- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is an optional form of insurance similar to rental car insurance that limits your liability in case of accident. It is non-refundable. If you opt to purchase the CDW your deposit for rented a GoCar is only USD$150.00 instead of USD$400.00
- GoCar’s hold a maximum of 2 people. Prices are per GoCar - not per person.
- Can you cross the Golden Gate Bridge? No, but the tour will navigate you to Fort Point. Here the bridge soars about 200-feet above your head. It is possible to gain pedestrian access to the bridge span from the car park at the bridge vantage point.
- All renters must be able to read, understand and sign a liability release and waiver form (standard participant agreement)
- Yes, you set your own pace. The car always knows where you are and you can park anywhere you want (motorcycle parking or car parking) for as long as you want, and as soon as you start to drive again, the car will begin to talk!
- Are controlled with a motorcycle-style handle, throttle, and hand brakes. The 3-wheeled cars seat two and have a lockable trunk for your things. Their small size makes parking a breeze, and in San Francisco - a major bonus!
- On the day of rental, a $500 security deposit will be held on the customer’s credit card. If a CDW or SLI insurance plan is selected, a $150 security deposit will be held. The security deposit is released when the GoCar is returned.
- For the safety and comfort of passengers the maximum height is 6'4" (1.9m) and maximum combined weight of 500 lbs (226.8 kg) for two passengers
- Passengers must be 4 years of age or older - and small children must safely fit into one of our DOT approved helmets. The GoCar is registered as a motorcycle - but a motorcycle license is not required to operate the vehicle.
- Foreign language options are available in French, Spanish, Italian and German
- Note that drivers in San Francisco do not typically drive fast, therefore an average speed of 30-mph or less can be expected while driving.
- Driver must be 21 years or older to rent and must provide a major credit card and valid driver’s license at the time of check-in. A driver’s license must be in the customer’s physical possession (no photocopy). For foreign customer’s, an international license is not necessary.

We used our Go City Explorer pass here for the 1hr tour. It was so much fun, I wanted to stay out longer.
First note, if you have the Go City Explorer Pass you need to call in to GoCar to reserve a time. They should send you a waiver via email, but they recorded my name wrong so I never got the email. I had to sign the waiver when I arrived and that takes a few minutes.
Second note, this is like any other vehicle rental so they offer their insurance options. Best to double check whether you’re already covered to save you some money.
The first thing they do is review your tour options. We booked the 1hr tour which is advertised as going through Chinatown, but was told we could go near the Golden Gate bridge instead, which we did. Then they go through a very quick orientation/safety video. I bit too quick for me, so I was a bit nervous but you learn to ride very quickly.
On the website, there is mention of a tablet for an extra fee, but our GoCar had one already equipped. The GPS for the most part is very helpful, although it would be nice if you could have the option to program a single route so you don’t get confused by the other available routes. That being said, when given the choice to go to Lombard street, i took it which added time and cost but it was worth it.
Routes are laid out very well so you always go through controlled intersections with lights or 4-way stops. You never need to make more dangerous left hand turns onto a busy street. And locals look to respect the GoCars as any other vehicle.
Driving these are a lot of fun. We booked 1hr and probably ended up using them for 1.5 hours. Could’ve easy spent more time on them. Fun way to tour SF.

This tour was great! Very informative, easy to drive, done at our own pace, can skip what we don't want to see or stay longer. We would definitely do these again.
The only issue we had was when we go to the company to check in they couldn't find our reservation for about 10 minutes. After that everything was good. Be aware that you will most likely go over your 2 hour time limit and they do charge $1 per minute after that. We went over by about 20 minutes, which I didn't really care about another $20, I thought it was fair.
I love that the car talks to you, tells you where to turn, shows the gps map. It was really great, plus all of the attractions that were fit in to the tour. It had a lot of what we wanted to go see while we were in San Francisco. It was perfect for us. Golden Gate, Bunkers, Canon, Beaches, Lombard Street, etc...
It was very enjoyable and easy.

I was a little worried after reading some of the 1 star reviews because a technical issue would ruin this, but it looks like that is the extreme minority. We were given the instructions by video and helmets then on our way within 30 mins of walking in the door. We went out first so a couple who were behind us followed when we decided to intentionally detour, so it may be worth having a quick convo with any other people who are there before you set off. The GPS is easy to use (all automatic) and to be honest you won’t want to go off the obstructed path. We stopped off at a viewing spot for the bridge but didn’t do the full tour (3hrs?), the half tour is more than enough really. Get used to people taking photos of you at traffic lights, especially at the famous Lombard Street section. They’re really easy to drive, if you want to stop for a coffee or anything then it’s straight forward, but as you are paying for your time I would use these to see the sights rather than as genuine transport.
Loads of fun and we got some great photos. Definitely the highlight of our few days in the city. An easy way to get to the Golden Gate Bridge, have a quick walk round and get that experience in as well.

When doing the Golden Gate Bridge tour-do you actually get to go across the bridge or just the entrance?
