- RudyTercerof00Bike tour to Sausalito and Golden GateOur tour guide Brian was great! The problem is that getting the ferry back to pier 39 is terrible, there are only a few ferrys and we have to be 2 tours in líne waiting for the ferry so take your time and be patient.Other than that was very good experience.
- soloirish201800A brilliant tourExcellent Day. Eoin was a brilliant guide. Great facts and wonderful stories along the way. A very relaxed bike tour. I highly recommend this bike rental company.
- 868mariannec00Great day!!We have A wonderful experience today. With our Tour guide Owen we went to the golden gate bridge and Sausolito. His enthousiasme en knowledge of The city was perfect.
- marcustA899EE00A must do in San Francisco!Great trip! Perfect cycle tour with our ten year old son. Owen was a brilliant tour guide and it was just the right pace and length. Ending up for lunch in Sausalito is a great option and the ferry trip back is easy so all in all a great experience.

- nuttinutt00RENT YOUR BIKES ELSEWHERE !RENT YOUR BIKES ELSEWHERE The staff who rent out the bikes are clearly not trained to do this, and the manager is in absolute bad faith when it comes to acknowledging his responsibility... We arrived in the afternoon (3pm) to rent bikes and do the classic San Francisco / Sausalito tour, with a return ferry trip, as suggested in most guidebooks. To start with, the saleswoman didn't know the difference between the different types of rental bikes. That's wasn't a good start... We opt for electric bikes at $75/bike, having heard about SF's famous slopes. The saleswoman tells us that the store closes at 8pm, and offers to sell us ferry tickets (of course more expensive than directly at the port, but that's fair) to save time. At no point does she tell us that taking the 7.20pm ferry would mean arriving too late at the store, and that we'd have to pay $25/bike if we arrived after closing time. Which, of course, happens, as the ferry is running a little late. Of course, this is surely mentioned in the contract, but since the renter signs a paper contract that is immediately withdrawn and is not given a copy (and the staff can't even find your contract the next day!), there is no way of being properly informed of any problems we might encounter along the way. As a result, we ended up paying $20 for parking to keep the 2 bikes safe overnight + $50 for not returning them on time! In addition to the $150 for the bike rental, that's a very, very expensive renta, and a very bad customer experience during our few days in San Francisco ! The staff is probably recruited for the season, and not very well trained, but we can't really blame them... What upset us the most was that the owner, who was contacted on the phone by the sympathetic manager, didn't want to know anything and didn't even deign to come and talk to us. We have to pay and that's that. And from what we can see of his responses to previous complaints, for him everything is always the renter's fault (as is often the case in tourist areas, they don't care about customer service as tourists won't be coming back anyway), and never his own. So stay away from this company and rent your bikes elsewhere !
- FredvanZwol00A bicycle ride through San FranciscoThe guide told us interesting stories about the locations on an enthusiastic way. The flexibility the bike back or to take the ferry was great.
- Alan W00Family cycle across Golden Gate BridgeOur guide (Eoghan?) was very knowledgeable about San Francisco and it’s history. The cycle which went at a sensible pace for families, was reasonably flat with a few short hills just before and after the bridge. We stopped for dinner in Sausalito and cycled back before it was dark. Would thoroughly recommend this trip.
- LightPacker81308000Alcatraz and guided bike tourReally enjoyed our two days. Very easy to redeem to vouchers for each excursion. Alcatraz was really interesting and the audio tour was fascinating. We had a fab tour guide on the bike ride. Was worried it would be really hilly but apart from one small steep climb it was easy. Owen was really knowledgeable about the area and it was definitely worth getting the guide as we would not have noticed half as much by ourselves. Sausalito was gorgeous and again very easy to return on the ferry. Only downside was the ferry tickets were not included in the package. Overall it made our trip to SF even more enriching.
- G4603BHjenniferm00Easy ride on the electric bike 🚴♀️Great day, the views were amazing! Brian the Irish man was a great tour guide, he was informative, friendly and nothing was a problem. He was kind enough to take photos for me as I was travelling solo. Highly recommend this tour!

1 pm April 18. 6 of us rented e bikes to ride the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito.
We were told they would need a credit card number and a “$3000.00” hold for damage deposit. What we wern’t told is that they actually run it through as a purchase.
On to the ride. It was good until we crossed the bridge and started the downhill to Sausalito. One bike kept quitting and the e assist didn’t work always. After a stop break in Sausalito we decided to head back when we saw a weather front coming in and started riding up the hill. The e assist continued to work off and on. We decided that between all of us we could get back without calling for help and having six of us wait. Especially with the weather issue.
Once we got back and explained what happened, we were asked why we didn’t call for help. We expected and felt that a “regular bike” charge would be fair. No go!
“You paid online” we were told.
After a lot of discussion and going to the manager, we were promised a $20.00 refund.
Eventually this did happen.
The real kicker was the “hold of $3000.00” that was run through. The refund rate 4 hours later was $200.00 less due to exchange. I would think that a hold was just that. Not actually run through.
If the opportunity comes again, we will not rent from them again and would not recommend this vender.

