    A beautiful historic lighthouse.
So I visited the North Point Lighthouse on a Tuesday morning in April, and it was closed, (only open on weekends from 1pm to 4pm). This didn't make me regret visiting though, as the lighthouse itself is beautiful as are the grounds in which it is located. Well worth a visit and a walk.

    Fun climb for a view
We had fun climbing the stairs to the top of the lighthouse. Exhibits are well done and informative. Only open Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Beautiful location and a must visit for those of us who chase lighthouses everywhere we go.
We visited during the week. We were disappointed to find the lighthouse closed, but we loved exploring the grounds. If we are back in the area, we will definitely try again.

A Lighthouse not near the water
It's a lighthouse that I saw on a tour. It is nice but it didn't seem like you could go inside. It was worth a selfie but there wasn't much else to see. The views were blocked by trees.

    Beautiful Stop
Although the lighthouse was closer we still enjoyed walking around it and enjoyed the grounds. It’s a beautiful lighthouse. Would love to have walked up the lighthouse and checked out their museum. I did look in the back porch window as another lady mentioned it. They have lovely flowers as well.

    History
O Lu reason I have 4 stars was because of the limited hours. We are o Lu in town during the week, so unable to visit inside. The outside is well maintained and clean.

    Lighthouse history comes to life
Wonderful experience. Knowledgeable and friendly staff that made our snowy day visit interesting and fun. Absolutely worth the visit. The surrounding park is also nice and the outside provides beautiful photo options

The lighthouse was not open but we still walked in the area and viewed the lighthouse. This was a very relaxing visit.

    Very well maintained!!
I search for any nearby lighthouses when we are traveling and stop by if they are within reasonable distance of our route. This one was about 30 minutes out of our way, and well worth it!! I got some great pics from outside and looking off onto the water from below. It was closed while we were there, so we didn't get to go inside. The lighthouse itself along with all its surroundings and grounds were very well kept!! From the street, it has a park like setting where local neighbors were our walking or riding their bikes. I'm glad we stopped by! Maybe we can make it back sometime and check out the inside.

Nice spot but no view of lake
We could not visit when open so only able to see lighthouse from outside. They put up a great mirror in front that you can take a selfie with lighthouse in background (wish others would do this). Trees have grown so there is no longer view of lake but nice path to walk.

    Great lighthouse to see!
Very beautiful lighthouse with a little gift shop. They have a big mirror you can stand in front of and take a selfie. If you are in the area check it out!

    Impressive setting in upscale neighborhood
This beautiful lighthouse is unique for lighthouses along this coastline, made of steel instead of brick like most of the others. The museum is very informative and has lots of history about the light station. One of the things I found very interesting was that the original light was much shorter, they built a new base section and lifter the original light on top. That is why there is a seam in the middle. The upper section is the original light. If you sign a waiver, you can climb to the top of the lighthouse for some beautiful views.

The lighthouse is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area but it's beyond walking distance from downtown. If you have a car and its a nice day, the drive along the lake front and the architecture in the Lake Park District make a trip to the lighthouse more than worthwhile. Not sure whether there is a bus. But on Untapped Tours which I highly recommend, Mike takes you to the lighthouse.

I was just wandering around the area and found this beautiful Lighthouse. It is very much worth a visit! People in there were so friendly and passionate, which I did not experience in any other museum in Milwaukee.
Plus: go on the top to have a beautiful view!
Walk around in the Neighborhood. There are beautiful parks, houses and also beaches.

Beautiful lighthouse and educational display in the museum. I never knew it existed before. Pleased we were able to climb the lighthouse for a dramatic view of Lake Michigan's coastline.

The North Point lighthouse is an appealing structure, tucked away in an almost unnoticeable park on the bluff north of the Milwaukee Harbor. The museum offers fascinating information about lighthouse lenses, former lighthouse keepers, shipbuilding, and some of the vessels & crews lost in the lake. I loved learning that a woman, Georgia Stebbins, served as Lighthouse Keeper in the 1880s. She hauled barrels of mineral oil up to the top of the lighthouse every four hours every night for over 26 years! An excellent panoramic view of Milwaukee and the entire lake shore is the reward for climbing the circular stairs and ladder to the top. There is a paved walkway along the bluff that runs past an elegant statue of Brig Gen Erasmus Walcot, Surgeon General of Wisconsin during the Civil War and thereafter, mounted in his horse. A few few hiking trails and stairways afford access to the lake level. The walk past the small Lake Park waterfall is appealing.

I had 36 hours on my first trip to Milwaukee and chiefly was interested in Frank Lloyd Wright designs. But on the way from one to the other, I passed the North Point Lighthouse. It was a lovely slice of New England in the fall color; the museum was interesting and the docents were friendly; and the climb to the lantern was relatively easy. Great view. Don't miss it.

We're so very glad you enjoyed your visit to North Point Lighthouse Museum! Our volunteer docents are available to give tours of our museum during our open hours. It's truly a wonderful place to visit. We're in beautiful Lake Park, designed by famous landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed Central Park in NYC.

A beautiful garden surrounds this place in the very clean city of Milwaukee. My sister and I toured the museum. I red and loved the story about the female lighthouse keeper then climbed the spiral stairs to the top myself. What a job she must have had climbing up to feed fuel to the light for years. This is a lovely place for wandering about and getting a long view of Lake Michigan.

Wasn't our female lighthouse keeper amazing? Her name was Georgia Stebbins. She was our longest term lighthouse keeper - not many women were keepers at that time. It's estimated Georgia climbed the steps over 63,800 times! She was also known for her gardens - which our Master Gardener volunteers have replicated.

Pay the fee (if you're military or have a veteran ID card it's free but make a donation) and climb the lighthouse. It's not that tall and the end there's a ladder (not my favorite) but it's a fun piece of history and it's a nice view, too. The grounds are beautiful. It never occurred to me that ships sank on Lake Michigan (a lot of ships!) - there's an informative history museum on the premise, too.

Thanks for visiting us and for the very nice review. Our lighthouse is up on a bluff, so that helps to add to the great view. It is amazing, and very sad, how many ships have sunk on Lake Michigan.
