New Bern is my 2nd favorite historic waterfront town behind St Augustine!
What a gem of a little town! It's like a mini Charleston, SC but WAY easier to get around! Stunning architecture everywhere you look and the historic homes are breathtaking! Visited the birthplace of Pepsi-cola (did you know the original formula had 1/2 gallon of booze in it???) Downtown was already all decorated for Christmas. Be sure to visit Mitchell's Hardware, in business since 1898, for a great selection of unique gifts. The riverfront park is an ideal location for an impromptu picnic! We're Going back Friday to tour Tryon Palace

A fantastic tour of Upper Manhattan
I am a big fan of NYC, and although I’d travelled there several times, I hadn’t spent much time in Upper Manhattan. When planning my most recent trip, I was excited to come across CityRover Walks and found that they could offer a private tour devotedly entirely to this area of Manhattan. My Upper Manhattan Tour with Greg was excellent. He clearly knows the city like the back of his hand, and it was so enjoyable seeing several sites with him over the course of 4.5 hours. Some of the highlights were Harlem (especially its impressive historic homes, including Hamilton Grange), Washington Heights (in which the Morris-Jumel Mansion sits), and Morningside Heights, where I had the opportunity to walk around the spectacular and storied grounds of Columbia University. Greg provided terrific commentary and answered all my questions, and I was grateful for having had the fortune of experiencing these neighbourhoods from his informed perspective. I would certainly book another tour with Greg and CityRover Walks.

    Washington Heights & Harlem tour
We were picked up by Greg at Columbus Circle and he took us through to Washington Heights. Here our tour started. Myself, my spouse and Greg. It was absolutely amazing. We walked through an unknown part of manhattan for visitors ( and probably locals too) and Greg showed us things and places we never knew. His intricate knowledge of history and social sciences was absolutely astounding. We concluded our tour in Harlem. This was so incredibly amazing. I never felt I was in a tour, it felt like an old friend taking us through Harlem and Washington heights - I did not feel like a tourist- this was important to me. He even changes his language to accommodate us by switching to the metric system so that we could understand I highly rate this tour- try to get Greg to take you.

    Best tour of the city
What an amazing tour! We walked all around Manhattan and saw many of the iconic sites. The Greg was a fantastic tour guide! WAY beyond our expectations. We learned so much about the history of the area—just fascinating! I will definitely book another walking tour on my next NYC visit. I highly recommend it.

Comments from MO, AZ, WI, and FL
Four retired women: one from MO; one from AZ; one from WI; and one from FL, all gathered in NY for a history/literature hike. The ten-mile tour was half planned and then Andrew joined us! He added great dimension to our outing because of his knowledge of the city (more importantly places to eat and shop). He worked well with suggestions and adapted when needed…professional, comfortable, and personable. We were glad he was with us as he added fun to our sightseeing adventure. We were following the trail set out for us in the book, Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney, complete with limericks, Negronis, and Oreo cookies.

    Dan know NYC
This is our fifth time using CityRover. We have also recommended it to countless friends. Dan did a wonderful job personalizing our tour taking us to both Central Park and then to the 9/11 memorial. He has a vast knowledge of the city with the ability to customize the tour to meet our needs. I would never use any other walking tour.

    Great Private Tour
Can't say enough - this was amazing. Our tour was with Dan. We were a family of 3 teenage girls and parent. Needless to say, we let him take the lead on customizing our tour based on our time in NY, walked at our own pace, and had a blast! Dan was knowledgeable and answered our questions. One of the highlights of our NY visit. Highly recommended!

    Excellent!
We have been to NYC multiple times, mostly around specific events, so we wanted to spend some time exploring other areas and the culture. Sonja was such a delight as we explored Brooklyn, DUMBO, & Brooklyn Heights! It was a melting hot day, and she was flexible for my teenage daughter and me. We even had time to explore the Financial District, too. This team was wonderful to work with during our stay in August, and we look forward to exploring again with them!

Private tour during pandemic perfect pastime
Andrew led my family on a customized walk in the lower east side and lower Manhattan—striking exactly the historical and cultural notes I’d requested for my four teenagers. He kept us entertained and moving all morning, and was even prepared to delve into the political ramifications of knish-eating by mayoral candidates. We found this tour to be anything but cookie-cutter, and a safe, entertaining and educational pandemic activity. Andrew led us to all sorts of interesting, tucked-away places I never knew were there. Recommended for everybody, even people who know NYC well!

New to NY this is a must
If you are looking for a phenomenal guide and are unfamiliar with where to go in NY, these guys are the best! We didn’t want a planned touristy type tour and Greg absolutely provided us with a knowledgeable tour site seeing at our pace and on our plan. He was energetic, courteous and truly made this a great trip. We were able to pick the places to go and he would ask our input on what we wanted to see and such. He also helped us navigate the subway, which for a first timer can be daunting. He also recommended places to go for dining. Andrew helped set us up with a great guide. We are going out again tomorrow.

    Absolutely Recommend CityRover Walks!
Max was fantastic! This was our first trip to New York so we scheduled a 6-hour tour with CityRover Walks and Max was our guide. He planned a packed full day for us based on what we wanted to see. We only had a few days and wanted to get the most out of our tour AND MAX DELIVERED!!! His knowledge of the city and history was awesome! We went everywhere and our walk was personalized to us! From start to finish it was fun! Had the best day! Thank you so much for an awesome experience!