Hi Mike,
We run authorizations, not purchases, for deposit, as unfortunately bikes are vulnerable to theft; this is the same thing hotels do when you check in. Once bikes are returned, authorizations are dropped from our side... but we cannot control your bank’s side.
We haven’t had a call from your group saying yours wasn’t dropped, so guessing you wrote this and realized all is well. Kindly reach out if you need assistance from us to expedite your bank’s efforts, thanks!

Do the most part I had a good day out until I had a breakdown. Got a flat tire on the way into Sausalito. Rang for help, was told to get the ferry, call when back in San Francisco and someone would come meet me. Did just that but once I got to Pier 1 and called was told bring bike to nearest shop…2miles/3km walking bike to the shop! Got there no apologies no concession, not much concern. I had planned on it using back, so ended up costing me the ferry ticket and the hassle of walking a bike thru people back to the store. Very disappointed in the customer service/care and ultimately lack of empathy on bike return. So no, I would not use this hire place again!

Hi Chook,
Your experience sounds awful, but we don’t think you have the right company, as there are many in SF. We don’t have your name in our system (Chook from Dubai), and as there are only 3 phone operators, none had this experience as described (nor would we do this to a customer).
If you think otherwise, please email us with your receipt to baycitybike@baycitybike.com. Thanks!

we rented two bikes for the whole day, paying a surcharge to get insurance coverage. after an hour of use my bike broke, becoming unusable. I had to take a bus back to the bicycle depot .. open claim for refund amount (I had paid extra insurance) but this reimbursement did not happen. don't rely on them. they have old and poorly maintained bikes and it's not a serious company! there are so many rentals .. go elsewhere !!!

Dear Matteolambretta,
We are sorry to hear that you experienced issues during your rental. We offer a $4 per bike optional damage insurance that covers any damage to our equipment bike during your rental. We also have roadside assistance to quickly swap out bikes that experience issues during your rental duration. All you have to do is call and we will dispatch your problem. If you were charged for damage after purchasing insurance, then this was done by mistake. Please contact us with more information so we can reverse these charges for you.
Thanks!

The bike that we rented was not working properly. It was a frustrating experience. When I complained. They just said to file a complaint and they didn’t even review the bike.

Sorry to hear this. When folks rent we require them to test ride and come back during the test ride If there are any issues. If any problems occur during the ride we include free emergency rescue service; seeing that you are local we wish you had just called us as we would’ve brought you a replacement bike. It would have been so easy to resolve during the ride! Finally although you aren’t privy to our operational procedures we do mark bikes that people complain about and send them to the mechanic for review. The customer service staff you encountered would not take care Mechanical issues

This was a trip highlight for me on my recent stop over in San Francisco. I would recommend it to anyone. It is especially nice after a long flight to move the legs and get some fresh air and amazing views over the bay. The cycle path is very easy to navigate. A round trip from Fisherman’s Wharf, around Chrissy Fields and over the Golden Gate Bridge and back again takes just two hours and it is absolute heaven. It only costs $8 USD per hour to rent the bike. They give you a map and their phone number in case you run into any problems. Take a bottle of water and put it in the little front pocket they provide on the bike. I loved this bike ride so ,ugh, I did it twice. 😊

We hired bikes for the day and boy did we cover some miles - across the Golden Gate to Sausalito (and back again), Presidio, Golden Gate park, Haight Ashbury, Palace of Fine Arts, and of course the Wharf. We were out all day and experienced sunshine, cloud and showers, but we just kept peddling. Some of the best sights and greatest memories came from those ‘little gem’ sights that are always off the beaten track. Never mind the trolleys - get a bike and explore the worlds smallest big city (it’s only 7x7 miles apparently, so there’s really no excuse!). The bike rental was easy, and the bikes sturdy (and comfy!). The best way to see San Fran.

The electric bikes were so easy to use! I was a little nervous because I had never used one before, but Andy explained everything clearly and was so personable and sweet. He is a truly wonderful employee! I would do it again in a heartbeat!

We have been to San Francisco many times and were looking for a new experience so we rented bikes and did the ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and then took the ferry back to the Ferry building. the ferry ticket is included with the rental price of the bike. Total tour took about 3 hours, but we went at a leisurely speed and took time to take lots of photos. If I were to do this tour again, I think I would do the e-bike as there are a few big hills to climb and since we had the bikes all day long, we could have explored other parts of the city. probably worth the extra price unless you are big biker. As it was, biking across the bridge was pretty good even on a normal bike. Looks like a few other people complained about the service. They have 2 locations and we rented form the Bay Street location and the service was great. They even made a few fantastic suggestions of where to eat when we returned the bikes.

We recently rented bikes through Bay City Bikes and went on a self-guided ride to Sausalito. Bikes were in great condition. One person in our party of 13 had an E-Bike and the rest of us were super envious. The hill leading up to the GG Bridge is a doozie and he sailed right up that hill with no problem. We reserved our bikes online and they were ready when we arrived just after opening. We rode the ferry back from Sausalito with out bikes. You cannot reserve a time to travel back on the ferry and the first one filled up quickly delaying out return. You can drop your bike in Sausalito for an extra fee, which is a great idea if you are ferrying back.
