Amazing tour of Ellis and Liberty Island
We had the most amazing day with Joseph as our guide! He was funny, informative, and welcoming. We learnt such a lot. We loved how friendly he was but also the tips he gave us for getting around quickly. Super helpful. We’d definitely use him as our guide again, Thankyou!

Great tour and great tour guide!
Worth the price to see both spots and get more info than doing it on your own. Daniel made the experience fun and engaging. We had a good amount of time at each spot.

Matt The Tour Guide Is Fantastic!! 100% Recommend!
Absolutely recommend this tour with City Tales! It’s easy to book, the meeting point is easy to locate, the guide we had was fantastic. The whole trip itself was brilliant - Matt (our tour guide) was so informative. He was passionate for history and delivered the tour in such a captivating way! Everyone was engaged in it. He was honestly so good and I believe the tour guide makes the tour worthy. If we hadn’t have had Matt, we wouldn’t have enjoyed it half as much. The ferries can get pretty full, but you’re reassured by the tour guide that they’re there if you need anything at all. You are really well looked after! We thoroughly enjoyed this thanks to Matt and we would 100% recommend. Matt even took photos of us all in the group from perfect angles! We didn’t feel rushed and it was all so timely. Timely, yet everything was covered and all questions were answered. Nothing was too much for Matt… even in the scorching heat!! Thank you!

    Ellis Island is the best
You must book your tickets in advance, especially if you want to walk to the crown. Must be made about 3 months prior and the crown and pedestal are the same price. The wait for the elevator to the pedestal is long so take the stairs…they are not bad. If you are going to the crown, the stairs are very skinny, super steep and spiral. Think about time of year you go because on a hot day it will be sweaty and gross in the climb. Check out the museum with the original flame. Ellis island was my favorite! Very interesting so be sure you think about booking earlier in day so you don’t bump up against the last boats back (about 6 pm). Look up your family name! The line to the ferry to go back to NY can be long but moves fast. Lastly be sure you are always taking the appropriate ferry - NY vs NJ

    Great time.
We enjoyed the ferry ride to both islands. You get great views of the city. We had pedistal tickets for the statue. The info in the pedistal about the statue was great. We spent a little over an hour on liberty island. We then continued to Ellis island. This part was great. my two kids aged (11 and 9) really enjoyed reading and learning about what it was like to come to America. We could have stayed the whole day. Unfortunatelly, we had other plans that we had to get to. We stayed on Ellis Island for about 2 hours. We highly recommend exploring both islands.

Worth it But Explore Guided Options
It was excellent but looking at other reviews, if there is a guided option I would do that. I enjoyed it but my family was less enthused. There is a lot of history for both, the audio tour for the statue was good, less so for Ellis but I still quite enjoyed it. My only knock was getting back from Ellis, we had to wait for the third boat, they come about every 25 minutes. It was the end of the day and there were very few people from the statue tour that were exiting for the Ellis tour so not many people we allowed to board. It was hot and you are jammed in like cattle waiting. They should really have a dedicated boat only for Ellis later in the day.

    Intelligent and engaging guide
Our guide, Daniel (Danyl) was wonderful. Very friendly and informative. He kept our interest and made sure everyone was together. He used his knowledge and sense of humor to keep our teens engaged and answered questions from my inquisitive husband. He made our visit memorable.

Too much information. More free time needed
Too much time spent by the guide. Had to listen a full 30 minutes on each island before we could get a look around. Ferries that take you around are also overcrowded. More ferries should be booked or numbers limited.

Our guide, Sara, is the key to our 5 star Statue of Liberty - Ellis Island tour experience. It was Sara's enthusiasm, knowledge, and love of her native city that combined for a unique view of the history behind both historial landmarks!

    Recommendations from a Frequent Visitor
On my third trip this was the first time I had a guided tour. My best advice: The fewer things you have, the quicker you will get through security. The line is almost like going through the TSA at an airport. If you're ahead of others, you'll have the best chance of getting a seat on the top deck (but you probably won't want to sit because people will stand in front of you at the rails for photos and videos). So, sit on the right edge of the right side of the bench; that will make it easier for you to rise quickly and take photos/videos without weaving through a crowd. The Statue of Liberty will be on the right side when you leave the pier in New York. Our guide (Mike) was pretty awesome.

