About the operator
- Alma J00Awful shuttle.Liars, disorganized, dirty, cramped, overpriced, and so rude it borders on abusive. I was left to wait alone at a dusty gas station in Rivas for over an hour because they forgot me. They had confirmed my reservation for a shuttle and told me a driver would be there with a sign with my name between 10 and 10:30am. I was at the gas station they told me to be at at 9:45 and finally at 10:45 I called to ask if the driver was still coming. I was told I would be called back. After 10 minutes no call. I call back and am told the driver passed by at 10 and didn't see me. A total lie as not only was I there 15 minutes before, I definitely stood out as a pale young woman with a giant backpack in a place where everyone else was a Nicaraguan man. He told me he could send a taxi to take me to Granada and then a shuttle to Leon. I was super disappointed as I specifically chose this company which cost more than the others because their route was direct and would get me there quicker. The taxi wasn't in great condition but it managed to withstand the breakneck speeds the driver was going in order to get me to Granada in time to catch the shuttle. Once we get to Granada the guy at the office tried to over charge me. I finally get on the shuttle which is filthy and cramped with not even enough leg room for me at 5'5 and the driver was the rudest person I've come across in Central America. He tried to avoid dropping me at my hostel which is part of the service and screamed at me in front of everyone when he didn't know where the hostel was even though I was showing it to him on Google maps. I finally got dropped off a block away from my hostel 2 hours later than expected and really rattled from the constant slamming of the breaks he did and the fact that he screamed at me and treated me like garbage. I'd rather he chicken bus over this. Don't give these crooks your money.
- natdmck00Last minute tour of Isla ZapateraWe had a trip already planned and paid for through another tour company, Ora Tours, who canceled our trip 2 days before because they found out the boat was needed for the holy week procession on the lake. Fortunately we were able to book the private tour with Nahual. They were very accommodating however our guide, Julio, did not speak any English. He was very pleasant and did his best to show us the statues and petroglyphs on the island but because of the language barrier it was difficult to understand what he was telling us. He was an excellent boat captain, though. The lake was very rough that day due to the high winds but he was an expert in handling the boat. We were provided with lunch which was a home cooked meal prepared by a local family on the island which was very charming. Not a bad trip overall, just not great.
- 00ShambolicWe paid for an evening tour to see Masaya - an active volcano between Granada and Managua. The reason for the tour setting off in the evening is so you can see sunset views of the volcano and when you reach the top it's dark you get the best views of the lava within the crater of the volcano. We were very excited about this. The tour was supposed to leave at 4.45pm. We arrived and were told to come back at 5pm as there was a problem with the transport. Upon returning we were told there was still a problem so we had to return at 6.30pm (the sun had fully set by this point). The taxi finally arrived at 6.45pm and we set off. About 5 minutes into the journey the driver pulled in to a gas station for 20 minutes then after refuelling we were finally on our way. When we arrived to the entrance the gates were closed (the park entrance shut at 7.30pm; we arrived at exactly that time). The driver managed, after 20 mins of negotiations, to get us access to the site. He sped up the hill and we got out to see the crater. After 4 minutes the guards at the top started flashing their lights and blowing whistles telling everyone that time was up. We got back in the car 6 minutes after getting out and left. We were incredibly disappointed about not being able to spend more time at this geological marvel. The whole time at the top felt rushed and stressful so was not an enjoyable experience. We got back late and returned to the office the next day to talk to them about our experience. We thought we were due a partial refund given the circumstances (we did not at all get the 'tour' we had paid for) but they flat out refused, saying that they do not give refunds. We tried to reason and explain why we were disappointed but were simply told to leave the premises. Strongly advise you go elsewhere. Poorly organised and you have absolutely no recourse when they under deliver.
- Laura W00Do NOT book a "shuttle"!We booked (and pre-paid) for a "shuttle" from Granada to San Jorge/Rivas. What showed up (45 minutes late) was a dilapidated taxi without AC (ok, fine, welcome to the developing world), and without seatbelts! We had a child traveling with us. We should have just had our guest house arrange for a taxi. Very, very disappointed.
- Fabi L00CrooksWe took the shuttle to Monkey Hut from Nahual Tours and asked them at the same time if they could help us book flights to the Corn Islands since we had heard rates were lower when booked by travel companies. BIG MISTAKE! To make a very long story short, they lied to us repeatedly which resulted in us showing up at the airport with no reservations and having to take the next flight which was 2 days later. And to top it all off, they charged our credit card twice and refused to give us a refund (we got our bank involved and in the end got the money back). Beware of dealing with Carlos. He never apologized and was just awful to deal with.
