About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- hbhakh0 contributionsGreat tourWe took the BBQ Tour with Harper on a Tuesday afternoon. First of all, Harper is an excellent guide. He sent a message the day before to confirm the meeting location and attached some local recommendations. On the day of the tour, Harper met us as directed, with a giant whisk. He has a great deal of expertise related to Memphis as well as BBQ so his commentary was great throughout the tour. He followed up afterwards with more recommendations. We walked to a number of places around downtown for food samplings, which were substantial. There is a lot of walking (the first was the longest) but the stops are long enough to recover and the segments got shorter as the tour progressed. We enjoyed the food, especially the bbq and gumbo. The stop for fudge was nice as well. This is one of the better food tours that we've taken, and we've taken a lot. It's also nice that this is a family owned/operated business. According to Harper, they are considering a several new tours in the future. We highly recommend this tour and this company.Written April 28, 2024

- sharonsO7409WZ0 contributionsMagnolia PartnersBest part of our tour! Harper and Taylor share much more than great food! They love Memphis…share it well! If you visit once or 85 times, this is a must! Not a more friendly, informative or professional group around. Our tour and yours will be Taylor made (tailor made). As hostess for my group and first time visitor, they even assisted me with so much more. Take your appetite with you and enjoy the tour!Written March 23, 2023

Harper Has special knowledge in the area of BBQ, as he is a certified judge! His upbeat personality made the tour extra fun. We had never been to Memphis so thistour checked more than one box for us. Ne sure to come hungry.Written March 27, 2022
- GinLynn60 contributionsIt’s an absolute MUST!!BBQ Tour. In short, this is a MUST. Amazing food and a fun, friendly local who teaches you the history of the city and the “behind the scenes” facts about the touristy favorites on Beale. This tour will make you appreciate the city so much more. Start your trip by doing this tour, because you will get so many phenomenal recommendations of places to visit while in the area. If you’re even considering this slightly, allow me to tell you, DO IT!! You can thank me later.Written October 25, 2021
- baselnajjar0 contributionsInteresting tour with great BBQWe did the BBQ tour and had a great time learning about the history and culture of Memphis. Harper was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The selection of restaurants provided a good cross section of various styles of Memphis BBQ.Written February 1, 2021

- tracilewis06030 contributionsGreat food and Tour!We did the bbq tour and it was excellent. It was a walking tour and does involve a lot of walking, but it wasn’t too much. We went to multiple restaurants and enjoyed everything placed in front of us! This tour was also very informative of Memphis history. - theblarggVAN0 contributionsBBQ Tour MagnificentI did the BBQ tasting tour on January 15, and although I was the only person booked (don't be spooked, January is off off season for tourism) I had an amazing time. My guide was Harper and he was awesome. Not only did I learn a ton about BBQ and its history, I also got a history lesson about Memphis. My favourite place was Central BBQ. The ribs were incredible and the pulled pork nachos were heavenly. The Blues City Cafe also had outstanding ribs and the best bbq beans I've ever had. PIG on Beale was tasty, as well, but I preferred the other two. If you want an engaging tour in one of America's best food cities, you can't do any better than this.Written January 15, 2020
- Jennga30 contributionsBBQ food tasting tourSuch a great, well-worth, delicious, fun tour. Perfect for visitors of Memphis or locals. Harper was a GREAT guide. So full by the end (actually by Mid-way through). Gained so much knowledge and appreciation for Memphis and BBQ!Written December 15, 2019
- IamCathi20 contributionsMemphis BBQ Tour is well worth it!This tour is a must for anyone new to the city. On this tour we were able to try several different styles of BBQ. Our Tour Guide Harper had excellent knowledge about the restaurants and their process of preparing the food. He also added his own personal experiences when going over the history of the city. This tour was informative and delicious! We circled back to re-visit several of the restaurants on the tour. I am glad we did the tour our first day in town because it helped us to plan the activities and restaurants we wanted to visit. We had a Blast on the tour! We will have to come back just to finish trying the different restaurants, amazing food, & activities. This tour is definitely worth it!!Written November 17, 2019
- Popnzs0 contributionsMemphis BBQ Tour & O' Tappy Day Brewery and Spirits CrawlMy mom and I went to Memphis on a quest for some good BBQ and to celebrate her 79th Birthday because she LOVES good BBQ. We picked Memphis because it has a reputation for good food and even better BBQ. I am so glad we decided to take the 'Tastin Round Town Memphis BBQ Tour' instead of going out on our own like we had planned. The tour began with us walking to three restaurants on Beale Street and then we were transported by van to three BBQ restaurants in other areas. We would never have found or tried the places on our itinerary; not to mention some interesting BBQ dishes at a couple of the restaurants that we never would have tried had we not toured with 'Tastin Round Town.' There were14 people on the tour which we did not expect, but our tour guide, Lance handled it like the pro he is and it was loads of fun. Even with a group this size, the portions were surprisingly larger than expected. We toured and tasted BBQ dishes at six different restaurants, so needless to say, by the end of the tour, we were all quite happy and quite stuffed. More importantly, my mother LOVED it! Like I said, she loves good BBQ.....and Memphis has GREAT BBQ!!! We also took the O' Tappy Day Saturday Brewery and Spirits Crawl which was also with Lance. I am looking forward to my next visit to Memphis and can't wait to take these and other tours with 'Tastin Round Town.' I highly recommend both these tours to anyone who likes good food and GREAT BBQ and great beer.Written November 12, 2019
- OccasionalTraveler220 contributionsTaste of Downtown MemphisAs others have stated, this walking tour was well worth it -- very good to excellent food choices, not too strenuous (even for someone who'd had knee replacement recently...), interesting and on point narrative as we walked and dined. I do differ with those who felt the amount offered was enough to let you skip dinner that night. I wasn't exactly hungry afterwards, but was a little disappointed in the amount provided. Wish it had started earlier in the day (it started at 2 PM); if it had, I would have made dinner reservations for that night for sure. As it was, the start time was a little odd and not conducive to smoothly flowing meals for the day. Having said that, I do recommend this tour and would partake of the others should I make a return visit to Memphis.Written November 9, 2019

