About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:

- johntvc150 contributionsAvoid Five Star Tours!!!My mother and I had purchased tickets for the Baja wine tour weeks in advance. She had flown in from San Francisco specifically to take this trip. 11 hours before departure they canceled on us. They said the driver was sick??? My mother extended her visit by a couple of days so we could attempt to take the wine tour another day. We bought 2 tickets, but noticed they only reserved one space on the bus for us. I promptly bought another ticket, but they said there was no more room on the trip. At this point I asked that they please refund my ticket because I wasn’t going to Mexico without my mother. They rudely informed me that there was no refunds and I was “Sh*t out of luck!” When I tried to get someone on the phone and tried to resolve this matter I was ghosted. No one ever returned my calls. The company was completely unsupportive and unprofessional. They had no sympathy for our situation. They kept our money. I went on no wine tour to Mexico and received no services. When I did finally get someone on the phone and asked to speak with a manager or the owner of the company they refused to give me any information. Please do yourself a favor and don’t use this company for any trip. This company is anything but a Five Star experience :(Written July 18, 2023
- crooxy0 contributionsFantastic day of wine tastings!Alfonso was our private tour guide, and he was INCREDIBLE! He picked us up at our hotel with some chilled champagne waiting for us. The original vineyards/tasting rooms we were going to were unavailable the day we had scheduled for, so Alfonso scouted out 3 new locales with incredible products!! We had lunch at Stone Brewing (one of my boyfriend's favorites!), we had a flight of their beer with lunch. Alfonso bought us a souvenir glass from one of the tasting rooms. He really spoiled us! Such a great experience, and we would 100% ask for Alfonso as a guide if we were to do trips into Tijuana or up into wine country.Written June 24, 2023
- skmcnulty0 contributionsStressful Experience at the BorderWe had a gut feeling as soon as our guide, Marco, starting talking that we should have left this tour and asked him to turn around. He told us we would have to get out of the van on the way back at the border and wait hours in the pedestrian border crossing. But as we asked more questions about this he would get more vague and say things like "do not worry" and "I will take care of you" and "just focus on having wine today." We did visit some great wineries. However when we approached the border on the way back he was very confusing with his instructions and at one point he just dropped us at the pedestrian crossing, which was not as I imagined, and it was a winding line estimated 2 hour wait online through the streets of Tijuana. We were there holding our stuff and wine. I have back problems and I had no idea I would be required to stand that long. Then he started calling and texting me to get back in the van. He used some pass I could not understand and we then went over the border in the van. All and all it was very upsetting and confusing. I do not trust this driver or this company. Five Star is unresponsive to my calls since then. I would like to hear from them to clarify what should have happened at the border. We never had instructions like that. The email from Five Star the day before said "Also, keep in mind that return times do vary depending on border delays that we have no control of and wait times can vary from 20 to 90 minutes. You will have to exit off the vehicle and declare your citizenship with your personal belongings." I interpreted that we would be in a van and exit at the border if they asked us to exit. But not that we would stand in line 2 hours on the street. Not worth the trip to the great wineries to experience that stress.Written May 18, 2023
- 802heller0 contributionsWORST TOUR and customer serviceWe booked a private wine tour to Valle de Guadalupe for two. Tour was booked through "San Diego Wine Tours" which apparently is a part of "Five Start Tours" Promised in the tour was "Wine Expert" on hand at all time, we did have a guide on hand but he did not speak much English and we were unbale to communicate or get answers to any of our questions. We had been instructed to be 15 minutes early at pick up location only to find that our drive would be 30 minutes late. Our two first stops were not wineries but markets and food courts. We only had 7 wine tastings on the trip, which is nowhere close to the 18 promised in the advertisement. We also only visited 2 wineries and not 3 as promised in the advertisement. Dinner was supposed to be gourmet family style lunch only to arrive at restaurant to find out they had no idea we were coming we were handed a menu and allotted a credit of 1,300 pesos, approx.. $69.00 for lunch. Another 45 minutes were wasted at restaurant trying to get them to understand were on a tour and had expected a lunch to be prepared for us. We were asked many times on the tour about allergies both when we booked the tour and when we got in the van. No wine were served with lunch, we had to purchase our own. In all we paid almost $500.00 for two people to have a $70.00 and 7 tastings of wine. After we arrived back in the US, I contacted to company and they offered us a 20% refund. I told them that was totally unacceptable as they did not provide any of the things offered in their advertisement. It was a 10 hour tour and we spent at least 4 hours of this time delayed by driver or at market, food court that was never even on the tour description. We came to taste Mexican wines. not shop at markets. After many emails back and forth the last I have heard was that they will refund 25% of the trip. I have not seen this refund yet. In short DO NOT EVER book a trip with "Fiver Star Tours" or "San Diego Wine Tours"Written May 15, 2023

