Great tour and so much culture to see in a short period of time! My tour guide was Gerald who reached out ahead of time to confirm pick-up time and location. The tour was tailor made for me to make sure all items in the tour were visited and still allow enough time for my afternoon flight. Thank you to Gerald for making sure everything was organized ahead of time and went smoothly. We visited Granada, Masaya, Catarina and lastly we made a quick stop at the Masaya National Park to get some quick pics of the Volcano crater. I highly recommend this tour because you see so much in such a short period of time and for a such a small price, great value. Lastly, on a personal note Gerald took the time to show me Cerro De Piedra a special small-scale conservation project in Masaya Nicaragua that he is working on... Thank you for the tour and thank you for the wonderful conversation!

My husband and I spent five memorable days in Nicaragua in late January 2023. We were very fortunate to have Gerald Duran as our guide the last three days for our visits to Granada, Lake Nicaragua, the small islands in Lake Nicaragua off the coast of Granada, the Masaya artisan market, and the Masaya Volcano. We also did side trips with him to local flower and produce markets, woodshops, and galleries. Probably the two highpoints were our visit to a locally owned ceramics school and workshop in San Juan de Oriente for a pottery-making demonstration by master potter Lopez, along with a refreshing late afternoon boat trip on Lake Nicaragua after our tour of colonial Grenada. Not only is Gerard very knowledgeable about Nicaraguan history, culture, flora and fauna, but also extremely personable and accommodating. He speaks perfect English, but also clearly articulated Spanish, which we took full advantage of. Mr. Duran has our highest recommendation.

We booked Gerald for a private all-day tour of Granada, the Islets on Lake Nicaragua and Masaya Volcano for a family of four. He was very accommodating and even came to San Juan del Sur to pick us up. We had a terrific day enjoying the sights and learning about Nicaraguan history. Gerald’s English is excellent and we enjoyed hearing about his experiences growing up in Central America. Highly recommend!
Highlights for us were holding the red-eyed tree frog, making pottery, climbing the tower at the Mercy church in Granada, and the boat tour of the islets. We enjoyed the volcano too but next time I would go at night to be able to see the lava more easily.

Gerald was an amazing tour guide. We spent one day exploring Granada, the islands, the masaya market and masaya volcano (sunset and at night).
We were able to see so many places with Gerald and he shared such interesting facts and history about everywhere we went.
We wish we had more time to spend with him and will 100% recommend him to anyone travelling to Nicaragua. He will create custom tours for you so just ask.

I had one day to spend on mainland Nicaragua and reached out to Gerald to book a last minute tour. I had such a wonderful day, it became a highlight of my trip! Gerald was prompt and flexible, and customized the day to what I wanted to see, and he taught me a lot about the history and culture of the Nicaraguan people. We saw main sights (Granada city, Apoyo Lagoon, the Masaya Volcano at night, etc). But we also went to his conservation project to see wild monkeys, and even to a friend’s and family member’s house - a wonderful experience to meet and learn about the local people. Thank you Gerald for a great day and taste of your country!

First time users of Tours by Locals(and to Nicaragua) and it was the best!! Gerald took us to the volcano (which was amazing), around the city (to beautiful and historical places), and to Grenada…but his knowledge and friendship was above and beyond our expectations! We had the best experience seeing how safe and magical and interesting Managua was. We couldn’t have navigated the city or seen so much, without Gerald. He even told us about other places to visit on our next trip to Nicaragua. Thank you sooo much Gerald!!

We spent a full day with Gerald. He was so kind and knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. We especially appreciated his flexibility. For example, he was happy to change the plan when we wanted to stay longer at the market or leave other places earlier that we felt were a bit too touristic for us.
Just tell him what you like and he’ll easily find the right trip for you. Would definitely call him again next time.

What a great custom tour Gerald provided me. I had a short stay in Managua (1.5 days) and we saw so much, the sights of Managua / Granada / Masaya volcano at night / tour of the white cities. He is trustworthy, honest, very knowledgeable and accommodating. Highly recommended 😊

We spent 4 really great days with Gerald D in Nicaragua. He is an excellent tour guide !! Very informative, great sense of humor and made sure our trip was wonderful.
We had never traveled with "Tours by Local" before but would definitely use them again and refer them because of Gerald D.

I have been traveling to many places and Gerald was very knowledgeable, ameaniable and kind to put a tour together. I highly reccomend both Duran Tours and coming to Nicaragua. There is currently negative news about the country however do not let that distract you from coming to the land of volcanoes.