- Kelly L00Mombacho Volcano, Masaya and the Bat Cave, and a ride to the airport - all excellent! We randomly came across Nahual Tours in the square on our first day in Granada. We were looking for a tour operator to take us on a volcano hike the next day, and were originally planning on booking one through our hotel. Alas, once we found Nahual, the choice was clear, we had to go with them. We booked both Mombacho and the Masaya/Bat Cave tours with them. Mombacho was an awesome (although exhausting) experience. And our tour guides, Jose and Samir, provided a lot of knowledge and information about the local flora and fauna and also a lot of jokes and Nicki Minaj singalongs during our hike. The next day we did a sunset hike of Masaya and the bat cave. While Masaya was a little less breathtaking than Mombacho, being there during sunset and seeing the lava steam was a very cool experience. They even provided gas masks for us, in case the sulfur smell was too overwhelming. The bat cave was something that I'm glad I can check off the box, but was a little less than thrilling for someone so scared of creepy crawlers :) Finally, after such great and professional tours, we asked if they did airport transfers, and they gladly dropped us at the airport on our way home. Overall, this tour operator was wonderful and we would definitely recommend them to anyone else visiting Granada!
- fortunehotel00Do not rent bikes from this placeThis company was recommended by Moon guide Nicaragua for bike rental. I rented a bike from them to ride out the Asese peninsula (12km ride from Granada). The bikes are in terrible condition. The brakes hardly worked, the gear shifting did not work, the wheels were bent, the seat was not on tight, and to top it off the tire went flat halfway through the journey. Luckily a guided bike tour was going through and was able to pump up my tire which lasted long enough to save me the hours-long walk back. Maybe they offer nice tours, I don't know, but DON'T rent their bikes.
- Marco G00Thanks to DavidWe did the Mombacho Volcano tour and David was our guide. Not only is he speaking good english (and some german as well) and very professional, but also funny and really giving you interesting information. He never seems to be doing a fixed program, it always feels very spontaneous and flexible. After one minute of walking, he already spotted a sloth and he was also giving us lots of information about the plants around us. It never sounded like out of a theory book, but was always packed in short and funmy stories. Really impressing for a man of his age! I highly recommend the Mombacho tour, especially with David as your guide. Thanks for the interesting day.
- Doug_Doodle00Masaya and the Bat CaveTook the evening tour up Masaya volcano as a late addition to a group of five already going. David, our guide did a great job of providing information and looking after me: That's far enough Lloyd. Stay with the group Lloyd. And Louis (I think), our driver was safe and courteous.
- Girlbubbly00Las IsletasSuper friendly office set me up with a tour with David as my guide. We had a great mix of international and local travellers which made it so fun. If the local Granada people go with this tour it must be great!
- kurtb59500Good Evening Tour of Massaya VolcanoTook 4 of us up Massaya Volcano on Wed., October 21. David is good. After seeing the active craters, you visit some inactive craters with great vistas. The cave has bats, tarantulas, and scorpions, but you need not go in. Could have spent less time (30 minutes instead of 1 hour) at the Massaya market. Also wish he had suggested using the bathrooms there. Bring DEET for the mosquitos, but seeing the active caldera and vistas are worth the trip.
- Danielle M00Great night vulcano tour!Because of low season, many companies didn't want to take me because I was alone. But this company decided to take me, so nice! My tour guide was David, a really nice guy. Really takes the time to show you everything. The van was great (with AC), the driver was driving safely. You get to do a lot on this trip (Masaya market, the Vulcano from different views, the bat cave, and at the end we were lucky to see active lava). Seeing the lava was amazing! The price was very reasonable. Unfortunately I am leaving Granada, otherwise I would have definitely booked another tour with them!
- Steve D00"Mombacho"on a moments noticeI wanted a tour of the volcano,Mombacho on my last day in Granada & the only tour company to help me was Nahual. They went overboard to get me on a last minute tour. David,my guide called a friend who held the truck which takes you up to the volcano. We hurried up to meet the truck in a vehicle of Nahual Tour co. Whew. Once on the volcano,David gave me great tour of Mombacho and the view back to Granada & Lake Nicaragua. Don't waste time. Go straight to Nahual Tours on the Calle La Calzada, near Parque Central in Granada. David did a great job, with a wonderful attitude.
- Jeffrey M00David was greatHad a great tour of Masaya volcano and bat cave with tour guide David. Great guy and awesome scenery. The van was very comfortable and had good air conditioning to cool us down after the hike.
- fonsecas900Did 4 Really great tours with them!My girlfriend and I went and checked out all of the tour places to see who had to offer the most for the best prices. Honestly Nahual tours was the best one. we paid 30 bucks for each of the tours and had a really great experience. David took us to masaya and had a lot of knowledge about the volcano and really great service. We did the 6 hour kayaking tour with Miguel and then probably the best zip lining experience I'll ever do was with nahual as well. Really great place, We both highly recommend it. Some tips: Do the kayaking tour in the morning, canopy zip lining later in the day since you have the shade from the trees and the volcano masaya on a clear day so its not too smoky. they also have a night tour of it where you can actually see the glow from the lava.
