    Comprehensive Museum
We visited the Memorial de Caen as it had been identified as the best World War 2 museum in Normandy. It's certainly comprehensive. There are several sections to it - World War 2, The D-Day Landings, General Richter's underground bunker, Europe Our History, The Cold War, a collection of photographs and the souvenir gardens. We only visited the first four sections and we were there for five hours. I enjoyed it but my wife tired of it reasonably quickly. It's definitely worth a visit though, particularly the World War 2 section as it looks at the lead up to the war and the conditions which contributed to its outbreak. The film, Europe Our History, is very poignant and provides plenty of food for thought.

    Must do!
Anna was the best tour guide to have for this. She provided great details at each of the three points and along the way to them

    Excellent WWII museum
An excellent overall museum, with the focus being on WWII. It's even situated over a large German command bunker used during WWII for command of forces in Normandy - you can visit the bunker as well. Exhibition was very well done as it traced the origins of WWII and provided a lot of info on the war itself and how it affected the region. Be sure to get an audio guide as these provided excellent insight and commentary. There's also a film to be seen - just watch the monitor for when it's showing. Gift shop was great with something for everyone (books in French and English, momentos, toys for kids, etc.). There's also an eatery on the second floor which had a very good food options and allowed for a nice break. Staff were very polite and helpful. On weekdays, you'll encounter lots of school groups, but less so on the weekends.

    The Perfect Gift
Just the most amazing experience. We took my father to see a place he had only seen in cinema. He told me it was a highlight of his life after; just to understand and contextualize everything he thought he know about the war. The driver and the guide were the absolute best and professional across the board. This is the tour yo want to take.

    Fabulous War Museum
The building housing the Caen Memorial Museum consists in an impressive monolithic block with no windows on its front façade. It was erected under the initial design of the architect Jacques Millet. The Museum is dedicated essentially to the history of the twentieth century, more specifically to Second World War, mainly in Europe, about which are most of the items there exhibited and the documents kept in that Museum. It's an overwhelming Museum, the visit thereof is indispensable to learn about the facts leading to the conflagration concerned and about some relevant aspects regarding that War. A large section is devoted, for instance, to the divers individual experiences of the people who suffered the cruelty and absurd reality of war. Another space refers to the D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. The magnificent collections in that Museum allow the visitor to apprehend the Second World War in all its essential features. Albeit the subject matter concerned belongs to the past, it's still close and very relevant inasmuch as it deeply changed the profile of Europe and the world. Some explanations about the German-Soviet Pact of 1979 and its secret protocol providing for the partition of Poland, invaded on September 1st of that year, the refusal of the French to admit defeat by spontaneous acts of resistance and the “cryptology bomb” produced by the British special forces from works made by the Poles and the French, as well as the fact that violence was the very heart of Nazism, among other interesting questions can be obtained in the Museum. All the objects which can be beheld in the Memorial Museum in Caen are of an extreme historical interest. For this reason and on account of what has been said above it is an excellent place to enlarge one's knowledge on the Second World War. The visit to that Museum is therefore highly recommended.

    Exceptional.
This museum is *exceptional* and should without question be the first stop if you are coming to Normandy to expand your understanding of WW II history. I'm sure other reviews go into more detail than I have time to, but plan to spend at least three hours there. I have been to the Holocaust museum in DC and that is excellent but Caen really covers so much more from the treaty of Versailles onward. Bravo Caen! As we went to other museums we found the written information redundant to what we read at Caen and moved through them a little faster just looking at the displays. Note: There is a Bistro but the food is pretty sub par and expensive, so bring your own lunch or go after or before lunch and eat somewhere else. It's that bad. I just mention it so you can plan the length of time you need to spend at the museum without getting hangry. : )

Excellent museum for the Battle of Normandy.
Excellent museum. Extremely informative covering the German occupation, life under the Nazis, D-Day and the Battle for Normandy and beyond. Some Cold War exhibits and info too. Take some good shoes and be prepared, I was there over 4 hours and walked over 3 miles.

    Great afternoon tour
Lovely fine day to visit Utah and. Omaha beaches. Very good knowledgeable guide Mario, and safe helpful driver Norman. The Omaha cemetery is sobering recognizing their sacrifice for freedom.

Trip prior to the landing beaches.
Museum Trip. Informative with an overload of information. Holding and it’s Interior a tad too modern for me. As a glasses wearer some of the plaques weren’t lit well enough for me to read. Steps to car park no rail - would be beneficial to older or infirm visitors.

