    Really nice Luau near Kapaa
This was the second time I have gone to this Luau, I think it is one of the best on Kauai. It is a nice small venue with a great show, staff and food. I really like the hands on portion before the show starts. The dancers are amazing. I will return on my next trip to Hawaii.

    Amazing time
What an amazing time! Chose this show because it was at the resort we were staying at. We have been to other shows and enjoyed them, but this one was different. Loved everything about it! Would definitely go again.

    Memorable
All aspects of the evening where excellent and exceeded expectations. The MC was informative and entertaining in explaining Hawaiian cultures…..the dance, music, fire show, food, service, and drink were all worth the experience!

Authentic dances from all over the Pacific
Dancers are from a studio that teaches authentic dances from several Pacific Islands. The musician is a Grammy winner. They are all very good and the performances included hula, the New Zealand Haka warrior dance that you see before Rugby games, fire dancing, etc. The food was the best so far on the island - the poi is boring but the announcer joked that it would be. The venue is a covered pavilion. It started to rain so the staff pulled down shades to protect us from rain splatter.

    Charming more than exciting
The food was very good. The show was good but I’d hoped for more fire dancing. The one young man who did fire was hard to see and more of an exhibition than a dance/show. The whole luau went too long with the preliminary dancing and drum lessons and vendors.

    Smaller (& pleasanter) than Smith's.
It has probably been 10 years since we did Smith's, and it was good. But we remember feeling like we waited a lot and like we were packed in. The Ka Hikina venue is perfect. It is by the beach at the Sheraton Coconut Beach. It has a bar without a tip jar or any apparent limit. It has a to die for buffet. While I didn't get to see a pig taken out of a pit, I sure got to eat some of the best pig ever. There was fish, beef, chicken, and tofu. Lots of veggies, some yummy deserts. And hardly any wait to be served, and then seconds were easy - and I'm sure I saw folks there a third time. The hula show was not as big or professional as Smith's, but very good, and very charming. A local hula school run by one of Larry Rivera's children puts on the show. There are many performers who are in their 20's and some older than that, plus some awesome local kids as well. They really know what they are doing. There was also a Samoan fire dancer, which was a happy surprise. As I would not expect that in a "hula school" production. The parking, arrival, and leaving were all so quick! I'm guessing there were only 100 to 200 attendees. The scale of the event was very pleasant, and the professionalism of the food and entertainment was phenomenal.

    Not to miss Luau
We attended Luau Ka Hikina on September 9, 2022 at the Sheraton in Kapaa. This is an excellent event. In addition to the wonderful food, the performance of the dancers and musicians was spectacular. They need to be promoted more. This is the best authentic luau there is. With as many times as we have been to Kauai, this is always our favorite show. Leilani Rivera Low does a fabulous job putting her show together with attention to detail. There are multiple cultural aspects shown in this performance that are often left out of other shows. Not only is it fun and entertaining, but educational as well. She is respectful of the island culture and heritage She should be promoted more for the wonderful job she does. This is a "not to miss" luau.

    10/10 recommend!
I’ve been to maybe 4 different luaus on Kauai over the years and this one was one of my favorites. It’s at the Sheraton in Kapa’a which was super convenient for us since were staying nearby. So location alone was wonderful. It’s also lovely that it’s right off the ocean, so the views are pretty! The food was so so good, it’s open bar, and the performances were amazing! My favorite was the haka from New Zealand. It’s nice that there are activities to do beforehand as well. My 4 year old niece even went on stage and danced. We all had a wonderful time and everyone from the bartender to the servers to the dancers to the singers were all so friendly and kind. Definitely recommend this luau!

Wonderful time with my fiance. Food was delicious. Drinks were perfectly made (cutoff at 7:30). Performances were diverse and passionate. Wonderful first luau experience. Setting is beautiful with water behind the stage.

Fantastic evening! First off I recommend getting there early. We arrived about 45 min early, walked around the resort a bit then got in line. We were in the first 10 people at this point. While we stood in line we were welcomed with a mai tai and fresh skewers of pineapple. Enjoyed them both. Check in was easy and we both received a shell lei as we entered. Sat in front row and were welcomed to join the performers out in the grass for some fun pre show activities. Drum playing and ball spinning, folks were all having fun. Open bar the entire time so the Mai tai was always full. Back to the tables and the announcer, who was fun, explained how each table would be dismissed one at a time for the buffet. We thought the food was exceptionally good. Pork was flavorful and juicy as was the beef. Plenty of food and you were encouraged to return as many times as you wanted for more. Tried real poi for the first time! After dinner the show started. Well trained performers sang and danced to the many different cultures that make up Hawai’i. Costumes were incredible and were told were all hand made. Really learned a lot from the show. Fire performer had to do his part away from the stage/building for safety reasons but it did make it hard to see for some parts of the room. Couples and families all looked like they enjoyed the evening. We sure did and would book again without hesitation. Price was much lower than many of the other luaus we looked at and was a fraction of the cost of the one the cruise ship offered.

