Roanoke Downtown Food and Cultural Tour
Discover Roanoke’s food, history, architecture and culture on this 3-hour, small-group walking tour. Try up to seven food tastings from local restaurants and specialty food shops. Visit the Hotel Roanoke, one of the top historic hotels in the US, plus Cedars Lebanese Restaurant, the famed Texas Tavern, and the most locally sourced downtown restaurant. Along the way, uncover hidden gems, iconic landmarks, back alleys and the Star City’s colorful history.
What to Expect
This guided historic downtown food and cultural walking tour will visit up to 7 food tasting locations within the colorful and booming downtown Historic District of Roanoke. Delicious samplings, enough for a hearty lunch for most, are served from locally owned eateries and legendary historic locations. Stops include one of the top historic hotels in the U.S., Roanoke’s most recent Lebanese food enterprise, an internationally acclaimed 24/7 “Tavern”, the most “locally sourced” downtown restaurant, a lesson in smoothies, and more. All food and beverage tastings are included in the ticket price.

During and between tastings, you’ll enjoy a glimpse into “The Magic City’s” untamed and wide open early days and how this impacted our local food scene and culture. You’ll learn how the local food scene is repeating historical patterns. And you’ll witness the city’s latest boom. An enthusiastic local guide will share their knowledge and recommendations of architectural gems, local lore, legend, exciting local attractions, and restaurants.

Roanoke is rich in colorful history, culture, and one-of-a-kind culinary treats.  Whether you’re a local or a visitor, you’ll never view Roanoke the same again.

We spent a fantastic Friday afternoon with Becky. We learned about the history of Roanoke while being fed varying types of food. We are not seasoned "foodies" but are definitely opinionated! The three of us loved every restaurant and the history lessons!
