- G9715YAbrigitted0 contributionsWonderful activity to take part in with stunning viewsMy husband and I did the middle harbour kayaking. What a fantastic experience. Despite the sunrise being behind lots of cloud it was so tranquil out on the water. Shannon was very knowledgeable and patient. We are not experienced kayakers at all. We stopped at the beach and breakfast was set up for us. Coffee, juice, fruit, croissants. Wonderful! Would highly recommend this trip.Written September 26, 2024

Sydney Kayaking Eco tour was excellent, and I would highly recommend. We felt safe and confident crossing the harbor even though most of us were beginners. The picnic morning tea was delightful. Shannon and team shared some really good history insights and we all thoroughly enjoyed the morning. I am planning on doing it again with family and friends.Written September 22, 2024

- adr3560 contributionsExcellent course for beginner paddlersAs someone who used to go kayaking occasionally, many years ago, I went to SHK’s Beginners Course to get a refresher on best practices. This was a really good course, run busy a very adept and knowledgeable instructor, very good at communicating the concepts and practices, and keeping everyone in our group on track despite our wide range of competency. Definitely recommend for people getting started, who want to try it out, or brush up on best practices while out on the water. I’m going to do the Water Safety course next, so I can go out on longer trips with confidence. Thanks SHK - see you again soon!Written June 30, 2024

Activities were clearly explained and demonstrated before we attempted them, and Ben was able to give us lots of individual attention as we practiced. Everything was well organised, the equipment was very good and Ben was an efficient, friendly and patient instructor.Written May 18, 2024

- Chlotoro0 contributionsExcellent 3-hour introductory session with SHKMy husband and I really enjoyed the 3-hour introductory lesson (for cost of kayak hire only). The instructor, Ben, was fantastic - we covered a lot of things and he was very skilled and an excellent instructor, explaining things clearly and watching out for everyone in the group. We are very much beginners, having only enjoyed an Eco-tour with SHK about 7 years ago (which we loved!). We joined because we have elected to kayak an Arctic/Antarctic in the next 12 months and want to have enough skill to enjoy this. We'll be back fur some further tuition!Written March 17, 2024
- 799martinv0 contributionsSydney Harbour at its Best. After a hectic few weeks at work, this was the perfect team activity to de stress and remind ourselves how fortunate we are to live in such an amazing place. Middle harbour was like a mill pond, the ocean was crystal clear and we even had the bonus of an unexpected visit from a sea turtle. Shannon is a great guide and only too happy to share his knowledge, his passion for his job is there for all to see. Thoroughly recommend this activity and the team at Sydney Harbour Kayaks.Written March 2, 2024
- 693katharinem0 contributionsSydney Harbour Kayak : Near perfect tripWhile visiting Australia, my daughter wanted to see Mangroves and my sister suggested we do this via Kayak. Shannon was super enthusiastic about the timing of the trip in terms of the tides (TWO METERS! has now become a family mantra) when we called to book. We went with myself, my partner, my kids - ages 16, 13, 11, my sister and her partner and adult daughter in four double kayaks. Kate was an amazing guide - friendly, helpful, and kayaking at the exact right pace for us. She also took a ton of photos which meant we could leave our phones behind and just be in the moment. We kayaked around/across the harbour and then right into the mangroves and it was just incredible. The riverway felt untouched and unchanged since ancient times and Kate did a wonderful job connecting our experience to the indigenous experience. Also the food spread was fantastic. We were expecting granola bars and drink boxes but it was a real spread along with a hot drink. This was a real highlight of our trip to Australia and I have absolutely no reservations recommending a kayaking tour with Sydney Harbour Kayaks to anyone. I know we got incredibly lucky with the timing but it was just perfect in every way.Written February 20, 2024

I went to the Sat 27/1 Middle Harbor Eco tour by myself. Despite informing the staff my limited kayaking experience and not a strong kayaker (only done this once or twice). I was put in a solo kayak because the other 4 people were a family.
From the start, the guide consistently raced ahead, maintaining 15-25m ahead of the group. This gave the impression of impatience, which raised concern about the purpose of having a guide for safety when they remained so far ahead 90% of the time. The only time the group stayed closed was when we were in the mangroves, and there was limited open water.
Being alone in my kayak, I struggled to keep up constantly, especially as the other participates were paired up. I was expected to be as fast as them and the guide. Throughout the entire journey, I had no opportunity to rest and just flat and enjoy the view.
During river crossing to the opposite side, the guide urged the group to paddle quickly as a group due to potential dangers from passing boats/ships. However, the guide and the double kayakers immediately sped ahead, leaving me behind and struggling once again. This was dangerous and unprofessional. Was it hard to slow down and make sure the group stay together and safe?
Paying for a tour felt futile when I consistently felt stressed, tired and made to feel inadequate with my speed.
I was shouted at to ‘paddle faster!’, ‘put your muscle into it!’ were accompanied by an overall lack of consideration and understanding. While I understand my slow speed was holding the group, this should have been taken into the consideration from the beginning. Eventually, I yelled back ‘it is not the spend, it is my strength!’
What was intended to be an enjoyable trip turned into a nightmare kayaking boo camp.

