Overview
The Original Sea Cave Kayak Tour (90 Minutes in Length) offers unforgettable guided tours through the La Jolla Ecological Reserve. Each tour is lead by experienced guide(s) who ensure participants safely navigate through three of the four ecological habitats, all while seeing different types of marine life that inhabit one of the highest concentrations of sea-life in all of California. Towards the southern end of the Ecological Reserve, La Jolla's Seven Sea Caves patiently await, allowing participants to witness their beauty. Weather permitting, participants can take in breathtaking views from inside Emerald Cave in California's only north-facing cave wall. (Tours may not always enter Emerald Cave, depending safety of the conditions.) Participants must be five years or older to participate in the tour.

Valid for up to two people to ride in a double kayak.
Highlights
  • Paddle a stable double kayak that's beginner friendly
  • See native plants and wildlife on the La Jolla coast
  • Enter one of La Jolla's most famous sea caves
  • Look down into a giant kelp forest
  • This is a fun, 2-person activity led by expert kayak guides
What to Expect
Make your way to La Jolla, arriving a little bit before your departure time to get suited up in the onsite changing rooms. Head to the La Jolla Shores boat launch for a safety briefing and paddling instruction, and then launch a double kayak with help from your guide. Take plenty of breaks on the way to La Jolla Caves, stopping to learn about the four distinct micro-habitats that you pass. In addition to large marine wildlife, there are a lot of fish and birds to see, as well as the summertime aggregation of leopard sharks, one of the largest gathering in the world. Don't worry, these harmless sharks have small mouths and don't bite. See La Jolla's seven sea caves, paddling into the Emerald Cave when conditions allow. Following your time at Emerald Cave, check out the nearby giant kelp forest, the ideal spot for watching marine wildlife. Afterward, head back to the starting point.

Cody and Tony were awesome on the kayak tour! We had a great time and our 14 year old had a blast. The girls in the shop were all super helpful and friendly as well, but I did not get their names. I definitely recommend...More

I would call and ask the company directly. Tides and conditions vary daily...I don't know that you will ever be 'guaranteed' to go into the caves. Even if you don't, it's a great kayak trip with lots of good info about the... More

Definitely not a good idea for the 8 month old. The 4-1/2 year old might be ok, but understand you are confined to the kayak and fairly far off shore. I would suggest another activity for kids this age.
