Way too hot inside the bus
The lack of air conditioning in the buses is stifling. We had two day tickets but only managed to make it to the first stop on day one as we joined in the afternoon and the heat inside other bus was unbearable. We went again the following day and managed to secure a seat in the open top for the first part of the journey. When we got back on after the Golden Gate Bridge stop there was only space inside and it was again terrible, just so hot and no air flow, really bad.

      Cruise passengers beware
For those coming from a cruise ship….. We are handicapped with stairs but found the seating on the lower level very good with good unobstructed views………..until the first stop. We were then ushered out to another bus and took our seats on the lower level. This area was obviously where luggage was stored before installing a few seats. The windows do not open, views are obstructed by mesh so impossible for photos and are very high so near on impossible to see the city landscape. The commentary and music was so loud it was impossible to talk. Of course you could wait for another bus which maybe is photographed in their brochures and what we originally boarded, but that may be full. If you are on a cruise, return time is critical. It was an expensive mistake so never again. Buyer beware that the bus you may like to think you want to stay on, may not happen.

Good way to see the whole of San Francisco but not when there's traffic. Took almost 3 hours to make one circle.
We usually enjoy Big Bus tours in cities we visit. They're a great way to see all the main sites affordably and then hop-off to visit the places we wish to see more of. However, with this tour, we were stuck going through parks in gridlock traffic so it took forever. Much of the time I just removed my earbuds as we weren't going anywhere. On that day there was a breakdown or accident in a tunnel so it wasn't very fun. We didn't feel like hopping off anywhere, not even the Golden Gate bridge as it would have taken us 20 minutes to look around and then we'd have had to wait 2+ hours to get another bus back to the city. As it is we felt we lost half the day sitting on the bus without enjoying anything really. Not the best spend for this tour. It would be far better to do a Grand City tour in San Francisco as a proper tour that stops and gives you time in several of the places.

      Not for us.
The positive is that it’s a good way to see a lot of the city with the bus visiting most of what you would like to see. You have to keep in mind that you are limited with where the bus can go. So you may have to walk a little to get to the attraction or site. The Main issue for us was the wait times. The very 1st stop was crowed with a very long line with an hour wait time. With limited time for our visit we didn’t like that we were wasting time waiting. For us, looking into a private tour would’ve been the way to go.

      Hot, Seeaty, Crowded. Avoid.
Too few buses, so they are rammed; no room to sit upstairs and standing room only downstairs. The plus side is we did get a free sauna as the air con wasn’t working. Having used big bus tours the world over: this is the single worst experience. Got off half way around.

      Bus Tour
Definitely recommended as it goes near a lot of the iconic San Francisco sights you want to see. A must is to get off after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and enjoying the views. Also the Golden Gate Park is definitely recommended for the Japanese Tea Garden alone. Most of the “must see” sights are either at a stop or within a short walk.

      Great Day!
Our trip to the Napa Valley with #Big Bus Tours was one of the best tours we’ve ever done for the price. As an added bonus we were the only passengers on the tour. Our driver/guide, Grady made the whole day a pleasure; his commentary was very informative and we thoroughly enjoyed his dignified, humorous company. He managed the whole day perfectly as he drove us through SF to #Korbel Winery, Armstrong Woods and #Russian River Winery. We loved the whole day! Thanks, Grady!!

I thought that since the company name is Big Bus Tours, perhaps we would ride on a big bus, rather than an 18 passenger van. Some parts of the ride were so bumpy that it hurt my wife’s back and she is still feeling the effects 2 days later. Also very winding, hilly roads up to the woods, which did not bother me but I can see how it might bother some. The tour bus driver/guide (James) did talk the entire ride there and back but I enjoyed his commentary for the most part. He was an encyclopedia of SF trivia, but often digressed to other topics. The woods themselves were impressive and the exhibits addressed some interesting historical events associated with them. But it is also sort of a lot of the same thing (tall trees). Gift shop had some trinket-y stuff but also some cool stuff. The cafe was so-so and over-priced.

Thank you for letting us know how the experience was and we are sorry that it wasn't what you were expecting. It is difficult for a large vehicle, such as the double decker bus, to navigate the tight, winding road down to Muir Woods. Muir Woods itself really is a sight to behold when down at the bottom. We hope to see you again.

