Badly maintained bikes, makes you pay for not maintained/worn out parts
We rented bikes from Bay City Bike Rentals for two hours. Already in the beginning of the tour, the chain on one of the bikes was a bit choppy and did not feel maintained. Just when we were about to reach the Golden Gate, the chain broke and it was no longer possible to use the bike. We called the shop and they promised to be there with a new bike within 10 minutes. We had to wait for 30 minutes, missed the golden hour for photos and when we got back, they demanded that we would pay for the broken chain. After some arguing, they agreed not to demand the cost for it as we claimed that it had not been properly maintained. However, I would not use this shop again and encourge you to use another rental shop!

      Beautiful ride around San Francisco
Really lovely service even with our big group. Took us through booking our bikes with ease and remained very kind and polite even though we made the hiring more complicated than needed

      Fun trip
Had a great time biking the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, and Adam, the tour guide was great and took good care of us. Enjoyed the sceneries and tour stops such as Fort Mason and Palace of Fine Arts.

      Good facility, too crowded
People were very nice, bikes in good shape, shop location quite convenient but very crowded and confusing once people received their bikes. Too difficult to hear instructions, got separated from tour group.

      Spectacular ride on SF coastline
Very nicely done! Adam was efficient, passionate and was a treat to ride with. The route is spectacular with lots of lovely lookouts. We went on thanksgiving when the Sausalito ferry was not operating and they refunded that amount.

Adam was a fantastic, knowledgeable, and passionate guide. And Marcus at the front desk was a lifesaver (because we were running late.) Would 100% recommend.

Such a great experience. The best way to get around and see lots of the city! We covered tons of ground and would definitely recommend electric bikes.

This was a fantastic tour that we would highly recommend. Our superb tour guide, Adam, took us down side streets and alleys that presented a slice of The City we hadn’t seen before. He shared his passion for the City and it’s rich history while always aware of our safety.

Adam was the best tour guide! He really enjoys giving the tour and made us enjoy and see things we wouldnt have seen if it wasnt for him. He is friendly, funny, very knowledgeable and passionate about his job. The bikes where really nice and worked incredibly! I really recommend this tour for everyone who want to have a taste of the whole city and each neighborhood. It lasted 4 hours but the tour really felt very short. Dani and Alex

Highly recommend!! Our tour guide, Adam, loves SF and it's contagious. He combined historical knowledge of SF with fun facts about the city, local businesses, and the cultures of each neighborhood. We learned so much from him and it was a blast. I've never used an electric bike, so I was a bit nervous going into it, but they were really fun and made getting up those famous SF hills easy. Just, overall, a great experience! Thank you Adam and Bay City Bikes!!

    Absolute waste of time!
Booked a very expensive 4 hour bike tour, which started at 11am. Arrived at 10.30am (as suggested on booking) and waited in line for 30mins. As we waited and time crept towards the tour start time, there was no communication AT ALL from staff. Eventually at almost 11am, we were taken to get our bikes and waited another 25 mins…..25 mins after the tour should have started. Finally the ‘manager’ (Christiano) approached us with the news that the tour guide wasn’t coming. When pressed as to what had happened he claimed they had “had an accident” and it was “on a bike” His behaviour/body language suggested this was a lie. As did the fact that the employee who gave us a bike spent quite some time explaining how/who we should call if there was a problem / I did point out that surely we would have the tour guide to deal with any issues.
So, having paid to travel to the tour site, having paid nearly $200 for the trip, having wasted over an hour for the tour to start…. We had to leave feeling very let down.
It was our belief that trip didn’t go ahead because we were the only 2 customers booked on the trip and as a result they felt it wasn’t viable.
The manager Christiano suggested we might want to just “go on your own” - no!!! We had booked a 4 hour guided tour and that it what we had paid for.
I also did not like the fact that you were expected to buy insurance to cover damage to the bike too. So beware that one! Oh, and they held a $1000 deposit on your credit card - even if you were on a guided tour!? It really was unbelievable.
I would NOT recommend using this business … in fact … avoid it like the plague!
Seriously, poor customer service, dodgy behaviour and hidden costs.

I can assure nothing was dodgy. Our treasured guide was hit by a car in a bike accident on the way to the tour and is STILL in hospital. The body language you mention would be our manager being concerned for his friend. The authorization deposit info is in your confirmation as well as the tour listing before you booked; same with the damage insurance info. I’m sorry you didn’t get to get to take your guided tour but we advised you could use the bikes on your own to try to rectify a horrible situation. Thanks.

My husband and I went on a tour yesterday and absolutely loved it! Adam took us to all the most amazing spots and gave us the hidden history of SF. He was funny, knowledgeable, and of course prioritized safety. He had the best restaurant recommendations and really made us feel like we knew the city by the end of the tour! After the tour ended, we were able to keep the bikes and go on a self-guided trip to the Golden Gate Bridge, which we were given directions to. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting SF, whether it’s your first time here or your tenth - there’s always something new to learn and discover!

A little pricey but worth the $ (and you get to keep the bike, which comes with a lock, until nighttime). Our tour guide Adam really knows SF. He has a passion for the place, and it shows. See Chinatown, a fortune-cookie factory, the shoreline, skyscrapers, stadiums, house boats, old SF, street art, the Mission and beyond. Better than hop-on/hope-off and a walking tour, because you cover way more ground quickly.

Don’t forget to ask Adam for ideas for bars, restaurants, sites to see, etc. We followed his advice (who doesn’t love an tiki bar!) and it really enriched the trip.

You don’t have to be an expert bicyclist by any means but I wouldn’t recommend the tour if you’re a legitimately bad bicyclist.

Great way to see a lot of the city. Bikes were in good shape and easy to adjust and handle. Our guide Adam was very knowledgeable about the area, history and current status of things happening in San Francisco. The food trucks we stopped at for lunch had a good variety and delicious food. I really enjoyed this tour at the start of my vacation.
