Take this tour - the stargazing is unmatched!
You’ll never see as many stars as you will on this excursion! We were staying in Waikoloa so we drove Hawaiian belt road to do some sight seeing and then had late lunch at Hawaiian Style Cafe (amazing) in Hilo before meeting our tour guide Henry. Henry was very knowledgeable with each part of the tour. We drove through the gardens and learned of Hawaiian history on our way to Rainbow Falls and Boiling Pots. They were cool and then we went to the top to see the island’s oldest Banyan tree. Next We drove to the lava cabes and went in about 1/2 mile. It was not tough to walk but tou wNt to wear closed shoes like sneakers. Henry explained about how the heat of lava created different formations. Then we drove anout 45 minutes up Mauna Kea for view of sunset above the clouds and dinner of sandwiches and salads. We did not go to the peak because of lower oxygen levels and cool temps. Henry gives great overview of star formations and uses laser to point out constellations. The Dobsonian telescope proves you with beautiful star sighting and is also used to show you deep space. This tour was mime and my son’s favorite thing we did on the big island.

          It was good
We had good experience visiting volcano national park, it was educational experience, went with family, have daughter who is middle schooler was worth it. To really show the volcanoes which is active. To study volcanic rock formations, history of earth in geologic terms.

A good quick guide to volcanic action in Hawaii
We had a very knowledgeable tour guide in Nate - he was able to help us understand the processes going on to create the different volcanic landscapes. From black sand beach to the craters and steam vents in the National Park.

Beware and book this only if you want to do charity!
The worst experience I would say. They don’t tell you properly that they don’t go to the summit. They say “they avoid taking you to the native land.” In fact, they don’t even take you to the visitor center. They take you off of highway and set up a telescope and show you 5-6 stars and talk for 1 hour or so. We were just 6k feet high. They give you a morsel of rice and exactly 4 zucchini pieces for dinner, which could cost you $2. They say that they provide hot chocolate and coffee, but we didn’t get anything. It was such a waste of time and money. There were 3 buses from the same company at the same time…everyone of them were pissed or surprised that the way they scammed us. I’m not sure who rated 5 stars to this tour? May be their own people? I want to rate them zero so that others can save their money.

          Amazing tour, entertaining and educational
Ok, so Ray is a wealth of information, and Sam is just as informative. We did a Captain Cook snorkeling and Coffee tour in Kona, Hawaii, and my wife was the happiest I’ve seen her. I am here to say Wow, she and I will do it again.

          Sunday, December 3rd day tour.
My wife and I took this van day tour as a Holland America cruise excursion. The title of the excursion was Hawaii Volcanoes National Park & Waterfall Explorer. We were picked up from the cruise terminal. Greeted by Hunter, he would be our driver, and our tour guide. Let me tell you right away that Hunter was great! Both as a driver, and especially as a tour guide. He is a pro. A great speaker. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. Our van tour started with an informative drive through Hilo. We did visit a couple of wonderful waterfalls, then Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Including the crater, steam vents, the visitors center, and then the lava tube. While by the crater we stopped for a nice picnic lunch. I think this ended up being around a 6-7hr tour. It went fast. This was our last excursion while visiting the Hawaiian islands on this cruise. And our last tour ended up being our best. Hunter did a great job. I would certainly do this tour again.

          A Fabulous Day in Hilo!!
I booked the Waterfalls and Volcano National Park Tour through Princess Cruises. We docked in Hilo at 8:00 and met our tour guide, Victor, in the terminal at 8:20. There were 12 of us in a modern van. Victor was so warm and personable, and made us all feel instantly comfortable! We spent over 7 hours touring different waterfalls and looking at the volcanos. He made the history of Hilo come to life! I learned so much! We had lunch in the afternoon, plenty of bathroom breaks, and an opportunity to pick up some souvenirs. The tour itinerary was good……but Victor was fabulous!!! I highly recommend any tour that he is leading!!

          Stellar Sam and stargazing
We were very fortunate to have great weather for viewing some constellations and planets (Saturn and Jupiter were viewable) with the solar telescope. Our guide was Sam who brought his environmental science background to the tour and was also incredibly knowledgeable about the local culture and, of course, astronomy. Also very thankful for the coats they provided, it was below 50 degrees at our stargazing point! A must do excursion!

          Secrets of Puna
Secrets of Puna sounded like a wonderful excursion offered by our cruise. The trip started out wonderfully, with a few stops showing areas of past lava flow along the coastline. The second half of the trip was supposed to give us the availability of snorkeling and shopping. Well, we had 45 minutes at the hotel where the tour agency was located where snorkling was off a boat dock and shopping was at the hotel gift shop. Courtney, our tour guide, did a good job, but most tourists don't ay good money to go to a hotel gift shop.

Look elsewhere, they don’t want your money.
We stayed at the Grand Naniloa and attempted to rent kayaks every day of our stay. Every day we were told that we couldn’t due to “staffing issues” and to come back after 10am on Wednesday. We even checked on Tuesday to see if we needed to make reservations for Wednesday (the last day of our trip) and were assured that we didn’t need reservations just show up “anytime after 10am”. We showed up at 12:30 and were told we couldn’t rent a kayak even though there were 3 people at the desk because the one man that told us to come “anytime after 10” was going home soon. It would have been really helpful if he had said “anytime after 10am” meant 10-12pm. TLDR- even after asking everyday we still missed the 2 hour window they were willing to rent kayaks during the week. No one there could have cared any less that they’d given us the run around all week. Truly horrible service. Hilo ocean adventures is just down the road and the staff is actually nice and willing to do their jobs. Stop there first, I wish I had.

          Knowledge is Power
Great excursion while in Hawaii! Diego, our guide, was terrific! He was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining in discussing background info on the island and the stars in the sky. The weather was not always cooperating throughout this trip but that should always be taken into consideration.

Great Tour Guide, Fun Stops, But does not take you to the summit!
First off -- Nate, our tour guide, was outstanding! We learned so much about the stars, planets, and other interstellar objects. He was well-versed in Hawaiian history and culture and so patient with our 7 y/o copious amounts of questions! Unlike other tour guides, I didn't feel like he was "BSing" through the tour; he would say if he didn't know something or if he was taking an educated guess. I will say, our group, and at least one other group, did think this tour took you to the summit of Mauna Kea -- something that is off-limits at night to do on your own. This tour DOES NOT take you to the summit. You go to about 6K feet or so, and it's all accessible independently if you so choose. What you are paying for is the tour guide's knowledge, telescope, picnic lunch, and the other stops along the way (all of which are free to do on your own as well).

Our travel group had three great tour guides who showed us the best of Hilo. They picked us up from the Sheraton in Kona and we had an all day adventure. Chris, our tour guide, was friendly and very knowledgeable.

Royal Caribbean Cruise agent sold us this excursion making it sound wonderful we were so looking forward to it.,BBq lunch, complementary Champagne and beer sadly not the case for us. we could have visited all these public places by hiring a taxi 60$ each as we later found out from other passengers on the ship. And the lunch was a small bottle of water and a plastic pk sandwich which the tour guy took from the back of his van served on a picnic bench Total rip off
