      Forgotten history
I left Philly 20+ year ago (via military service) and had forgotten all the rich history of this city. The tour guides were wonderful and full of knowledge. I would do this tour again. It's must for visitors.

      Lackluster Experience
This tour was very disorganized. It was definitely not 20 min intervals between buses. The live tracking didn't work. Trying to call the given number also didn't work. When we finally were able to get on, we were told we had to get off a few steps later because this bus didn't go any further. Then we were directed to get on the "red bus" (meaning City Sightseeing Tours" and were told by the guide "that they were both the same thing." That would have been helpful to know earlier.

      Not worth it
Pretty terrible. Top deck was full when we got on. Not much to see from the lower cab. Moved up when a few people got off. Of course, it started to rain. We boarded mid route with our online purchased tickets, but were told we had to get off at the Liberty Hall, and then ride the next bus. Of course, the next bus had no upper deck. The wait between busses was about 45 min, although we were told they departed every 20 min. Staff seemed clueless, except for the guide who was informative. You’d be better off, and spend less money if you buy a guide book and use Lyft to get around.

      Good for transportation only
First the positive..fyi we booked this tour bus company ..but they apparently have been merged with the other hop on/hop off red bus tour company (or it’s the same company? Not sure) but you can use any of the buses with the same ticket. Bus tour was fine for transportation purposes.. timing was good.. every 15-20 mins never had an issue getting on.. and it was a very busy Saturday in July. Now the bad part..The live tour guides were terrible.. rude personalities, very poor knowledge base .. so much incorrect information.. pointing out museums and buildings and being corrected by other guests.. just overall really bad! So don’t count on any real history or information being provided. One in particular said she wasn’t allowed to mention sports because it was too controversial.. but continued to give her personal opinions and views on politics and other things she should have definitely kept to herself. Also many safety issues as the guides on the top level of the bus not communicating with the driver about guests on the steps or trying to exit! Have been on many hop on/hop off tours in other cities and have never seen these issues. We did tell “management” at stop 1… but didn’t feel it was taken seriously.

Very informative trip. Highly suggest morning vs afternoon as we sat on top and it was rather warm. Staff was quite knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. Definitely worth the fee.

Very busy even in early summer
We were visiting at the beginning of vacation season and already the buses were filled. Be prepared for a wait at popular stops such as Reading Terminal Market. Also, some of the buses do not have air conditioning on the lower level and you may be seated sideways not forward. The guides choose their own commentary so some are better than others. We had one good one and one that was not so good. Riding all the way around on the upper deck is the best way to go.

This was a lot of fun. We learned a lot about the city of Philadelphia. The tour guides were so informative. They made it a lot of fun.

      Great for Getting Around!
These buses are somewhat accessible if you don’t mind sitting where you can’t really see out the windows. There’s only one spot for wheelchair. You’ll need to transfer to a seat for any type of enjoyment. The best tour is if you can sit on the top level. Make sure you dress warm if it’s not summer! Sit on the inside and you’ll get great pictures!

      Hop "On" function doesn't work!
Guides were very knowledgable - but once you hop off the bus, GOOD LUCK getting back on! The time tables on the map are a joke! I had to call the company several times to ask how long the wait would be at several stops, and the answer was always 15-30 minutes. 30 minutes past when they were supposed to be there, and we'd already been waiting 15 minutes? Better to treat it as a bus tour, stay on for the whole ride, and then get yourself around Philadelphia separately. Uber is pretty cheap too.

      Don’t bother
I was actually very disappointed in this tour. I was expecting to learn more about the history of the area, instead the tour guides were very irreverent in their comments about Ben Franklin, and the area. If you want to see and learn more about the founding of our great country don’t bother with this tour.

      Big red bus/ Philli tour
Matt was an incredible tour guide! Knowledgeable, friendly and funny! Really helpful and made the trip worth while! We managed to end up on his bus twice and it was by far the best. The trip itself was great to see all the main sites, stop and explore.

      Beautiful city!!
We only had a day to visit Philadelphia , and this was the perfect choice to explore the city. I only speak for the drivers and the really nice girls that takes their time to explain the history of Philadelphia with fun. The rest of their staff always with bad attitude.

Philadelphia hop on, hop off bus tour
I had pre-booked this tour online. I was a solo traveller and made my way fo the start point by taxi. There were 2 large tour buses parked there, both with “hop on, hop off” advertising on the side, and there was a ticket stand , with two employees standing at it. They were busy chatting to each other and I stood there for several minutes, before interrupting them to #1 ask of I was in the right place and #2 to present my digital ticket. My ticket was scanned and they resumed their conversation, without any further instruction on which bus I was to get on. I waited again but, as it was the designated departure time, I had to interrupt them again to ask which bus I should be on. (I would like to add that I have mobility issues, and need some time to get around, so I was worried that I might miss the tour). The bus was open-top. I found the stairs reasonably easy to climb and the seating was good. The tour guide (I didn’t catch his name) spoke clearly and was audible. However, when pointing out places of interest he would say something like “coming up is —-“ but didn’t inform us of which side of the bus to look out to. Hence, some places were missed as they had been passed. On the day of the tour, some sights were inaccessible due to road closures because of events in the city. I understand that this had nothing to do with the tour company, but, as it was a 3-day ticket, it might have been an idea to inform us before the start, giving the opportunity to take the tour on another day. It was a pleasant tour, which gave an insight into the city’s sights and culture but I did feel that I had been let down somewhat.