My 14 year-old daughter and I took a tour with Debbie Mason, and she was absolutely phenomenal. Such incredible knowledge about the history of NYC, especially the events of 9/11. And she was extremely generous with sharing personal, and painful stories about the 9/11 tragedy. This, combined with her sense of humor, made for a really valuable, memorable, and informative tour. My daughter and I both learned so much in the two short hours, and could have followed Debbie around the city all day with her knowledge, heart, and humor.

This was a tour given by Marc Landrum. He had us feel like we were all New Yorkers who had lived through that awful day. The impact on the rescue workers, especially the fire department personnel, was devastating. He really made us feel as though we were walking on sacred ground when we were viewing the memorial reflecting pool and the trees. He also told us of the resilience of New Yorkers and the tribute that they created for those that perished. Great tour!

Jim was a GREAT guide! He shared such wonderful perspectives, as well as personal experience about this terrible tragedy. The tour and Jim’s commentary also reinforced the resilience and resolve of New Yorkers to rebuild and create a moving memorial site to honor the victims.

Jim also provided some very interesting history of New York’s founding, along with humor at the appropriate times.

I would definitely recommend this tour!

My only suggestion is that you bring cash to tip. Jim doesn’t do Venmo and I didn’t have any cash to provide him a tip to thank him with a liitle financial gratitude.

Jim! Many thanks to GetYourGuide for hitting every mark on an experience like no other. If you want facts, figures, and historical context delivered by New York's #1 Guide service, book this tour. Yes, our tour guide was that good. Our experience was on-time to the minute (military precision without the drill sergeant) delivered by a personal, passionate, caring group leader. This most valuable use of time connects sights with engaging stories to better understand all that is around is in and near the 9/11 Memorial. Thank you GetYourGuide for easing the process to book and enjoy an epic New York experience; you did not disappoint. Jim - our family is grateful for your good nature, humility, and attempts at humor (wait, you really are funny). Simply stated, you're the best! Many sincere thanks, Jersey travelers with family first-timers in tow.

While our guide was knowledgeable, it was very difficult to hear him. Need headsets. And he had a notebook full of photos, that were difficult to view as he panned the group . It was an outdoor tour, and some in our group were not dressed warm enough ( it was a 50 degree day) so the tour guide followed their lead, and most of tour was indoors. We spent most of our time inside at Brookfield Place and the Oculus, and the guide pointed out the highlights from a window. Not my favorite tour.

Absolutely superb. Not only for me with all the stories, anecdotes and history for the US but also incredibly engaging for two teenage/adult boys who are not easily engaged over 2 hours of listening but hung in Jim’s every word. Completely entertained and enlightened. Really impactful tour on so many levels. Would highly recommend.

We had Marc, a knowledgeable New Yorker from Brooklyn. We met up with him at the steps to Saint Paul’s Chapel… we went to different sights where he explained to us what happened in the area… I would recommend people do this tour prior to entering the memorial. It helps to understand what happened on that terrible day.

It was a 4 hour tour but it was definitely worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and he covered every possible aspect of the occurrences of 9/11. It was a long talk and I think some seating should have been available for the less mobile people. However, we proceeded on to the Museum which was outstanding. We spent about 2 and a half hours there but only saw a fraction of it. Congratulations to the organisers who have done a wonderful job with the museum. We had a memorable day, and the sun really shone upon us, with a clear blue clarity and the blessed warmth of 26 degrees!

The tour guide!

We have 38 entry stamps in our passports, and nearly always used local guides for some or all of the trip. Our NYC guide, Debbie Mason, was one of the best we have ever encountered. She was more than knowledgeable, she spoke from the heart...which is understandable given that she had a direct loss on from that tragedy. She's also a terrific photographer (I dabble in photography so I can appreciate a pro).

I am a born and bred New Yorker and watched the Towers go up, and visited the buildings a few times when I worked in the Wall Street area. I also watched the Towers come down, so this trip (from California) was incredibly meaningful. The memorial is a touchstone everyone should visit, and I hope they have a guide like Debbie.

Amazing tour guide, mat he was a wealth of knowledge with a true sense of passion. Good sense of humour. He managed to find an alternative route due to the rain which still enabled us to see all the sites
