What to expect
  • Select from a mid-morning or early afternoon tour to suit your schedule, and meet your guide at the boutique Clift Hotel in Union Square. Admire some of the most unique buildings in the heart of San Francisco's tourism and shopping district, including landmarks designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and other famous architects, plus works of art by Salvador Dali and Philippe Starck. See evidence of San Francisco's contradicting cultures as you stroll past historic hotels, modern tech hubs, luxury flagship stores, and one-of-a-kind boutiques. Hear the clanging bells of cable cars while walking among throngs of shopping bag-toting tourists mingled with tech and financial district workers, New Age hippies, panhandlers, and other figures of San Francisco’s diverse downtown streetscape. Feel what a difference one city block can make as you cross over into Chinatown, where the neighborhood has a distinctly different vibe. Learn about the important history of Chinese immigration and culture in San Francisco and scout for Feng Shui symbols while walking past narrow alleyways, tea shops, herbalists, markets, and traditional bakeries. At the end of the tour, your guide can direct you to a renowned steakhouse or dim sum restaurant for a taste of the city’s contrasting cuisine (own expense).

Great for a date!
Nov 2020
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour experience with Valarie. Highlights for us were the St. Francis Hotel and the Neiman Marcus rotunda. We really appreciated the historical and architectural details Valarie provided and it was fun to see familiar sights through new eyes. As a bonus, it was a good pandemic-friendly (mostly outdoors) activity. We’re looking forward to another Hobnob tour!

Union Square and Chinatown
Jan 2020
This was our second San Francisco walking tour with Valerie. We wanted to learn the history of Union Square and Chinatown. Valerie's in-depth knowledge made the tour a big success for us. The post earthquake/fire architecture is very interesting. The hidden treasures of the many hotels, art work /galleries and people are fascinating. The evolution of Chinatown and the plight of the immigrants was eye opening. We are looking forward to our next tour with Valerie/Hobnob.

Had a wonderful and enlightening tour with Rajni. She is very passionate about San Francisco and knows so much history and where the hidden gems are. Most I would have passed by if she hadn't been there to show me. We had a great time and the tour was very informative.

Things I never knew were there!
Oct 2018 • Couples
Our guide, Radje (sp?), was very knowledgeable and organized. We saw so many architectural details in Union Sq. restaurants, bars, and hotels that we never would have found on our own. And we come every year in October to the city. From beautiful cove ceilings to art deco bars to modern abstract paintings, it was all a delight. We learned some history too, and she got us to look up in Chinatown in order to see the colorful curving Chinese roofs. Definitely worth it.