The Trip advisor page says two hours. When you arrive they tell you 90 mins and the actual tour was 65 mins. Total bait and switch. Also, the pickup location in Downtown Philly is filled with the homeless, drug addicts, and shady characters at night. My daughter did not feel safe. Finally the open air double decker bus drives under about 100 trees with branches that can whack you in the face or cut you up real good. We actually got hit a few times. The tour guide yelled duck about a dozen times and I told my daughter to duck about another dozen. When you duck you miss the site because the bus is going by so quickly. Also, many of the sites are not lite at night and your view is blocked by tres and bushes. The only experience that was positive was the tour guide seems to be very educated on the sites. I do not recommend at night or this location for pickup, at least at night. I will be requesting a refund.

Hello Eric B, Thank you for your feedback on the Philly By Night tour. This tour is scheduled to be 90 minutes. I have revised the Trip Advisor listing accordingly, and I apologize for the oversight on our part. Thank you for pointing this out. I inquired internally about the length of the tour. It seems that there was police activity blocking the usual tour route this day. This required us to modify the normal route which resulted in a slightly shorter tour. This would also account for the increased occurrence of tree branches you encountered since this was not the typical route. I apologize for the inconvenience, but we were adapting to an unexpected situation the best we could. In terms of the conditions of the pickup location, these are largely beyond our control, unfortunately, as this is a public area in a large city. We do appreciate your positive comments about our tour guide, however. Given your difficulties during your tour, I can help you with a refund. I hope you will give us another chance in the future. Thanks, Philadelphia Trolley Works

What a great way to explore the city at night! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, funny and welcoming! We learned so much about the history of Philadelphia, as well as best places to eat and other places to visit. Philadelphia is a beautiful city with everything lit up at night! This is a must do for anyone! Take the tour! The prices are reasonable and you will be able to explore much more on the bus while letting your feet rest. A++++

We really enjoyed our evening bus tour. The bus narrator was very informative about the many historical sites in Philadelphia. The weather was perfect for riding outside in the upper deck of the bus. Bring a lite jacket in case it gets cooler. We stopped at the Rocky statue for about ten minutes to take pictures and then finished up the tour.

I have taken this tour before and was excited to go again. Was highly disappointed with the guide as well as the entire tour. Previous yours included more historical information. We did not pass the zoo or the liberty bell. We barely saw the top of Independence Hall from afar and listened to the guide complain that he was not suppose to be working and the traffic was putting him behind, I am assuming they reduced the locations we got to see so he could be off at 9:20 which he mentioned no less than 10 times during the tour.

Hello, We are sorry for the unsatisfactory tour experience. Based on your previous experience and the many other positive reviews this is not the level of quality that is typical of our tours. We would appreciate it if you would be willing to give us a call at 215-389-8687 or email us at info@phillytour.com to provide some more detail so that we can investigate this issue and ensure higher quality tours in the future. This was a nice way to start our trip & familiarize ourselves with the area. Because our driver was fast at times, our tour guide had to rush through some information, and we weren’t always sure which buildings she was talking about. There is only one stop on this tour, the Ricky Steps. If you want a tour where you can get off of the bus and photograph/explore other venues, do a hop on/ hop off during the day.

Our tour was excellent! Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke clearly. She did a wonderful job of helping us learn a bit about philly. The only issue we had was finding the bus. It was not where we were told it would be and we came close to missing it. That needs to be changed. The weather was perfect and the length of time for the tour was just right. Very glad we did it!!

I almost didn’t do this tour because I’m traveling alone with my 12 year old son. One of the reviews said the pick up was in an unsafe location. At the last minute I went ahead and booked. So glad I did! The pick up location is right across the street from Reading Market and right next to the downtown Marriot. Perfectly fine!!! They even had a shuttle bus come and pick me up from my downtown hotel and drive me there! It was fun, kept my 12 year old son interested, had a lot if Philly character, great eating recommendations and all around amazing night. Totally worth it! And I’m a cheapskate!!!

Came from London for a research event. We decided to change up our usual way of doing things and have a trip with these guys.

It was amazing. I don't want to mistake the names, and it was an amazing experience to finish the day on, but both Jay and Dave were great. Cracking jokes and having a laugh.

But this one was amazing! We took the night tour (departing at 8:00 p.m.) and loved every minute of it. Good history of the area, pointed out several sites we would have otherwise missed on our quick weekend.

Would definitely recommend taking the night tour especially if you only have a couple days to enjoy Philly.