There were many things about this luau we enjoyed but probably wouldn't have attended had we known a couple of things.
The price was fair if you drank alcohol as it was an open bar, but quite high for those of us that only drank water, coffee, tea, soda. We also attended with my parents who have a hard time walking. There was no bathroom at the luau and they had to walk quite a distance into the hotel for a restroom. Also, upon arrival, they spend almost an hour inviting people on stage to try hula and poi balls, etc. so don't show up hungry expecting to eat right away.
The entertainment was good, musicians, dancers and singers. We especially enjoyed our host who talked about the history of the islands and was quite funny on top of it! Our personal opinion though was that the program went too long. After a while, the dances seem to be the same and they saved the fire dancer towards the end. He was the best and should have closed the show and we would have gone away happy, but they continued with more of the same type dances as earlier. The food was very good. Lots of variety and flavors and there is plenty to keep you full. Overall it was a good night.

From the beautiful covered oceanfront location at Sheraton Coconut to all the workers from the moment we arrived to the moment we departed it was such a great Luau! The MC & Food and entertainment were so very good! Highly recommend this Luau. I don’t want to be negative because nothing about what I am about to say is the fault of the Luau organization: A very loud talkative group of young women (20’s & 30’s) made the first 10-15 minute “history talk & instruction time” almost impossible to understand. People all around me were wondering when they would stop loudly talking so we could hear. Then when the shell was blown to signal the start they finally stopped talking loudly. Yeah.

We waited outside for a very long time in the heat sweating before we were aloud to sit down. The drinks that were given to us were not great at all and watered down. Once we sat down we had to sit with a table that was long and packed with people. Me and my family all had to sit separate and we were directed to sit where they wanted us to sit. The show didn’t start until an hour after we sat down. The show was very short. The food was good but not amazing. They put on the website that the drinks are unlimited however, they don’t tell you that the drinks are only for a limited time. It was very difficult to see the stage from where we were sitting and we had to share the table with a bunch of other people. We barely had any room when we sat there. We all felt very uncomfortable sitting together closely without much room. The dancers were nice to watch but it definitely wasn’t worth the money. The buffet closed early and I was only able to get one plate of food and no desert. This was personally one of the worst ones that I have been to. There was no ceremony of the pig and no fire show was included unlike other shows we have been to. The website states that the show is on the water. However, they fail to inform you that you are inside of a building with no A/C sweating profusely the entire time. Just for me and my husband it was almost $400 and it was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent in my life. I will not be doing one of these again.

After much research I landed on this luau. We got there at 5 PM since the seating was 1st come, 1st seated and it worked in our favor. We ended up being center stage, about 6 seats from the stage. I'm not a fan of buffets but this was done very well. It was high quality, flavorful food, with plenty of it, to allow additional servings for those who wanted it. The staff did a great job at efficiently moving everyone through the buffet & quickly clearing dishes afterwards. There was an open bar, with beer, wine, mixed drinks and pop. The only negative was the mai tai's ended up being watered down from the fast melting ice in the evening heat, so they weren't worth drinking. The MC was entertaining and was interactive with the crowd, which was fun! The hula dancers, musicians and fire guy were talented and worth spending the evening with. We travel a lot and have been to several shows over the years. This one is my favorite, without a doubt! We highly recommend this show!

I have to say this was the one thing we regretted booking during our vacation. While we enjoyed the performance of the dancers, the food and "open" bar was a complete disappointment. We got there early and were within the first 50 people to be seated. However, our table was the very last to eat, the last people to arrive were the first tables to eat. I took small portions wanting to taste a variety of different food with the intention of returning for another portion of the items enjoyed most since this was supposed to be a buffet. However, within 5 to 10 minutes of sitting down, someone was already gathering plates, the lights were turned off and I could not see what I was eating. No chance for a second trip to the buffet, I could not even finish the first plate since it was in darkness. I went to the restroom then the desert table and all that was left was some fresh fruit and tartlets. When we tried to get a second drink, I was told the bar had already closed and we could purchase drinks in the bar at the end of the show. After we had already paid close to $400 for food and an open bar for 2 people! Some people sat on their balconies, parking lot or on the beach and watched the show for free. This was such a disappointment for our last night on such a beautiful island, we were really looking forward to a nice evening and feel like this was a complete let down for the cost vs what was delivered.

