Overview
Get up close with the killer whales off Orcas Island, the largest of the San Juan Islands near Seattle, on this guided, 3.5-hour whale-watching cruise from Eastsound. Led by naturalist guides and captains, climb aboard a Blackfish fleet vessel and travel through some of the most picturesque scenery in the Pacific Northwest searching for orca, humpback and gray whales. Along the way, see ocean wildlife in their natural environment, like seals, porpoises, sea lions and otters — plus a wide variety of birds and more. Sightings are guaranteed from April through early September.
What to Expect
Our Orcas Island Whale Watching tours depart from Eastsound and cruise out through the San Juan Islands. Experience nature first hand with our knowledgeable captains and naturalist guides, who have advanced degrees in biology, geology, and more. We pride ourselves on our fleet of small, high speed vessels with small groups- never carrying more than 30 passengers. The Blackfish Fleet are the fastest in the region: our newest vessel the Blackfish III is the first Marine Ambulance in Washington State!

On our Orcas Island tours we will often pass by local landmarks like Patos Island Lighthouse, Sucia Island,Turn Point Lighthouse, Monarch Head on Saturna Island, Lime Kiln Lighthouse, and even venture as far as Victoria or Vancouver BC if it means seeing Orca! While traveling through the most beautiful scenery of the Pacific Northwest, we search for Orcas, Humpbacks, Grays, and more. We often encounter seals, porpoises, sea lions, otters, and more. Birds abound in our region as well! We almost always see Bald Eagles, and we frequently see Common Murres, Black Oystercatchers, Rhinoceros Auklets, Surf Scoters, Ancient Murrelets, and many diverse marine species. We occasionally find Tufted Puffins and even endangered Marbled Murrelets. Seasonally hundreds of other bird species migrate through and overwinter in the Salish Sea.

We are proud to guarantee whale sightings on our tours from April through early September. We are so confident in our ability to find whales because the numbers speak for themselves: In 2015 we had 100% sighting success on over 1400 tours! We have the fastest boats so we can get to where the whales are, from Victoria to Vancouver and everywhere in between!

Wonderful!

Our captain and boat crew were accommodating, informative, and knowledgeable. We loved our day on the water seeing Orcas, islands, and Sea Lions.

Refund policy is awful and they will rip you off

TLDR: My girlfriend and I were denied entry to the whale watching tour and had to purchase tickets for the next day. We were promised a refund then ghosted. I purchased tickets for the wrong day. I consider this an honest mistake. I was made...More

Great experience.

I enjoyed Orcas watching twice. First time with kid and second time with the whole family. Both times we saw Orcas. Sadly they are not that comfortable in a harbor anymore. But company ( boat captain) didn't break any rules when approaching Orcas, and turned...More

Promises fulfilled

We had such an exceptional whale watching trip, I've scratched whale watching off my bucket list!! We watched 2 California Orca pods teach their babies how to hunt sea lions. For 45 minutes we were in awe of these beautiful ocean mammals. The Captain and...More

It Doesn't Get Better Than Outer Island!

I've used Outer Island Excursions many times in the past four years. When guests come from out-of-town, whale watching is always high on the list of things they want to do. With Outer Island, you can leave from Anacortes or Orcas Island - we prefer...More
