- beckyfS7720FR00Loved itWe took a trip to the aquarium and we loved it, we will be back again for sure, thank you all for being open and keeping up on it so it is experience was great.
- BeRob754400It was “ok”. Maybe my expectations were too highIt’s not bad but for the price I was expecting more and the whole place feels a bit dated compared to modern aquariums. The penguin area is nice and that giant turtle in the center tank was very impressive. The rest was a bit underwhelming. Most of the tanks are relatively small some it’s difficult to see all the fishes when the aquarium is crowded. Staff was nice and the kids enjoyed the explanations on the shark jaw, the whale vertebrae, etc
- Kim H00A nice aquariumThe New England Aquarium was nice. It was packed which made it hard to navigate especially with someone in a wheelchair, but we managed. Did you know, wheelchair bound people get free admission? Neither did I, but was pleasantly surprised. Overall was fun, I would try going on a non rainy day so hopefully it's not as packed.
- 922dlp00Marine LifeThis was not the best aquarium I have ever been to, but it was nice and helped to fill a couple hours we had in the afternoon. This is definitely not a place that will take all day to visit. The penguins, seals and sting rays were the highlights. Difficult to identify some of the fish in the tanks and the reading expected at some of the exhibits is not kid friendly. It would be nice if staff was more available to answer questions and provide general education. Aquarium is 4 small floors…5 if you count the top of the large center fish tank, but bathroom and water fountain were only on first floor which was a bit of an inconvenience..
- 464kaitlinm00terrible.if you have visited any other aquariums you will leave confused and still paying the same amount. There was way too many people at the smallest "aquarium" i have ever visited..we had to stand too far away to be able to even view the extremely small amount of ... maybe this place is so decent or great to anyone that has experienced any aquarium ever
- nano173900Excellent afternoon visitI visited 10 years ago and then returned last week. Its expensive to visit but well worth it, the displays are fantastic. As solo adults, we picked a quieter time without so many little ones. Fun for all ages and great for a rainy day!
- aprillV1232KF00Beautiful aquariumWe got to the aquarium right at 9 am when they opened. We bought our tickets online ahead of time which allowed us to get right in at 9 am and not have to wait in line. The seals and penguins were a huge hit with our family. The aquarium was clean, lots of interesting things to see, and the staff was very nice. The only complaint we had was that it was quiet until about 10 am and then it was overly crowded to the point it was difficult to see exhibits. We stayed for almost two hours and saw everything. However, in the end, it was hard to enjoy the exhibits. I would suggest going during the week if you can. It may be less crowded.
- ZL400Small but beautifulOur visit here was about three hours as we like to take pictures of everything. It was very clean, plenty of restrooms, reasonably priced and the animals looked happy. The penguin display is large and the seals had a rare one. There were not a lot of people to answer questions but we did find a staff member and she was great at answering questions and even walked with us a bit to another exhibit we had a question about. It was a nice way to spend some time and after we took a walk down the port.
- mlwmccabe00Had a great timeWe had a great time at this aquarium. I think if you go into it with expectations of what you want to see by looking at the website and what they offer then you will not be disappointed. We went in March -it was busy, but it was not crowded. I think they could’ve offered more items in the gift shop for adults – most of it is geared towards children.
- Dimitra G00Boston aquariumThe variety of different species was quite limited, given that it didn’t even have a big shark like most aquariums . Overall it was quite fun but lame at times.
- travellin_da_world00fun and exciting, but too exspensive (and shars were pathetic)It was fun, exciting and experienced joyous memories, but to be honest, it was too exspensive. The pricing wasn't the stuff I was expecting. It had great penguins, fish, octopus, sting rays, but the sharks were really pathetic. They were so small and they were pups! I was expecting more like a big shark, and it was not what I saw. It was overpriced, at least you could do a fun 'touch the ray', where you keep your hand still underneath the water (this is supervised carefully) and you can tap the ray gently. I won't spoil the experience for you. it is worth going but way too expensive. My favourite were the seals and sea lions - their faces are so cute, so were the 2 turtles!
- 223nessm00Family timeWe decided to pop in for a look round, it was fascinating looking at the different types of fish. We really enjoyed watching the turtles in the main tank.
- JamesDogzLoveAirline00A Great Aquarium! This place is absolutely amazing! A gorgeous architectural design, both interior and exterior. Accessibility, however, is a problem, considering that they only have one elevator! The exhibits are beautiful, they feed the penguins twice a day, and extremely fun for all ages, and humane for the animals. Detailed descriptions of the animals, including how to tell them apart, what their habitat is, and what they eat! Unfortunately, they do not offer reciprocals from other museums, so unless you are a member, you have to pay. But I really do wish I lived in Boston, so this could be my go-to aquarium!
- Amber517600Nice way to spend an hourThe first thing that struck me was that I think it seems bigger when you bring children. We had brought my kids about 10 years ago and the aquarium seemed huge. This time my husband and I went by ourselves. It was still really nice. I love the big multi-floor central aquarium tank. My favorite is always the penguins though. I could stand and watch them for a long time. We had counted on spending a good part of the afternoon there, but it only took us about an hour. Definitely will be back again but I'll be bringing wide eyed children with me. It really changes the experience.
- db90100Whale WatchDid the Whale Watch trip.....it was great and definitely worth every penny! Saw several groups of humpbacks making their way south for the winter. The sea was glassy and smooth and the catamaran cut through it effortlessly. Once at the Nature Preserve whales came within 15 feet of the boat and seemed to express a happy inquisitiveness about our being there to see them. They showed their backs and tails the entire time and we were able to cruise a little behind them. The highlight was when one decided to show off and leap out of the sea. Pure joy!

