    Amazing experience.
This is an amazing experience!!! Since the beginning, a kind lady welcomes you and makes you feel at home. The choir’s voices are astonishing. As the concert begins, the singers connect immediately with their audience, inviting us to clap and sing. Definitely, a must when visiting NY!!!

Fun Jazz Night with engaged musicians
The talented jazz band on 21.06 played a great program, and all the musicians were obviously full of enthusiasm and in their element. I liked the music and the atmosphere of the concert, and the organizers were super nice. Unfortunately, the guests were mainly tourists, and it lacked a bit of the "Harlem vibe" that you might get in local bars or similar.

The low point of our trip to NYC
Thanks, Ruth! We appreciate your feedback! "The tour was nothing as described. The guide, though lovely, was not knowledgeable about architecture, history or politics. We went to a jazz club and were the only patrons. I was asked to pay a cover charge of $10 in addition to the drinks. The guide ordered food and then informed us we were going to a restaurant, again, not included. I paid over $60a ticket for the tour, then $68 at the jazz club. We left the tour after waiting 15 minutes for our guide. I learned only about a statue on w. 122nd street, the creator of which the guide did not know!!! I would be pleased to be refunded and will certainly not recommend this tour to anyone. It was a scam, a ripoff, and VERY disappointing."

Great walking tour about the history of Harlem, and fine jazz as well!
My wife and I attended this tour on the evening of June 13, 2024. Doris was our guide - a fantastic educator about the history of Harlem and a fascinating person in her own right. Learned so much about the history of this area during our 3.5 hours there. Attended two jazz clubs. - Patrick’s Place and the Victoria/Marriott (adjacent to the Apollo) - for some excellent music and food. Would certainly recommend this tour to anyone!

An Enlightening and Memorable Harlem Tour!
We had a wonderful tour of Harlem that exceeded all our expectations. Our guide was incredibly well-traveled and knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories and rich history about the area. Walking through the streets of Harlem while exchanging experiences made the tour even more enjoyable and educational. One of the highlights was when our guide took the extra effort to bring us to a delightful Ethiopian restaurant, where we savored a delicious lunch. This unique culinary experience added an extra layer of enjoyment to our tour. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone curious to learn more about the history and culture of Harlem. It was an enlightening and memorable experience that we will cherish for a long time.

Tour was advertised as being “immersive” but was anything but. Not as described. Avoid.
Our guide was friendly, but had little to no knowledge of the area that we were visiting. The tour description promised a deeper insight into Harlem,NY, but we got nothing of the sort. In fact, the guide spent the majority of her time looking information up on her mobile…Why were we paying $$ for someone supposedly well versed in the locations, information and history of Harlem who clearly did not have this knowledge. Instead it basically was what WE could have looked up on our own. We were quite literally watching the guide on her phone looking everything up! Here are some snippets from the tour description. This tour was described as being “a captivating journey through the heart of Harlem's cultural heritage, led by a local guide”. The description went on to say “Step into the world of literary giant Langston Hughes at his historic home, gaining insight into his profound impact on American literature.” (I don’t think the guide had ever even heard of Langston Hughes) And: “Explore the cultural reservoirs of the Schomburg Center and the National Jazz Museum” (we did not make it to either of these places) Finally the description says: “This guided tour promises an immersive and enlightening experience, offering a deeper understanding of Harlem's rich tapestry of culture and heritage” No, nothing immersive or enlightening about this. I can’t stress enough that the guide was looking everything up real time. Literally, this was ridiculous. Tour guide was friendly enough, but that is definitely not enough to make up for the misleading advertising. This company’s guides seem to work primarily in Europe so perhaps that explains the lack of expertise, but this doesn’t make up for my paying (x2 people) for this. Get Your Guide should do a better job vetting new vendors. Also, when I shared this experience with get your guide, they refunded me 25% of the total. This was shocking to me that they would not stand behind the customer when the experience was clearly not as described. So the bottom line is: We didn’t get what was advertised and then the company did not provide a refund. Harlem is a beautiful place. I wish we had gotten more of what was promised.

Thanks Doris for a very enjoyable and educational tour. We will be back to dine at Red Rooster, Sylvia’s and to see the renovated Apollo.

    I wouldn’t rush back
I wouldn’t rush back. Very touristic. Not authentic. The whole thing is a show rather than a true gospel preaching (if you know what I mean). Disappointing.

Excelent jazz concert with Tony Lewis
We went to the performance of Tony Lewis. We come from Chile and the concert was a wonderful experience. The 4 musicians were excelent , we enjoyed the show. We had never been in Harlem, where the Church and it's surroundings, is a very safe area, near two metro stations. Congratulations for Tony Lewis and the band!!

The tour mostly focused on architecture and politics of the time (read: Adam Clayton Powell). We talked a bit about nightlife, but only as it related to the building that the guide was pointing out (i.e. this building used to be a club, it’s since turned into xyz). I wanted to learn more about artists like Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston from a Harlem native (which our guide was not).

My school, Fusion Academy, was very pleased with the tour! The student who joined the tour were very intrigued throughout the time there, and I believe they learned a lot. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and took time to address all the questions each of the students and faculty had.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Glad to hear that your school, Fusion Academy, had a great time on the Harlem Renaissance Tour with lunch. We are delighted to hear that both the students and faculty were captivated and fully engaged during their visit. Our tour guides take great pride in their extensive knowledge and are always enthusiastic about answering any questions. Took this tour with a large group of 7th grade students and several adult chaperones. We had a beautiful day in a culturally rich neighborhood, with a wonderfully knowledgeable woman as our guide. Carolyn was welcoming and naturally skilled in engaging/interacting with our kids. I would recommend highly to anyone, and particularly to educators/school groups. It was a memorable day of learning for all of us!

There were so many. Our guide,Doris, was extremely knowledgeable. She had wonderful information about almost every street in Harlem. Our lunch was a great experience as was a short trek thru an outdoor market and the Apollo Theater was high on the list. I highly recommend this tour when in NYC. I will definitely use Harlem Renaissance for another tour when I return.

I enjoyed my walking tour of Harlem with my WONDERFUL guide. I had many questions, and she had all the answers. This was no college student working a summer job. This lovely lady was born in the neighborhood and knew ALL about the neighborhood from her many decades there. In spite of wind and rain we made our way through many historical sites and sights. AND UNLIKE SOME TOUR OPERATORS, this company didn’t cancel my tour because I was the only person who signed up for the tour.
A wonderful and memorable experience.

My daughter and I made reservations for the Mount Morris Park tour. It was a Monday and we were the only ones on the tour. Sheryl, our guide, gave us the option of doing the Renaissance Tour which included some indoor venues. It rained fairly steadily the entire walk, but we each had an umbrella, so it was fine. Unfortunately the bookstore is closed on Mondays so we missed that, but overall, it was a great introduction to the heart of Harlem. Sheryl is very personable and knowledgeable.

Doris was a walking encyclopedia plus a Harlem native which was a major bonus, she knew everything about what had been where, when and who. She was so personable and articulate. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed her. The meal was great, my fav was the collard greens. And we also had a Mo’s hot dog with the works. Delicious! (It was on my list, Mo is featured in a Netflix documentary NYC Street Food.)