This trip depends what you want. I booked so that I could visit Muir woods as a visitor to Sam Francisco without a car. I had completed the round trip on the big bus open top tour and so was disappointed that we spent over half an hour repeating many of the locations already identified within Sam Fran. before setting off over the bridge. I was told the shuttle journey should take about 30 mins and it took us over an hour. Having lost valuable time already, and having been promised 2 hours at the site when booking, it was also disappointing that we were allowed only 1 hour 20 on site. Lucky we walk fast! However we got back to the shuttle with 2 mins to spare and we’re given the feeling we were late, then on the way back, we diverted around to Sausalito, which had not been disclosed to me as part of the trip, and had to endure another hour to get back. Added to this was that the shuttle was glass sided and roofed, the air con didn’t appear to work and it was uncomfortably stuffy. It was a relief to get off.
The Muir Woods were spectacular and well worth a visit - but you may want to book elsewhere to ensure that you have plenty of time and aren’t rushed.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Muir Woods is a beautiful site. It seems like you did not receive all of the tour information prior to booking as everything listed that said took up time is actually a part of the Muir Woods Tour. The entire trip is 3.5 hours long and you do get 1.5 hours (approx) to explore Muir Woods at your own leisure. We do apologize if you were not informed correctly regarding full aspects of the tour.

Muir Woods is a stunning captivating environment would 100% recommend a visit. Nature at its best, the fresh smell of the redwoods is something else. Our tour guide was full of informative and facts however the tour to muir woods was house to house commentary which was not needed and prolonged the journey by at least 20mins. The 1.30 hrs stop at muir woods was enough for us to take in the spectacular views.
The jouney back was somewhat drowned by useless facts, there was no break for any of us on the bus to reflect, talk to our partners and people about muir woods itself due to constant loud speaker. It was easier for me to fall asleep on the way back. Also, just on our experience our drop off back was favoured over tourist who needed to be elsewhere for another tour which meant our drop off back was prolonged by another 30mins which we was not told about.

Patrick was a wonderful tour guide! He was incredibly friendly and accommodating and made the trip feel fun and special with all his knowledge about San Francisco, Sausalito, and the redwoods. It wasn't merely a ride to Muir Woods, it was a fun tour of the Bay Area. Muir Woods was beautiful and it felt like we had the perfect amount of time to explore with younger kids along. The woods were completely magical and unlike any other place I've visited; a real refuge of silence and beauty. Patrick was so nice and flexible when one of us left an item behind at the cafe and had to rush to grab it before we left the parking lot. He also made sure to ask passengers about extra needs they might have. The whole experience felt friendly, comfortable, and was a wonderful addition to our trip.

Definitely worth booking! Patrick was an amazing guide and made the experience better with useful, interesting facts and with lots of humor. We were in an open-top bus and the weather was beautiful so we enjoyed the scenic views all the way to the park, to then continue to be blown away by the magical and fairy-tale-like woods. 90 minutes at the park was enough to do a full loop on the boardwalk and soak in all the beauty and peace.

Nobody was present at the meeting place set for April 13 at 9 a.m. at Departure Point Pier 41.
I went to the BIG BUS TOURS San Francisco office. The manager told me that the Muir Woods tour was canceled and I could do a city tour instead or get a refund.

Pick up and drop off was easy and convenient. Mini-bus was comfortable and clean. Patrick, our bus driver was so knowledgeable and funny and added a lot to our tour. Drop off was also really convenient! Dropped us off anywhere along his route back all the way to union square, saving a extra trip! There was also a small error (mine) when booking and the customer support for the Muir woods tour was able to quickly handle it without issue and minimal stress. Definitely would go on other tours with this company!

Great trip, picked up practically outside our hotel (Zephyr) a small minivan/bus and transported to Muir Woods. Take note the road up/down to woods is windy and can cause a bit of travel sickness nothing major but be warned. We had a lovely walk around woods (abt an hour /hour 1/4 stop) more than enough time to walk to the bridge 4 loop. Saw a banana slug but no other wildlife really as too many people around. Then a stop back in Sausalito for an hour explore or if you chose stay there and catch ferry back to san fran. Marco our driver/guide was lovely and had a well tuned patter/local knowledge of the things you pass along the way. All in all a good value trip and well worth it if your not a driver in the area.

We visited the woods 20yrs ago and personally wouldn’t have gone back but had two teens with us now and they wanted to see the redwoods so this was a compromise to the long day trip to Yosemite Park. We live in Wales, UK and are surrounded by nature - is it a cool place yes, are the trees tall yes - but ultimately its just a small woodland walk. If you live in a city then of course it will be amazing!

We had a week in San Francisco so had the free half day, if only there a short time and you used to nature settings- maybe give it a miss. In saying that BigBuses trip to the woods couldn’t be faulted.

Top tip: check out Golden Gate Park local bus route 28 from the wharf to bridge to Park beautiful setting for nature!

Arnel & Cody were awesome providing us the best package to suit our adventure! The tour through the city was a great way to view locations and easy hop on hop off at the stops. The app provides real time for the bus arrivals and location pick ups. The Muir woods was amazing. Happy we decided to take this route because parking is limited. This made it east and 90 mins to explore nature. Also enjoyed a mixed berry scone after the hike. Les the tour guide was also fantastic! Highly recommend!