Hi Whitney,
We are shocked and disappointed to hear this. As will see by our review rating and other reviews, at Sydney Harbour Kayaks we are committed to ensuring our customers have a truly wonderful and safe kayaking experience. Our Eco Tours are conducted in double sea kayaks to ensure that everyone has a buddy to paddle with. It is protocol that our tours paddle closely together as a group and we are disturbed to hear that you were made to feel left out. If a solo padder is not confident to paddle a single we generally will buddy them up with the guide, and do not put solos in a single unless they have experience paddling a single and are keen to do so. We have spoken to the guide to find out why this wasn’t the case for you and it seems that morning our doubles were all allocated to other activities, and you indicated that you were comfortable to go in a single at the time. This obviously seriously impacted your enjoyment of the tour and we will be in touch directly to see how we can make amends to you.

I had a very enjoyable half-day kayaking around Sydney Middle Harbour and highly recommend this tour. Our guide, and kayaking companions, made the experience fun and memorable.
The kayaking around the middle harbour was bracing, our guide's knowledge of the area provided interesting sights and commentary. I especially enjoyed the paddle through the mangroves. I liked how the tour was a mix of faster and slower paced paddling. I had previously joined the Beginners Tour with this provider, though no experience was necessary for this tour, and even managed to get some more tips on my paddling technique and kayaking skills. Morning tea with dip, cheeses, fruit and coffee (on a cold winter's day) was perfect, enjoyed from a scenic vantage point.
Can't wait to join another kayaking tour with this provider.

My boyfriend and I were beginners to kayaking and decided to join the Eco Tour to celebrate our anniversary.
From the start, the customer service was welcoming and put us at ease when we were nervous about kayaking. Our guide, Peter, was essential in making our kayaking trip an incredible and unforgettable experience. He was an encouraging instructor and knew a lot about the history of the harbour, including its wildlife and historical structures. He took his time to tell us stories and answered all our questions.
Moreover, when we got to the small beach to have lunch, Peter pointed out a beautiful waterfall for us to explore. The lunch was healthy, delicious and had more than enough for the three of us.
Afterwards, Peter also took us to the mangroves for a quick tour which was spectacular. We were able to paddle amongst the majestic, old trees. The assistant kayak instructor also took lots of beautiful photos of us during the tour.
At the end of the trip, Shannon emailed us all the photos in a timely manner. We cannot recommend Peter's tour more. It was a wonderful experience for the both of us as beginners. We'll definitely be back again.

So much fun and giggles. Just wanted to thank you for a fabulous morning on the Eco Tour today. We had 8 of our family out on the kayaks celebrating a 60th birthday. Anne Marie was such a great tour guide – very knowledgeable about the local sights and was calm and friendly making the whole experience such an adventure. All the morning tea was delicious and they were happy to provide for gluten free treats.
Highly recommended!

This was a huge success. I gave my son & his family (5 people, visiting from Singapore) this as a Christmas present. We all love nature, & were thrilled to be able to paddle through the mangroves.
Special thanks to Kate for being so thoughtful & accommodating to me, as an 81-year old. And I can recommend this trip on the relatively still water of Middle Harbour for others who have limited ability.

I did it!! How many times have I driven past the Spit and thought of sailing or kayaking. And then NSW send out these vouchers for either dining or an outing. As a first timer in a kayak I had a great time. Our tour guide was very informative about points of interest or local history. Half way he even prepared a lovely morning tea with freshly made plunger coffee.

We really enjoyed the tour. Highlights for us were going into the quiet waterways off Sydney Harbour, kayaking amongst flooded mangroves, seeing a seal basking on a pontoon and seeing all the homes from the water. The rest break included a surprise smorgasbord of fruits and cheese/dip platter, which was so fresh and high quality. Best of all was our tour guide which was full of tips and commentary along the day. This has been something I’ve been wanting to do for years and I am so glad I have done it and would highly recommend

After three trouble-free cancellations due to poor weather, we were so excited to get out on the water and experience our tour. Ann-marie and Paula guided us around Middle harbour, establishing safety and skills, and maintaining a comfortable pace for all, providing great information along the way. It was very special to see these locations in Sydney from the water and with the high tide we were able to travel deep into the mangroves. The delicious and thoughtful morning tea just added to the experience. A very special morning.

The views and seeing another side of Sydney was amazing. Hearing the history of the area very interesting. Angela was a great guide. Lovely group of people on the tour, a lot of fun and laughter.
Found facilities for showering and changing after the tour severely lacking, particularly if travelling from a distance.