    Outstanding museum and tour
Museum and memorial were exceptional! We also took the tour to Pont du Hoc, Omaha Beach, and the American Cemetery. Our guide Marie and driver Norman were exemplary!

    A disappointingly generic WWII museum
"Lets build a memorial to WWII" they said. Great idea everyone agreed - but then clearly had no idea what to put inside. This is a generic WWII museum with very little that aids more than a basic understanding of the Second World War. And *everything* is an addition to the already expensive 19,80 euro adult ticket price. Want an audioguide? That costs extra. Want the museum's app? That costs extra. Want to visit the temporary exhibitions (which largely have no relation to the museum's theme or displays anyway)? That costs extra. Amazingly at least there was no extra charge for car parking. For now.

    Great Experience!
This museum in Caen is amazing. For the D-Day guided tour, you meet at the museum and a driver drives you and your tour guide to the Normandie Beaches. Absolutely recommend this experience. Our tour guide was Louis and he was excellent!

    A Realistic Moving Experience
This was a very moving experience. My husband is a veteran of the Vietnam War and both our fathers were stationed in Europe during WWII. The museum is very realistic in depicting the lead up to the D-Day landings all the way to the Nuremberg trials.

    WW2 tour
Wow! Awesome museum and I would totally recommend to anyone and everyone interested in WW2. The museum has an abundance of artefacts and memorabilia, designed in a most fantastic way as you walk around, lots of pictures, videos, cinema shows to aid understanding. It caters for all, young and old. Cafe and restaurant, parking, gardens, all add to its influence. Easily spend all day here and still miss something. Very humbling! Serving Military & veterans do not pay as long as they can show their veterans cards or papers. Also has lockers to stop you carrying heavy bags.

    Very moving experience
You need to allow three hours to do it justice. Superbly laid out, and very informative. It deals not only with the Battle of Normandy and D-Day landings, but also with the events leading up to it from 1914 onwards. There are a lot of very moving first-hand accounts by the local population about life under the Nazi occupation, some of which moved me close to tears. Very highly recommended.

You're up close and personal with the horrors of war and the sounds make it pretty real too. Hang on to the leaning bar as you watch the continuous series of events that was D- Day and the start of the delivery of peace. There are some graphic pics of dead bodies so hold onto the kids. Good value and well put together. Take the free bus right outside the door, to Omaha beach and its remnants of war just lying there.

If you want to only see one 'WW2' battle film; go to this one.
Having been numerous times with school parties, it is a different view every time now I go.

You can spend your time watching just a few screens, or rotate your head and watch all around.

Some new sequences inserted since my last viewing - but still the story remains the same.

Peace to all please.

Reasonably priced and regular showings of the film. We loved the little museum before the cinema - it went through the D-Day landings and liberation of Normandy in a chronological way - so very helpful for the beginning of our visit. The film itself was very clever - showed lots of images and made you feel part of it. I just wish there had been a bit more dialogue to go with it - more veterans speaking about there experiences would have made it even more meaningful.

This was the first thing we did on our tour of Normandy beaches and we really enjoyed it. It was a good introduction and I think did a nice job of not glorifying war. War is a last resort and nasty business for everyone, including the victors.

Big museum that covers the road to WW2, WW2, the Normandy landings, the Cold War, and Berlin during the Cold War. You can al sado visit the underground German bunker on which the museum is built.
Too much to take in all in one visit. Also, lots of reading in small font size. On the other hand: good information, good overview of 20th century history.
We had a combi-ticket with the 360cinema Arromanches and La Cite de la Mer for €124 pp in stead of €137, which is valid until December and allows you to enter the museum several times. And you can use the priority queue😉
My teenage boys as well as my husband and I (History teacher😉) enjoyed the museum!

An outstanding show giving a very sensory experience of the Battle of Normandy. Sculptures outside are an extremely moving depiction of the D-Day landings.

Although I was fortunate enough to have been born 10 years after those dark moments of history, the rest of the family and I were highly impacted by this tremendous cinematic experience. An absolute must for anyone even remotely interested in mid 20th century history and the changes the Battle of Normandy brought about to help end the war. The only downside is inadequate and expensive EUR 7 parking and Gendarmerie that appear to pick on especially foreigners trying to park off road whilst ignoring others - be warned!

No traffic control. Took taxi from Bayeux to Arromaches. Traffic backed up 2-3 miles from dirt parking lot. Took over an hour to get to cinema. Movie is only 20 min and not a methodically narrative. Film restoration amazing.