Their response was: "Thank you for your feedback and we apologize for falling short on this matter. I know the Open Bar is open from 5:30pm-7:30pm nightly as for the buffet line I have requested to keep the buffet line open longer when we are sold out"

FYI, the confirmation only states Open Bar - does not have timeframe or there is a time limit on the buffet as well. If you choose this location, load up as early as you can!

As a traveler passionate about delving into authentic cultural experiences, attending a Luau in Hawaii was a must during my recent visit in November. I embarked on a thorough search to find a Luau that resonated deeply with the rich heritage of Hawaii, and my quest led me to Luau Ka Hikina at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort.

This wasn't just a performance; it was a soul-stirring journey back through centuries of Hawaiian history and tradition. For me, authenticity in a Luau isn't just about entertainment; it's about becoming immersed in the culture. Luau Ka Hikina excelled in this aspect, creating an experience that transported my soul to ancient times. The cultural connection was palpable, making it more than just a mere spectacle - it was a profound homage to Hawaii's heritage.

Moreover, the location of this Luau is steeped in historical significance, adding another layer of depth to the entire experience. Discovering that Kauai’s high chiefs once called this place home, and knowing it was considered one of the most sacred areas in all of Hawaii, elevated the evening to something truly special. Learning about Kauai's last king, Kaumualii, and his ties to Coconut Beach further enriched the cultural context of the event. Additionally, the proximity of Kauai's birthing stone, a historic monument just a short drive away, added an extra dimension to the visit, encouraging guests to explore and honor Hawaii's heritage.

While the imu ceremony, an integral part of traditional Luaus, was missing from Luau Ka Hikina, it didn't detract significantly from the overall experience. The abundance of other cultural elements more than compensated for this absence, creating a memorable and enriching evening.

In conclusion, if you're seeking an authentic, culturally immersive experience that intertwines with Hawaii's captivating history, Luau Ka Hikina at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is an excellent choice. It's not just a Luau; it's a reverent homage to the soul of Hawaii's past, offering guests a meaningful journey through time and tradition.

I have attended many different luaus on Kauai, and this one was by far the best. What set this one apart is that it is the only one that is put on by the official hula school, which makes it feel more authentic.... Not to mention that it helps support the school itself. The host was very entertaining, and had a great sense of humor. The musicians and dancers were fabulous, and they had great interaction with the audience. Best of all... the food was AMAZING! So many options to choose from, and all of them good. Plus the open bar really lets you get your money worth if you're up for it. Overall this was an absolute winner for me and my family. Would definitely go again.

The food was not bad. The performers were good but not polished. It was more like attending a college performance from the theatre arts department rather than a. $200/person ticket to a high quality show. We arrived at 520pm and were seated in the middle at the second row of tables. I could barely see the stage even though we were not far away from it. I wish the stage was higher up so that you didn’t have to try to look through peoples heads to see the performers. The fire performance is noton the stage but outside the building; on the far north side. Again making it hard to see. I am surprised a new facility is built for Luau but it was not built to allow a fire performance on the main stage. I would not recommend.

This is the best luau on the island if you want a more intimate experience, don't care about seeing the pig, and want really good food that even picky eaters will like. We've been to two other big well known lulus on the island and felt like we were in a herd of people everywhere and didn't think the food was any good at either one. Yes, you could say the show was a little more "grander" with one stage looking more like a formal theatre, but I didn't feel like we missed out on anything from this show. The performers were spectacular, the outfits extensive and detailed, and the singing wonderful. It did look like they built a small platform for the fire thrower on the left hand side. Sit towards the left facing the stage or on the middle aisle for best view. You recieve a shell Lei but can buy beautiful flower Leis or flowers headpiece when there if u want. My teen daughter loved hers! They also have a couple jewelry vendors beforehand and we loved the activities beforehand and all the beach family photos we took. The food is amazing! First Luau that we liked the food and everyone in my family, even my picky teen kids ate it and went back foe seconds! We didn't care for the desserts though. No traffic getting out like all the others either. Bravo! Will come back for sure!
