We had decided to visit this attraction and turned up at the ticket office, not having pre-booked. There was little to no queue and we had time to read through the terms and conditions of the City Pass, which at $129 each was good value, if you did all the attractions on the pass. So we bought the pass there and booked the Top of the Rock as the first attraction and we got in immediately.

The history of the Rockefeller building is told in great details in a series of videos and exhibits and I would recommend you absorb these before you get in the elevator. There is a good bit of graphics going on in the elevator ceiling on the ride up, so remeber to look up.

At the top, there are a number of areas to look out from, both inside and outside and you can move freely between them, so you have a pretty all-round view of Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs (assuming it is a clear day, which this was).

So do take in the whole experience and it is worth looking at the complex of Rockefeller buildings as a whole, as their development and different uses over the years is fascinating.

This was my boyfriends favourite thing that we did in our week in New York. We loved the fact that you were right at the top of the building, and it was completely outside. This gave a different feel to us than looking through the glass at other observation decks.

We didn't queue at all to get up (went on a Friday Morning) and they took our tickets and we walked straight in. The 3 different floors you could visit didn't feel packed at all, and we spent a pleasant hour or so sitting and looking at the City. From one side you can view the Empire State Building and beyond, and from the other side you have a clear view of Central Park.

Whilst it might not be as high as the other observation decks, we thoroughly enjoyed that we were outside and right at the top.

My only niggle is that we had to queue for a while to get down. I don't know why there was such a queue to get down, but it went quite quickly.

I would definitely recommend visiting the top of the rock and felt it was well worth our money.

Our group of 44 was to visit Top of the Rock after seeing a Broadway show. Because of COVID, the Observation Deck now closes early making it difficult to enter after a show. I visited the attraction the evening prior to my group's visit and talked with Luis letting him know we would be coming the next evening and that we would be very close to closing time. The group had to run to make it to the door prior to the 9:25pm closing time, getting there at like 9:24 and 30 seconds. Luis, and another wonderful lady whose name I did not get, let us in the door and were so helpful. Thanks to them the group was able to visit the observation deck and experience the beauty of NYC at night.

The views are objectively fantastic. Alas, the entire experience is undone by utter chaos. Zero investment in the customer experience. The length of the lines, the lack of signage on where to go, the dearth of employees on hand, and the overcrowding is appalling. For the prizes charged, including a surcharge to visit at sunset, it is utterly ridiculous to spend the entirety of sunset standing in one line after another. This despite clear instructions on the tickets NOT to arrive prior to your scheduled ticket time. This organization managed to ruin my evening. And not just any evening mind you. I hired a professional photographer to take engagement photos. We missed sunset in its entirety because we were stuck in lines. They sell more tickets then they can possibly accommodate in a given hour. I will never return. Highly recommend that you take your business elsewhere,

Well, unfortunately although we paid for sunset tickets at a higher price we had to wait in a very unorganized queue outside until almost quarter to five (our tickets were for 16:05 and sunset was due at 16:25) . I will give credit to nova the poor staff member who was being mobbed as he walked the queue. He was being shouted at and I witnessed a very uncomfortable interaction with a Australian woman who all but demanded to go to the front of the queue. It was as though she thought him either personally responsible for the situation or that he had the power to turn back time.
There was no signage or queue markets so there was a lot of confusion for people who have tickets and those with city passes etc. Eventually a female manager in a red jacket came out and called for all tickets for 1600-1630 holders and we showed her husband w long we'd been waiting and she was able to help us and the others who'd arrived when we had straight into the experience. They have a option to have your photo taken 'on the beam' which we scooted past and then a very quick lift to the top! Just in time to see the sunset. There is a tiny giftshop at the top and the views are stunning with plenty of options for you to get a photo of the city.

Nice views and fast elevator. That's all I can say.

I would say the most over-hypped and over-priced thing to do in Manhattan is probably 'Top of the Rock' - I thought there would be a cafe or a restaurant or something besides photographers trying to sell me $30 pictures up there.

Nice views of the city, yes, but not worth the $40 per adult price tag. Somewhere else has to have just as good a view and more cachet than listening to security guards yell 'Get Down' at kids and saying no thank you to staff photographers (who are also using a phone, btw).

An add I saw somewhere said "NYC's highest rooftop bar" so I booked a sunset time for two ($110). There was no bar, so there really was no reason to stick around for 90 minutes. The sunset from our hotel (The Millenium) with the WTC in the foreground was better. It is a nice outdoor view. but if you were already at the Empire or WTC, its not really worth the price. It's a good back up plan to those though.

As you would expect the views when you get to the deck are amazing.

However – the organisation to get into the building is a total shambles

For this top NYC attraction, you need to queue in the street, on a narrow pavement (in the cold, lucky no rain) to get in. Its total chaos, no real guidance how to get in, 3 different long queues going on with one poor employee trying to sort it all out. No signs to help customer to know what to do, wait times etc

At $40 plus tax to get in surely, they can employee more people to help their confused customers to understand the procedures on how to enter the building. Better still let people into the building and have a wait section inside in a warm area. Just could not believe how poorly this was run.

Once you lucky enough to get in the building it does get better organized. Staff friendly. As I said the views are great, make sure you go ion a clear day.

It’s always very busy, $40 plus tax is a lot for the service provided

Paid extra to go at sunset, waited 40 minutes past our allotted time just go up to the observation deck. At the top it was way too crowded, having to wait 10-15 minutes to get a picture, and it was impossible to get a picture on the 3rd floor deck due to the amount of people. After we were done, we had to wait 30 minutes just to go back down the elevator.

Avoid this place as it’s way too overpriced and they overfill the venue to get the most money rather than limiting the number people to improve the customer experience.

We also went to summit one Vanderbilt which had better views, better things to do, and less people. Don’t waste your money on top of the rock.

Brilliant experience.
Staff inside were helpful and we turned up and purchased tickets at the kiosk and we had no wait and we entered straight away and in a few seconds the elevator arrives at the top.
There is a photo opportunity when you arrive and the package was not too bad in price. We paid $40 for 2 prints one in a frame and digital copies.

There are 3 open air levels with some amazing views and telescopes to view at 50c.
The security man on the top floor was very knowledgeable and friendly.
We got some great photos and we had a really sunny clear day too so the views were amazing.
There is a small gift shop too on the viewing decks and a larger one at the exit.
