What to expect
This tour begins right outside the Independence Visitor Center, located just steps from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. As you go, discover some of Philadelphia's most popular landmarks, including the Betsy Ross House and Elfreth’s Alley (the oldest residential street in the country). The tour also includes admission to Christ Church—which was founded in 1695, and which counted George Washington and Benjamin Franklin among its parishioners—and its adjacent Burial Ground. As you spot the gravestones belonging to various Founding Fathers, your guide (a trained historian or college professor) will also share stories about the city's history as well as the insalubrious characters that once haunted its streets. At the conclusion of the tour, stop for a beverage or sample of moonshine in the neighborhood.

We were visiting Philadelphia from MA and while planning the trip we were advised of the Grim Philly walking tours. We saw the serial killer one which is right up our alley, as my fiancée and I are interested in that topic. We met Ted at the designated time and place. For the next 2 1/2 hours Ted told us stories and walked us to designated spots and shared his knowledge of the topic material as well as the overall history of the people of Philadelphia and the city itself. It was obvious to us that Ted was very knowledgeable about the city and it’s history. This tour was so much fun and very entertaining. He was personable and encouraged questions. I would highly advise taking one of these tours and if possible request Ted. Be sure to dress appropriately because 2 1/2 hours can get cold in the winter time. Luckily, we were prepared and the cold did nothing to take away from our experience. Thank you Ted for the awesome tour and for sharing your knowledge with us. We would recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys real stories about serial killers. Ted is extremely knowledgeable in this field, and it shows!

Even though I missed the cut off time for the groupon and had to pay full price I still feel totally satisfied with this tour and feel like it was money well spent. The guide was very informed and had great stories, and was sensitive to how cold it was when our group was out. The moonshine bar at the end was a nice touch where I got to spend a little extra time with the guide and ask follow up questions. I hope this tour gets really popular and that the guide's podcast blows up because he certianly deserves recognition for how well spoken and entertaining he is!

A really great tour, but I enjoyed the Dark Philly tour just a little more.

Pros: Ted was funny, knowledgeable and informative. He is a history teacher who knows his stuff. The tour was very interesting and enjoyable overall.Great stories and tidbits about Philly history.

Cons: The tour is a bit too long to begin with, and the staff at Christ Church take over the tour at that cemetery. That guide was not as interesting and took up much of our time there by chatting with us instead of giving us any pertinent information. This resulted in the whole tour being extended by at least a half an hour. It also would have been nice to know in advance about an additional guide for tipping purposes.
Also, there was a particularly gabby girl in our group who must have forgotten she was not the tour guide. I do wish Ted had engaged her a little less so that she kept a bit more quiet.

One of the first reasons we picked this tour was because there wouldn’t be children on it. The second was because it had really good reviews on this site.
We were not let down by those reviews!
We had Joe for our tour, and he was filling in for the guy who has been the more recent guide. He asked that we didn’t hold it agains him since it had been awhile since he’d guided this tour… well, it must’ve been like riding a bike because he was GREAT!
I love guides who are engaging and entertaining, and he was on point on both accounts!
It was a decent amount of walking, but we stopped often to learn about something historical, or someone who was just bat s%!t crazy and killed people.
What’s a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon?!?
10/10 would recommend, but please remember what they say about no kids and that it could be distressing for some people. But if serial killers and wacky history interest you, then I’d check it out!!

This is an awesome tour. I’ve done 6 different tours in Philly since moving here in December and Ted is by far the best one. Knowledgeable, funny, engaging, and gives just a ton of interesting information. It’s basically like hanging out with a really cool guy for 2-1/2 hours that tells you a bunch of fascinating stories. This is the second time I did this one. My brother came in town for the weekend and we only had time to do one tour so I just went with the best one. I loved it just as much the second time.

Ted was an enthralling and incredibly humorous tour guide providing a truly uncensored experience of serial killers combined with the true history of Philadelphia. I will never look at Betsy Ross the same way and will surely be joining one of his tours again in the future. I cannot recommend this tour enough! GTS.

Ted was easily the best tour guide I've had. He made this tour extremely fun and welcoming. He shows how much he cares about the history and brings excitement into the dark history. Ted treats this as more than a job but a lively experience for us all. I will most definitely request him for further tours and recommend him to others!

In early min May 2021 my girlfriend and I took the cemetery and serial killers walking tour and Ted was our guide (he was also very respectful of mask wearing). It was fantastic. Ted was fantastic. Ted really knew what he was talking about, from the serial killers to the early history of Philadelphia and the historical significance of event. Ted's storytelling was great really made the whole experience to life. I highly recommend taking this tour with Ted and others with Grimm Philly. I certainly will be taking their other tours.

This is a must for those who appreciate dark and spooky tales! The guide takes you around the city to tell you different tales about Philly serial killers and you get to tour the cemetery where Benjamin Franklin is buried. We loved how knowledgable and funny our guide was as well as how small our group was. Highly recommend!

Had a 1 night stay in Philly and was lucky enough to catch this tour. The Guide Joe was incredibly knowledgeable about the city, the ghosts and the weird dark history. It was a lot of fun!! I would leave the kids at home b/c some of this is really dirty - I loved it. LOL
