- 213ghazalehb0 contributionsTourThe tour was amazing for a multitude of reasons, but what made the tour so special was our tour guide Dave Turk. Not only was he very knowledgeable about the historic areas that we visited, but he was also hilarious, friendly and very personable. There was never a dull moment. I had the best pastries, pizza, and tacos. I went on this trip with my young daughter . We had a great experience. I would highly Recommend this tour.Written July 5, 2024

- MeghanM9430 contributionsVery satisfied repeat customers! This was the 3rd tour we have done with this company. Every time our guides have been very knowledgeable and the food has been incredible. On our most recent trip, our guide was Nicky. Nicky is a former 5th grade teacher and was wonderful with our 10 year old! We did the High Line Walking Tour followed by the Greenwich Village Food tour. He kept the tour interesting and engaging for the entire time! Additionally, I have reached out to Alex (who was our guide on our very first tour about 8 years ago) many times over the years for restaurant recommendations when we visit the city. He is always helpful! We highly recommend this tour!Written June 30, 2024
- OnAir589450636520 contributionsA fun way to eat and learn at the same time!Nicky provided not only delicious food stops, but the history to go along with the neighborhoods. Stops included exterior filming spots for popular shows and several “celebrities” former apartments. There was a little something to keep everyone interested, including my 10 year-old grandson. A fun way to eat and learn at the same time!Written June 22, 2024

- craig r0 contributionsWonderful Greenwich Village Walking/Food TourI have been traveling to NYC for over 40 years and I believe that I have done most everything visitors love to do in the city. This May I went with two of my daughters to go to a couple of shows on Broadway. One of my daughters recommended a walking/food tour of the lower West side. To my surprise it was fantastic. David Turk was our guide and he was interesting, informative and fun. We learned history and trivia about Manhattan and stopped and sampled food at 5 uniquely Manhattan eateries. As we walked through neighborhoods, we saw multiple points of interest while learning both historical and contemporary items about the city. The entire experience was one of my favorite things I have done in NYC. Thank you, David Turk, for a most enjoyable time with my daughters and two other visitors from England that were on the walk with us.Written June 3, 2024
- michaelgD6550VC0 contributionsMagnificent Greenwich Village Food tour - and more!!!We spent 4 stupendous hours with Nicky. First two were a High Line tour with myself and two buddies. Nicky was full of historical information: Pritzker winning architectural gems, NYC historical perspectives, present day management of the High Line, and some arcane stories that only a dedicated tour guide would know. We then joined a lovely couple and their grand child for the Greenwich Village Food tour. No disappointments! We were amazed at the history of the Village (e.g. why are there different size staircases on the town houses??) and were full with NYC pizza, British pasties, French pastries, and a cupcake finale!! Nicky is friendly, full of information, and welcomes questions!!! Highly recommended. You will NOT be disappointed.Written May 29, 2024
- Q8461OFrobinb0 contributionsGreat walking tour, great stories, and great food!An absolute must tour if you are visiting New York. Our host, Nicky, was so knowledgeable and relaxed on the tour and we learned much about the areas we visited while sampling delicious food (a highlight was visiting with the owner, Greg, of Bleeker Street Pizza who took the time to sit with us and tell us about the history and background of the restaurant. We highly recommend this tour!Written May 21, 2024

We lucked out and it was only my friend and I on the tour so we received a personal tour! Jake was amazing! Very knowledgeable and had a great personality! I would recommend this tour wholeheartedly, mostly because of Jake and his infinite knowledge of the city but also because of all of the out of the way places we visited and the food was incredible(some that I would have never tried on my own)! Thank you Jake for such a wonderful day!Written May 7, 2024
- G7645XLsamanthas0 contributionsAmazing food and history in GreenwichOur tour with Manhattan Food Tours was outstanding! The food was superb and there was a good variety between the dishes we tried. Our guide, Jake, was extremely kind, and very knowledgeable not only about the businesses we visited, but also about the history of Greenwich Village as well. You can tell how much passion he has for the city, and he was more than happy to show us cool nooks of The Village we probably wouldn’t have thought to look for. He was even kind enough to be our photographer for a few photos, and continually checked in with us throughout the tour to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. A very intimate, very delicious tour! We will definitely be booking with this company when we come back to New York.Written May 4, 2024

Signed up for this food tour on a short trip to NYC to see some Broadway shows. Claire did an excellent job guiding the group, providing historical detail about the area and accommodating dietary preferences. The food was varied and there was a lot of it! An excellent way to get a real sense of the ethnicity of the city.

This food tour went to 5 delicious and unique restaurants in Hell’s Kitchen. The food samples at every stop were well thought out and provided an eclectic overview of what Hell’s Kitchen has to offer. There were also generous portions served - don’t expect to eat dinner after this tour! The tour needs to be extended from 2 to 3 hours, as our group ran over and 2 hours just isn’t enough time to get in all the food stops this tour has to offer. Our guide not only pointed out some interesting landmarks in the area, but gave us an extensive overview of the Irish mafia’s history in Hell’s Kitchen. If I could change anything about this tour, I would recommend a more concise mafia story and more time spent on discussing the restaurants and food from both the tour guides prospective and the participants thoughts on what they were trying. Finally our tour guide did a great job giving recommendations for further exploration of places in NYC.

