Glad we didn't skip the beer/walking tour!! Thank you Henrique!
Couple in our early 30s. We left booking Alcatraz to the very last minute, and the only tickets left were combos like this. We chose the early trip to Alcatraz to get the most out of it... Alcatraz was incredible, as expected. A couple of hours on the island was just enough time for the (very captivating) self-guided audio tour and time to take in the sights outside. The self-guided tour was really moving at times. It didn't feel too rushed . An unexpected bonus on the island was an art exhibition in one of the old factory houses. It displayed photo IDs created by former/current inmates and what they dream of becoming. We got back with little time to grab some lunch and head to the beer tour... I'll admit: we were considering (and very close to) bailing before the beer tour as we were getting pretty tired by this point... ... but I'm so glad we didn't! We arrived at the first stop and greeted by our wonderful tour guide, Henrique. I gather a lot of people chose the combos for last minute tickets to Alcatraz as there was only one other couple. Henrique talked us through all the different types of beer and walked us through the brewing (while tasting of course....). He had formal post-secondary training in brewing and was able to explain the process and methods from start to finish. It was at a very relaxed pace and as people who knew little about beer it was all explained with a perfect level of detail and kept our attention. We then wandered to a couple of spots across town. All the way Henrique would stop and point out hidden gems, describing the history behind unsuspecting buildings and areas. It was absolutely fascinating, and we learned so much of the city! It was a truly pleasant surprise. The first bar was the only brewery, but all bars served locally brewed beer. The bars that followed were both incredibly varied: an Irish bar ran by an Indian family, serving delicious Indian bar snacks and a dark/dive bar with cosmic decorations. All the way Henrique offered us options that allowed us to tailor the experience to which beers we liked and he'd take the lead when we were undecided. Even the other couple who didn't often drink beer / alcohol said they thoroughly enjoyed it all. The whole day was perfectly comfortable, interesting and all round lovely. I'm not sure if we just got lucky with having Henrique to guide us... we will have still enjoyed the day but his tour made it extra special. Thank you!! Highly recommended... and don't skip the walking/beer tour!

    Great Beer Tour
As a repeat patron of food and drink tours around the world, it was great to see the availability of this tour. The owner of SF on Tap, Adam, was our guide on a brisk but sunny day. We met him along with a dozen or so other "drinking buddies" in a cool local brew pub. Adams excitement and knowledge were fantastic. Although it was a bit loud and nearly impossible to hear all that he had to say in the electric environment of the first bar. As we walked along to our next stop, Adam provided detailed history and narratives on the many street murals and other elements of the Mission area. Two more stops, each with a variety of beers along with a couple of snacks! The next day Adam emailed pictures of the group and a listing of the beers that we enjoyed. Great day, great tour, great host. Recommended.

Alcatraz and Walking Beer Tour with Mike Levinson
Doing this tour with Mike was amazing! This was the best tour ever. I did this on my second last day but I wish I would have done it the first day. Mike was super knowledgable about not only beer but also SF and its history. Mike was super friendly, entertaining and very interesting to listening.

    Fun time!
The Alcatraz tour was impressive and informative. Lena was an excellent guide and I enjoyed all of our stops and the tour of the Mission District. I had a fun time with the other tourist as we tried many varieties of beer and got insights on a working brewery. Well worth it!

We met some amazing people in the group and had a fabulous tour guide.. Dylan! I would highly recommend to anyone looking to try new beer, learn more about the process, learn about the city, and socialize with new friends!

    Very thorough
Did Alcatraz in the am on our own. Met guide Dylan for beer tour. He did a great job. Did a 4 hour walking tour with a couple beer stops. He showed us a lot of things we wouldn’t have seen otherwise

    Not just a beer tour!
This review is for the beer tour, Alcatraz was as you’d expect. This was such a great tour! It was a smaller group, the host was really welcoming and engaging, and pointed out some awesome bits of the area I would’ve missed without his input. Really knowledgeable too. A great tour. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in learning more about beer here and the area. Lucked out at one of the breweries too, got a sample as fresh as it’s possible to be.

Way more than just a beer tour!!
We wanted to see Alcatraz, and we love beer. This purchase seemed to be a no-brainer. Alcatraz was excellent and that part of the day speaks for itself. It was nice that you get a 2.5hr break after Alcatraz to go eat where you’d like before meeting the beer part of the tour. The walking beer tour portion of the day was way more than we had expected. As expected, you are taken around to a few places to drink beer and you’re on foot from place to place. The beer knowledge the guides had translated into the high quality beer selections they had lined up for tastings at each place. They didn’t just pick a lager, an IPA, and a stout at each stop, the beer tastings were well thought out and excellent. The piece that was so unexpected was the San Francisco history that was recited while walking through some famous neighborhoods in San Fran. We have never been to San Fran and likely would have never seen or learned the things on this tour. Awesome day. If you’ve not been to San Fran, make sure to do both of these. They’ll do up to 12 people on the beer part so you’ll likely meet some cool people as we did. Cheers!!

