    The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Stop: 3 hours - Admission included
New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art attracts nearly as many visitors as other leading galleries like the Louvre or the British Museum. Its roughly 2 million works of art and artifacts cover everything from ancient Egypt to modern art. From the Great Hall, you’ll see the museum’s most important galleries. Pass through the Medieval Europe gallery on your way to the Studiolo from the Ducal Palace. Explore armory form the Middle Ages, including pieces worn by Henry VIII. The American wing hosts the staircase from the Chicago Stock Exchange as well as the famed portrait of Washington crossing the Delaware. A host of European painters including Vermeer, Picasso, and Van Gogh await you as you learn about their troubled yet exciting lives. All the while, your guide will explain how this iconic American museum differs from its older European counterparts, especially since it began before the United States was even 100 years old. Highlights generally include: (if artwork is not on loan or being restored) Henry VIII armor, Tiffany Autumn landscape, Chicago Stock Exchange Stairs, Madame X, Pop culture then and now, Hudson River School,  Washington Crossing the Delaware, Jan Vermeer, Madonna with Child, Picasso, Seurat, Van Gogh, and more.

The tour with our guide, Mark Venaglia, was a top highlight for us during our trip to NYC. It was a perfect blend of "Macro" (getting the big picture history along with all the big highlights the museum has to offer) and the "Micro" (little known details and secrets of the museum and the stories behind the art and artisans). It’s always tricky with a group tour, because like a “box of chocolates”, you never know what you’re going to get or which of the tour guests will want to prove the money they spent for their degree in Art History at the local community college was well worth it, by monopolizing the discussion and peppering the guide with questions, aimed more at getting validation as a pseudo art aficionado than actually learning something new. However, our guide, Mark, never took the bait. It would have been easy for him to allow the tensions created by the art history buff to show through. But instead, I was greatly impressed by his ability to maintain a positive vibe while managing this “Cliff Claven” of the art world. It was a master class in how to facilitate a group. Well done!!

The Metropolitan Museum in NYC is amazing and can be I overwhelming even for return visitors.

We signed up with Babylon and got an excellent tour guide named Katherine whose passion for the Met is contagious. She provided an incredible 2-1/2+ overview that gave us an inviting reminder of how much we enjoy both the breadth and depth of the Met. She also guided us to the areas where we had a special interest so we could follow up further on our own.

For a first time visitor a guided tour provides a much needed introduction and way to know where to spend more time before you run out of energy. We highly recommend.

Mark was our guide and he quickly perceived what was most interesting to us as well as introducing us to many ideas, artists and works of art we never would have explored on our own. He was a delightful guide and a passionate advocate of the met. He knows so much of New York and was able to connect us to its history and culture.
We loved our tour.

The Met is just breathtaking. And our tour guide Mark made our visit even more interesting, sharing many details and insights about the history of the museum, and contagiating his passion about art. He's one of the best guides I ever had. The Van Gogh collection is fabulous, same as the Renoirs, the Rubens, among many others.

Mark, our Guide is a man with knowledge, wit, charm and care for his group. He answered our questions, then gave a bit more to stimulate our curiosity even further. He is an artist himself and it is clear he lives his passion and passes it on. Very worthwhile!

My husband and I have never been to the Met Museum of Art before and honestly now we never want to go without Mark. His passion, warmth and enthusiasm made the hours fly by. Our only complaint is that we could have spent all day exploring with him. He is an absolute gem and we will never forget this magical morning! If you're reading this do not hesitate - BOOK THIS TOUR!

Matt, our guide, was awesome! I had had some crummy tours in the past days before this one, and it was a breath of fresh air. Matt was so enthusiastic about the Met and NYC in general. Definitely recommend taking the tour, and then leaving plenty of time after to explore! I had to catch a train after this tour, and I was so sad that I had to leave.