The only way to see New York!
Max can only be described as amazing - his knowledge about New York combined with his adaptability for flexing the tour based on things he think you might like make him an incredible tour guide. We were only in NY for a short time so wanted to get the most from our time. Max showed us everything we wanted to see and some bits we didn’t even know we wanted to see. He provided us with tips for the rest of our stay and showed us some hidden little eateries which I’ve passed on to friends who have since visited. We visited during the height of summer with incredible temperatures and our comfort was Max’s main concern. He made the whole experience as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Highly recommended!

If you have any sense - book Max!
This was a truly amazing walking tour. Max and his company came highly recommended and I am going to do the same to everyone one I meet and know who is planning a trip to NYC. We had the best time with Max. He came and met us in the West Village and walked us around where we were staying, pointing out interesting buildings and taking us to his favourite spots. He then took us up to the high line, and then to buy ME and my wife a Birthday cookie (the best we had on the trip and has now ruined any other cookies for me) and then on over the Brooklyn Bridge, to Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights. He is exceptionally good at what he does; knowledgable, funny, relaxed and professional. We also took his tip(s) on Williamsburg and had a fantastic day! Thank you Max! New York is now my favourite city and I look forward to seeing you soon in the future. We will of course recommend you to all our friends!

Highly Recommended CityRover Walking Tour NYC
We scheduled a 5-hour custom walking tour for our family of 4 that included 2 young adults in college. Our tour guide, Max was fantastic. He was very friendly and had a wealth of knowledge about the city's history and architecture. He provided helpful information for riding the subway, places to eat, and additional sites to explore during our visit. We all agreed that the tour was excellent and will definitely contact Max for another tour when we return to NYC.

9 hour private tour Best money spent on the trip
We (my wife, myself and two teens) set up a 9 hour private tour with Max, and he was great to work with from the get-go. He was always quick to get back to us when we had questions as we were planning the tour. He was great with suggestions but always made it clear we were in charge of what we were going to do. He let us know he would do his best to get as much done as was possible from our list and he did not disappoint. Max is very knowledgeable about all things NYC, and Manhattan specifically. He was very good at sharing details and history about everything we saw, big and small. We also appreciated the tips he gave us such as where good local spots are to eat, what places to come back to and spend more time exploring, and what is the quickest way to get from here to there, as well as the little extras he added throughout the day. On top of really knowing his stuff, Max has a great sense of humor,is personable and really connected to each one of us. If taking a tour is on your list, do yourself a favor and contact Max now, you will NOT be disappointed!

Our guide, David, did a great job adapting the tour to what we’d seen before or wanted more info about. Loved the old pictures of areas like Tudor City and Bryant Park. Fun to hang out with!

We had an excellent introduction to Midtown via a walking tour. Andrew met us at the lobby of our hotel and gave my wife and me an excellent overview of the city. Andrew is a knowledgeable and friendly native New Yorker. We covered a lot of ground, and used the subway to get to lower Manhattan.

I highly recommend!

I came to NY for work and brought my mom and 14 year old son along so they can sightsee while I was busy during the day. Since I couldn’t be with them to help them navigate the city for the first day I reached out to Max to see if he could bring them around Manhattan for a few hours. I told him that they may want to stop by a few churches during the day, but mostly just wanted to get an introduction to the city. While I didn’t join them for the tour with Max, I sort of felt like I was with them because they simply could not stop talking about how much they learned from Max during their first day! Max taught them how to navigate the subway, explained the history of neighborhoods and buildings and even taught them about the value of “air space” in NYC! My mom couldn’t look at another building the rest of the trip without commenting about that building’s “air space”! Max was wonderful, I HIGHLY recommend reaching out to him on your next visit!

My husband and I booked a private tour with Max to walk through Midtown Manhattan. This was probably our 5th tour with City Rover Walks. We have been to NYC many times and walked by these buildings over and over, but never knew their history or examined the art work and sculptures closely. Max did a fabulous job, as usual. My husband said it was his favorite part of our week long trip. We highly recommend CityRoverWalks and will book again on our next visit. Thank you, Max, for your professionalism and expertise and for never disappointing us.

Max, the owner of City Rover, met our party of 3 at our hotel and customized our afternoon walking tour to suit our needs. On our first afternoon in NYC, we were able to see all of the Midtown Landmarks, a great introduction to the area where we stayed. Max was knowledgeable about each of the sites, relaxed and fun to talk with. Throughout the tour, he gave us advice to make our trip more enjoyable. He clearly loves his job and aims to please. As billed in his promotions, the tour is more like meeting a friend who gives you a tour than a commercial venture.
We had planned to visit the HighLine and have dinner at the Standard Grill that evening. Max ended our tour by taking us on the subway to the HighLine and tutoring us on how to use the subway to get from our hotel to get to Statue of Liberty and 911 sites. A perfect tour that was a springboard to a wonderful trip.

This was absolutely the best way for a non-New Yorker to get around the city. Andrew was punctual, informative, accommodating and friendly. I would 10/10 recommend booking a walking tour with them!

Unbelievable experience that we’ll never forget. Max was so knowledgeable, attentive, and adaptable (we were walking with a 6 year old son). We’ll be calling Max and City Rover for sure next time we’re in NYC, and would highly recommend to anyone.

It was great, we learned a lot and we truly enjoyed the tour with Ryan!
3 hours were just enough :)
We also entered a few iconic buildings such as Chrysler building, St. Regis and Astor hotels.