- Jwuschner0 contributionsNo Show and No Help - Completely UnprofessionalSigned up for a brewery tour (which they confirmed…twice), and they never showed up. All I got from my repeated calls were automated texts that did me no good. McCue short another tour for their pickup, so they actually owe me a refund PLUS what I lost from not getting the fullest out of the museum we were in. According to the folks in the train station we were supposed to be picked up at, this happens with them a lot. Read other reviews on Google (I wish I had) and you’ll see this company is poorly run.Written February 6, 2023

- Travel7316150 contributionsNever used and Never got my refundI mistakenly booked this company for the Rosarito Bike Race and per the company agreement I cancelled in writing within 1 hour of my booking and I was refused a refund. I am entitled to a 50% refund per the Eventbrite agreement and Alfonso Hernandez with the title Program Logistics / DMC & Events / Sightseeing & Experiences, some people just love titles, refused to issue a refund with no valid reason. To me this speaks about the culture and character of the company.Written September 26, 2022

The trip, bus, organisation and staff were excellent. Very informative and entertaining.Safe and great value. Tijuana itself is somewhat placid compared to what you hear (which is good), even though you are offered Tequila whilst shopping to “improve” your bartering skills. Lovely seaside stop to see the other extreme. Border crossing alone was worth the tour price...... can’t imagine doing that alone. 1 day later, we are still confident to walk around, therefore the food must have been as good as it tasted 😉

Traveling by van with an experienced driver to Old Town Tijuana was the perfect way for me to pop into Mexico. The tequila sampling was fun, the taco tasting was so so. Had 2 hours to wander in Old Tijuana. It was touristy but fun.
We did have to get out of the van and stand in line for about an hour to cross the border on our return

Our trip on the Trolley from San Diego to San Ysidro was excellent and the border crossing was only 5 minutes walk away,we went easily through customs and passport control but once we crossed the border we were not so happy , the nearest public convenience was primitive and a health hazard ,coffee shops nearby did not offer a restroom either, you have to haggle with the taxi drivers as most do not have fixed prices . Once we got to the town center I was not too impressed either . I must say I was eager to cross back over the border to USA ..

Really lovely trip into Mexico from San Diego, pick up at San Diego railway station. Well informed guide/driver who told us all about border area, people, life, history of the close relationship of all border people.

I called to confirm this reservation TWICE as we were excited to go and planned our last day in San Diego around this. I get a call less then 3 hours before departure saying we are canceling your trip. I asked both times when I called before, not the case said anyone party size will be accommodated. This was not the case, and they have now marked it as sold out on Viator. Completely different stories and conflicting information. This is a bait and switch of which I have lost my time to and tied up my money I could have done other things with. We even asked if we could pay to change it to a private tour but they refused to do so! BUYER BEWARE. These people are snakes! Ruined and waisted my time and resources.

I've been on several Viator tours in many places and all have been outstanding, except this one. We did not go to the advertised cultural center, the shopping was basically one street for being solicited to buy overpriced tourist junk, and our tour of historical sites was a description of two statues. Other than that , we mostly rode around in a big van being told what the major grocery stores were, where the next Hilton was being built, and about a dog-track, casino, and soccer club owner who likes exotic animals. It was depressing and boring. Unfortunately, I think we did get an accurate tour of the best Tijuana has to offer.

We booked a tour from San Diego to Tijuana and was disappointed by the lack of organization from this company. The tour started off bad when the tour guide asked if we “wanted to hear the bad news or good news first.” The bad news was that the bus that we were using to get to Tijuana had broken down but the company would pay for us to take Uber to the border. Needless to say, our entire trip with this company was full of unexpected surprises. From doing an extreme amount of walking to switching buses three times and no clear direction from the company, I would say yessave your money and do not book a Tijuana tour with this company.

I’m sorry to hear about your bad experience, despite the issue with the bus we did our best not to cancel the tour. I can understand your frustration. Nevertheless I hope you enjoyed Tijuana.

I booked this trip through the Viator website. We reported to the Santa Fe train station in San Diego, as the voucher had instructed. Five Star Tours was the contracted tour company. The tour did not depart on time due to the van breaking down. The company had to secure another van, and we finally departed a half hour after the published time. The traffic to the border was fine, but once we crossed, the traffic was congested everywhere. I enjoyed the sights and sounds going through Tijuana. Our tour guide was great and had lots of information to share with us. The people in the van were awesome, too. Lunch was all right. I've had better lunches. I wish there was more time to gift shop, but because of the traffic, that just cut down our leisure time.
