The rise and fall of the American mafia
Dec 2019 • Couples
Did this tour with the very knowledgeable Gary on Friday 13 December. It rained about 99% of the time, but it didn't dampen our enjoyment, nor Gary's enthusiasm. While one reviewer suggests taking the tour in a pub would suffice, I totally disagree - even in the rain! The stories of the Mafia are fascinating, Gary knows so much, he really does it great justice. Highly recommended.

Very interesting story... not so exciting for a visual walk
Jun 2019 • Couples
As intriguing as Gary was as a tour guide, we felt like half of the tour could have been done sitting in the restaurant over drinks and him showing us pictures instead of having us walk around and stand in front of a building for 20 minutes while he explained who lived there/owned it and we couldn't even go into 95% of the locations.
We felt that the pictures and slide presentation could have been more efficient, they were scattered instead of an orderly fashion and not labeled, which I feel could have been nice to see the names as well.
Is it worth doing? Sure... is it worth $40? Unfortunately, I have to say no.
Sadly, I don't have pictures to share because I don't feel that anything we were shown in the tour was picture "worthy".

Dreadful Tour
May 2019 • Family
Worst decision of our stay in New York. DO NOT BOOK. Previous ganster tours in other cities were lovely, informative, featured interesting sights and characterful tour guides. With this tour, however, our guide walked us to our first location and lectured us with a retired-history professor tone for 20-30 minutes (most of which was about things not relevant to that location at all and could have been told between locations). We were then led in silence to our next location where the pattern would continue. Time keeping was dreadful and we finished very late. Everyone we spoke to on the tour was hating it, not because the information was uninteresting but because it was made impossible to enjoy by a dull guide and a boring layout. With absolutely no running costs involved for the company the money paid to partake is not justified. Would absolutely never recommend unless you want to waste money in the triple figures ($125 for 3 adults) for an incredibly boring tour that you will regret within the first 15 minutes. Would ask for our money back if we could but are far too late now.

Dear ScottishMusician1 We are deeply sorry that this was your experience with our company. We try to only hire the most talented, engaging, knowledged and professional of guides, which the mass majority of our reviews can attest to. We take our quality control very seriously, and when we make the error of hiring a less-than-exceptional guide, that guide does not work for us for long. The guide who gave this tour no longer works for NYC Gangster Tours. If you ever want to see how the tour is SUPPOSED to be done, don’t hesitate to contact us, and tickets for you and up to three friends are on us. -Gideon "Da Boss" Levy

The Rise and Fall of the American Mafia Walking Tour

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Awful! To start the tour, the guide was 5-10 minutes late. I know more about the Mob than our tour guide did! ( He called Sammy “The Bull” Gravano, Sonny) He kept forgetting what/who he was talking about. Only the last 10-15 minutes was about the Mob of the 80’s-90’s. He showed us places that were boarded up that “used” to be restaurants/clubs/businesses that the Mob either owned or hung out at. I expected to see places we could actually go into or at least that were still there. There were people on the tour from Switzerland and Scotland. I felt bad for them because they were so disappointed. Find something else to do with your money and time. You will be disappointed! This was 2 1/2 hours of our lives that we won’t get back!

Wow
Mar 2019 • Family
This tour was part of a huge surprise taking my husband to New York for his 60th Birthday. Having not known about it until a few days before and then discovered his sons and girlfriends waiting for him at the airport I had to book lots of things that were of great interest to him. The Mafia was one of them and this did not let him down. Despite the freezing cold and very wet afternoon the tour was fun, informative and a different way to spend in New York. I think we were expecting to hear more of the well known Mafia particularly The GodFather and John Goti but it was more Little Italy based Mafia. Nevertheless we all enjoyed it - thanks to our guide who was amazing. Voice changes, expressions, the giggle and sound effects it did not let us down. Highly recommend.