I heard good things about this aquarium, but my family was done in about 1.5 hours and honestly most of it was spent at the touch tank which was awesome. I'm telling myself that the tank is what my money went for and then we just walked around. Also, we specifically went on a weekday and it was still super crowded. I think they need a better outdoor seal area and the shark area needs to be improved. Otherwise exhibits are good, but it is small and crowded.

The Aquarium has nice displays. I loved all the different penguins and seals. However, the space was very overcrowded. I was surprised for an early Thursday afternoon how busy it was. There is a round tank in the middle expands several floors. It the flow was a little confusing. There is a display in the beginning of to the left that has a touch tank. That was the most crowded. The seal display outside was nice. Down in the basement is a shark display- but without any real life sharks. That was my daughters biggest complaint. She wanted to see a shark tank. If your vacation is limited with time, I would skip this venue Unless you have little kids that love marine life.

Very small and dark, biggest attraction is the winding ramp that circles the large tank. Then you can get to the top and look into it. For the price I wouldn't go again, cheaper to buy a ticket through CitiPass where you get discounted tickets other Boston attractions as well. We saved 45% on all tickets so we weren't too upset. Would probably not go again, plenty of other things to do in the area for kids.

There were too many people allowed in here at the same time. It was very warm inside and people everywhere. It would almost be better if they had you all walk the same way so that everyone could have a chance to look at exhibits. I loved the penguins and the sea lions.

It was raining in Boston so decided to visit the aquarium. It is located right on the harbor. The place was so crowded, you couldn’t reach the small tanks. What was suppose to be a 1 or 2 hrs visit ( yeah it is that small) end up being a 3hrs+ visit. The admission is a bit pricey but the visit was fun. Though there are little tanks around on each floor, the aquarium consist of a four story tank and a spiral ramp around it. When you reach the top the coral reef is beautiful. It was a fun day the kids enjoyed it.. It worth a visit.

This experience is very pricey for what you get. It is a very small aquarium compared to what I expected since it is the New England Aquarium. We went on a Friday, and the aquarium was packed and very loud. It was hard to take a peek at things through the aquarium glass because there were so many people. I am not a marine biologist or have knowledge about tank sizes, but I just felt bad for the number of animals in a few tanks. Some fish just continuously swam in circles in the center cylinder aquarium. I just was disappointed in my experience, and I was out in less than two hours.
There were definitely some cool fish and animals to see, I just wish there was more. The people who worked there were knowledgeable and also cleaned and took care of the tanks!

My family and I (wife, 15 and 13 y/o kids) were in Boston for a few days over the 4th of July and sort of spontaneously stopped at the New England Aquarium on our last day and I am so glad we did!
They had an "outer ring" that took you from ground floor, up, passing various tanks and exhibits with sea life from around the world.
Including on the ground floor a hands-on shark and sting-ray exhibit which was really cool - specifically the sting-rays - where you could literally pet them.
Also on the ground floor was a penguin exhibit which I really liked.
On the outside of the ground floor was a sea lion pool too.
Once you got all the way up, there was then a center aquarium/fish tank that went from ground floor up that you took a spiral walkway down from.
It was very cool, very informative, and to me totally worth the price of admission.
We parked in the structure near the site and anything between 80 minutes and 24 hours in the garage was the same price, so we parked there all day and used that while we did the Freedom Trail (which started 5-6 blocks away).
If you love sea life, you have yo go.
Even if you don't, you should go!

Very expensive, $35 per person. In retrospect, I would have gotten the Boston City pass and saved a few dollars. There were so many people, it was hard to see everything, because everyone wanted to stand in front of the exhibits and chat instead of looking at the creatures and moving on. Also, be prepared to pay out the nose for parking if you drive.

I don't think it's online only, but it's recommended, and since they are selling timed tickets right now that do sell out, it's the only way to guarantee you'll be able to get in when you get there.
