foreign tourists... Germans and Dutch sitting next to each other are in the same case that we...especially children.
This tour offers two lines: a red urban one which shows most of the city center, a blue "countryside" which goes around the surrounding parks. The bus change is at the "rocky Balboa" stop, and like everyone else, we get off to see this attraction and wait for the blue line... the bus will never pass, after 1h30 of waiting.
We therefore take the red line again, hoping that this bus will offer headphones for the comments in French, but no... this bus is even more dilapidated and the commentator on the microphone, who this time is not friendly, does not no more effort to speak.
In short, we paid for the most expensive bus ride in the world over the shortest distance, and learned nothing.
Never again SightSeeingTours.

When purchasing our tickets we were informed buses come every 30 minutes. After we had started our tour, we found out the buses were running over 45 minutes between buses, and the driver actually encouraged us not to get off st stops because of the long wait to get the next bus. Therefore, we didn't see everything we wanted to see as they were stopping the buses at 4pm. For the price we could have ubered or lyft to the sites we wanted to see quicker. And cheaper than the price of 2 tickets.

I've been on many Hop on, hop off busses around the world for the simple reason that they enable a tourist to see many of a city's highlights. In this regard, the tour in Philadelphia was good, however after buying our tickets, we waited for a bus for 45 minutes. It shoukd be 15 minutes or less.

The **City Sightseeing Philadelphia Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour** is an excellent way to experience the best of the city, especially if you're limited on time or looking for a great first-day activity. The tour provides a fantastic overview of Philadelphia’s major historical landmarks and neighborhoods, offering convenience and flexibility.
I loved how the bus route covered all the must-see sights, including the **Liberty Bell**, **Independence Hall**, and the **Philadelphia Museum of Art** with its famous Rocky Steps. There were stops near other iconic locations too, like **Penn’s Landing**, **Reading Terminal Market**, and **Elfreth’s Alley**, which made it easy to hop off and explore more deeply at your own pace.
The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing engaging stories about the city’s rich history and pointing out lesser-known facts about each landmark we passed. Their enthusiasm and insight made the tour not only informative but also enjoyable, keeping us entertained throughout the ride.
If it’s your first day in Philly or you only have one day to explore, this tour is ideal. It gives you a solid introduction to the city, and by the end, you’ll have a good sense of where you want to spend more time. The ability to hop on and off at your leisure makes it convenient to customize the tour to your interests. Highly recommended for any first-time visitor!

Overall, the tour was great! The sites and the stops gave me a good feel into the city of Philly and its culture.
We had three different announcers; two were amazing and I’m still trying to figure out why the third was hired. Everyone sitting around me was confused when she spoke because of her fumbles and stumbles. I heard a few people say they were going to request a refund.
I highly recommend this tour, but hope you end up with announcers who will make your trip memorable.