Boozy, educational, and fun! With one caveat...
I had such a great time on this tour! I'm typically weary of group tours, but I was so pleasantly surprised on this one. Our guide, Dillon, was really knowledgeable, passionate, and so friendly. I was really happy with the awesome balance of beer drinking and walking around the Haight-Ashbury district of SF. Who knew that what went into the bottles was more than just liquid...we even got to try malt and smell hops! I also was so pleased at getting to interact with fellow tour goers. It was such a fun time. It didn't feel like a forced tour experience -- Dillon really made us feel like we were all just hanging out and throwing back some beers. I'd highly encourage anyone to try -- even if beer isn't your first drink of choice! One comment though of something I observed which was quite off-putting -- the owner of the group who had introduced himself to us as observing Dillon -- he would often cut in or jump in or interrupt Dillon as he was attempting to answer a question from myself and fellow tour goers. It was clear that he was not giving Dillon a chance to answer the question and sometimes he would talk over him, which made me feel uncomfortable. It was clear that Dillon's confidence would drop as he was being interrupted very frequently. I'm in the psychological field, and although I'm not sure everyone would have noticed this, I felt I had to say something -- as this behaviour left a bad taste in my mouth, after an awesome tour, otherwise. It felt that the new tour guide was much more interpersonally savvy than the boss of the company was. It was clear he was trying to micromanage, and it compromised the experience.

    A fun combination!
We had a great time at Alcatraz, but the beer tour was incredible! Dylan was so informative about each of the beers we tried and was a great tour guide! All of the beers we tried were delicious, especially at the San Francisco Brewing Company. I was impressed by some of the history that was mentioned in our walking tour. You get plenty of beer and the snacks were delicious. If you enjoy history and beer, this is the perfect combination tour! Plus, Dylan was just a super nice guy that it was like hanging out with a buddy. Great time!

Enrique and Dylan were brilliant hosts, the pairing was perfect, with Enriques knowledge of beer technique, styles and characteristics paired with Dylan's knowledge of locations history, beer characteristics and significant moments in SF was everything you need in a walking tour. We met Josh, the owner of the SF brewing company, this was a nice addition. The distance between venues was perfect, you could absorb the information and plenty of time to ask questions. The amount of tastings is generous, and for a non beer drinker, I may now be converted, thanks Dylan and Enrique, a perfect start to our stay in SF...thanks for the tip about Tonys pizza, me managed to get a table after a 25min wait, perfect! Oh, the t-shirts are super cool, nice design

Had a fantastic tour by Cameron and visited 3 bars which we all got a sample of 4 drinks. Tour take around 4 hours and does involve a little walking but nothing to heavy. Had some history thrown in as well so all in all a very pleasant afternoon.

...then remember it.

This tour has all the great elements of a good beer tour. Plenty of tastings, a wide range of beers (not just IPA's), great conversation, and most importantly... snacks.
The employees at this company are dedicated to their craft (yes, pun intended) and have an obviously great relationship with the establishments you'll see. In addition, you'll cover a decent sampling of the city and they will tell you some very interesting historical tidbits with some good photo op's.
Also, they will sell you a T-shirt at the end, but they don't put any pressure on you It's a pretty cool shirt. I bought the shirt. I've only worn it once so far, but it was still worth it I think. It's up to you, but I'd say go for the T-shirt.

My finance and I booked a combination Alcatraz/ Craft Beer Tour through SF on Tap
and had an outstanding experience all the way around. The communication in advance was outstanding with clear instructions/pictures on where to go for both segments.

The Craft Beer Walking tour was a truly outstanding experience. Adam is highly knowledgeable about both the City of San Francisco and craft beer. We got to see an hear about the history of the Piers, Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, etc. as we walked around the city. We even stopped into a historic pinball/gaming museum briefly that was really fund to see.

The best part of all is that it felt like a day out with new friends. In addition to us, we met Tomas and Joakim from Sweden and had great conversation over beer. The beer was excellent quality, but I really don't think you need to be a beer lover to fully enjoy this tour. There was also a significant amount of beer during the tour. We really talked about a variety of topics, learned about the city and had a great time. Adam was also very generous with his time as the tour ended up lasting longer than was advertised. This has got to be one of the best experiences in San Francisco and is a great value for the money.

We did this for my birthday, and it was everything I was hoping it would be. Enqrique our guide was a total beer geek, and it was awesome to learn about the different technique for making the different brews. I certainly tried more new beer types that day than I have in my entire life!

We had an awesome group of people to share the day with, from all over the country (and some overseas). The pacing worked really well; just enough walking between pubs to make room for more beer! Enrique had great stories about the history, culture, and landmarks we walked past. All the pubs we visited were clean, friendly, and full of atmosphere.

My one piece of advice is to eat a good lunch beforehand, and bring really good walking shoes. You will burn a lot of energy, though thankfully we avoided most of the infamous hills.

We had the best time on this craft beer tour of Fisherman’s Wharf! Andrew was so knowledgeable about both beer, and the stories of the neighborhood. We love beer, and expected to enjoy this. But it was far more fun than we expected. Take this tour. You won’t regret it!
