Our day with Colin was one of the highlights of our family vacation! My 20, 17 and 15 year old sons actually got up to meet Colin and drive to Dead Horse State Park in time for sunrise and they all agreed it was well worth it! Amazing, in fact. Colin can put you in the right place at the right time so even a guy like me with an iPhone can take fabulous photos. Mom loved it because Colin did not make her feel stupid! And part of that was that Colin just starts teaching. He doesn't wait for you to ask questions, but nor does he blab. He tells you where you are going, why, and then helps you set up, frame and shoot fabulous photos no matter your equipment or level of experience. We had several hours off before meeting up with Colin again for nighttime photography. Unfortunately the sky did not cooperate. But we had a great time anyway. Colin still taught everyone what to do and we all worked on it together despite that the clouds did not cooperate with our plans. We loved our extended day with Colin and would highly encourage you to give it a try. We took a photography tour at a different national park last year and also had a good experience. But that photographer just took us places and waited for us to ask questions. We felt like we were with a real teacher in Colin.

You all were really good sports about the blah sunset and lack of Milky Way. I guess you will just have to come back!

Colin took us to Dead Horse Point for sunrise pictures. It was absolutely breathtaking. He helped us with positioning so we ended up with stunning photographs. Most of us on the tour were just using our iphones. We also went to Canyonlands in the morning and got some beautiful photos. The sunset pictures in Arches National Park were a bust due to the clouds not cooperating but we still got great pictures from great locations that I feel that we would not have seen if we had just gone to the parks on our own. Thank you Colin for an amazing day, with breathtaking scenery! KarNel, Morgan and Alex.

Colin was a great teacher and knew the less frequently visited locations for great shots. The parks are very crowded and we didn't end up wasting time circling around the parking area looking for a place to park. Strongly recommend the night time photography add on. The Milky Way was amazing and he showed us how to maximum the impact of the shot. Strongly recommend him

All of the sites visited are exceptionally beautiful, and Colin did get us to them for the best lighting situations. That being appreciated, we were less than impressed with the photographic help. Colin did offer a few simple tips on landscape photography but unfortunately camera setting assistance was not helpful. (We use Nikon and Olympus). We also felt he did not show much willingness to accommodate any physical limitation and often felt "left behind". (We are older and perhaps slower than the younger participants, but feel we are all in moderate physical condition). Also the total group for this trip was 7 people and only 4 fit in his vehicle, so our group was expected to drive on our own despite all having been vaccinated. We feel if the tour says "pick up at hotel" it should have been offered to everyone. He needs a larger vehicle to accommodate this or else limit the group size. He did offer the opportunity for night sky add on after the sunset which was nice had our group been willing at that point. So our best advice is to know your camera before hand and be in decent condition. Be aware that you won't see all of the famous arches, this being somewhat limited by crowds and parking access, as sites that were not as crowded were chosen for the tour. I would add that communication with Colin about where and when to meet, etc., was acceptable via text.

So sorry that your tour was not up to your expectations, and that I was not very familiar with your particular cameras, and therefore less helpful in that regard. I do generally limit trips to 6 people or less (and generally only have 2-4 people for most tours), somehow an extra reservation slipped through and I ended up with a larger group. For that I apologize. I hope your images turned out well. You missed a lovely night of Milky Way photography!

I had not visited Moab in over 15 years and wanted to photograph the Milky Way. I had an approximate date (new moon) and contacted Colin. I told him what I was looking for and my expertise level and he took it from there. All I had to do was show up. He was very engaging, gave great history and talking points about Arches NP and provided training opportunities along the way. I will definitely book with him again - perhaps in Estes NP.

Photography tour in Moab, Utah

Colin Young offers great photography advice and has a vast knowledge of the Moab and Canyonland National parks. He knows where the best spots to take photos are located in these parks, which is a great thing. I felt I learned a lot about outdoor photography from Colin. He's also very patient and kind. In my opinion, his photos of the national parks are phenomenal. My own advice to photographers at these parks is to make sure to bring a quick release plate so you can attach your camera to your tripod much faster - great lighting is temporary and doesn’t wait for you.

It was such a pleasure to spend a few days with Colin in Moab. He knew all the best places to go and the right time to be there. I also appreciated that he was very flexible with the shooting locations. At the last minute we had to bring our dog with us so Collin arranged for photo shoots at some areas outside of the national parks where we could bring the dog. I would highly recommend this trip. If you are wanting to up your photography skills, Collin is definitely the one to help.

Colin Young is a great photographer and teacher who is very familiar with the area. He took us to some wonderful places and showed us some different spots to shoot photos from that most people don't know about. He was good about offering advice and even helped me out when my camera failed on me! I highly recommend his tour and will definitely be seeing him again.