Jake was our friendly, charismatic, informative guide who led our tour in Hell's Kitchen. Jake gave just the right amount of personal touch and drama as he described the history of the area including some comical vignettes. Practically, he was timely, inclusive, and easy to understand. You won't require dinner as Jake made sure we walked away with full bellies from all of the delicious food we sampled from 5 different venues. Finally, Jake emailed us fun and helpful recommendations for further exploration around NYC. I highly recommend this tour.

Hell’s Kitchen food tour is an excellent way to learn about this area of New York City as well as have a great chance to sample various ethnic foods along the way. Our guide Tim was excellent as he not only gave us an entertaining lesson on the history of the neighborhood, but also told us about the history of each of the places we ate. In addition, he made sure to ask everyone about any food allergies or dietary concerns so he was able to make sure everyone had food samples that fit their needs.
The food was delicious and the servings were more than generous. I should also say that the walking was very manageable and at a comfortable pace. He also did a fine job of getting our group to feel comfortable with each other.
I was very pleased with this activity and I encourage anyone to give it a try.

The name of the tour is very misleading. This is NOT Gordan Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen Food Tour. The food stops are very random. You cook and eat steak at a Japanese restaurant, then stop at a cookie stop follow by bread and cheese dip. This trip is more about learning of the Irish Immigrant history in this part of town than the food. If you are looking to sample various foods from different cultures, this is not the trip you want. Again, I was mislead by the name, but the tour guide was knowledgeable. Our 2 hour walking hour tour ended up being 3 hours, which was too much.

The only bad part of this tour was we did it on the last day of our trip!! So many great spots I’d love to visit again. Always check to see if the guide or company uses actors…they make the best tour guides! Highly recommend!

A group of gals gathered for an amazing trip to NYC, planned and hosted by our dear friend Donna Horkey. Donna booked us a walking food tour in Hell's Kitchen and we were blown away! We had the most outstanding tour guide, Nicky Shapiro, you could ever hope to have, and we are still talking about him! He was so engaging, kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about NYC - such a delight! He explained the history of Hell's kitchen along the way which was wonderful as we experienced so many flavors in Hell's Kitchen!
Our first walking food tour spot was at: Gyu-Kaku where we cooked in front of us and had the premium sirloin, the toro beef, and garlic noodles and vegetables. We were hungry from our journeys from Florida and loved it all!
Our next stop was at a famous cookie bakery, Schmackary's, where we enjoyed huge cookies. A lovely dessert after the Gyu-Kaku!
Next we stopped at a Georgian restaurant where we experienced the making of Kachapuri (the classic cheese boat!) It was fascinating to watch them make it with cheese rising in the process! The taste was incredible!
We continued our journey to a meatball shop. We were served the classic meatball and sauce, followed by buffalo chicken balls, and caesar roasted cauliflower. So yummy! Not that we were still hungry, but loved tasting those amazing flavors!
And then onto our final stop, where we walked into the Kashkaval Garden! They served us a mezze plate with spreads like tzatziki and babaganoush, pita breads, beet and carrot salads, and hummus. We loved it!
Nicky was extremely helpful along the way and taught us so much about Hell's kitchen! That night we went to see the show Hell's Kitchen which brought everything Nicky shared to life! This was an outstanding walking food tour and I highly recommend you book it with Nicky. We all do! It was our first experience arriving in NYC and set the tone for a phenomenal trip. Thank you Nicky for being so incredible. We will book you again and share our incredible experience whenever we can!
With sincere gratitude and appreciation, Terry, Donna, Leslie, Ginger, and Jan

What a great introduction to Hell’s Kitchen! As someone who had never been to New York before, this tour provided an overview that gave wonderful insight to the rich history of this unique Manhattan neighbourhood. I really appreciated Tim’s laid back and creative approach. He made the tour interesting, informative, fun and on top of it all the food was heavenly! The portions were just the right size to sample the food yet still save enough room for the next venue. Tim also circled back after the tour and provided useful resources for future walking tours and restaurant options. It was a unique way to learn about the city where we didn’t have to worry about getting caught in traffic and figuring out where we should eat lunch!

Awesome food tour!! I loved learning about the history of Hell's Kitchen, as well as trying so many different foods. The tour guide, Alex, did a great job explaining how Hell's Kitchen came to be and was an excellent storyteller. Come hungry!! By the third stop, my partner and I were sharing portions because they were very generous. I loved how they included many different types of foods on the tour.

It is very nice to have a tour guide like Alex. He knew so much history and his storytelling was SO GOOD! The whole group was so in tune, it was like we were watching a PBS special (my husband mentioned this during the tour with Alex.. LOL). The food was yummy and we learned so much about the history of this great city.

How much walking is involved in this tour

Hey Deb! Not sure about the gluten free options. Our guide chose everything we ate so I imagine she could cater to your gluten-free needs or if you had any allergies if you ask ahead of time. Our guide was very nice and eager to make sure we enjoyed the tour. Worth asking for sure.