My husband and I did the bbq tasting tour. We really loved trying all the different types of barbecue cuisine (including ribs, chicken wings, spaghetti, nachos, pizza, and gumbo!). It did include a fair amount of walking, but the tour had a lot of small stops to learn about the history, the culture, and to get recommendations for other places to go. If you are taking a longer trip, do this early because you’ll find more places you want to go that the tour doesn’t get to. Our tour was a little small, which meant we could really get to know each other. It also lasted a little longer than advertised. The length didn’t bother us at all because it was all fun, interesting, and tasty, but it might be worthwhile to leave yourself some buffer time after the tour (or let the guide know if you’re on a tight schedule).
Overall it was one of our favorite food tours we’ve done. You could really tell that our guide (Harper) knew the city, and it’s cuisine and it’s people well, and that he not only really loves Memphis, but that he loves sharing it with other people!

Taste of Downtown Memphis was fantastic!!! Our guide was Harper and he was a last minute sub for the original guide who fell ill. He was there quickly with a smile on his face and a good story to tell. He is a certified Pit Master and is extremely knowledgeable on local foods, emerging cuisines, and the greater Memphis region. He took us to several famous, local eateries from more high end eateries to the old established best burger and rib joints. It was so much fun! Great food and drink, great conversation with tips on everything from local history, nearby travel, the art scene and exhibits. It is a very enjoyable way to to spend a late afternoon and tap the local heartbeat of this vibrant city. One tip...come very hungry. They feed you plenty. My cousin snacked just before, because he couldn't wait a little longer, and was not able to sample everything. Wait out the hunger and enjoy the tour all the more. Five stars! Thank you Harper and Taylor!

My wife and I really enjoyed our tour with Taylor. He grew up in Memphis and has lived there most of his life. So, in addition to a great food tour, you get a great sense of the history of Memphis.
We booked the BBQ Tastin’ Tour. However, this was changed to The Split Decision Tastin’ Tour once we arrived at the meeting point. This was fine with us. It worked out great in that we were able to visit two great BBQ restaurants along with stops at three other places.
The tour was well paced. We are seniors and had no trouble keeping up. The restaurants visits were not hurried at all. In between stops, Taylor gave us lots information about the city both past and present.
Due to our schedule, we did the tour on our last day in Memphis. If possible, I would suggest booking your tour the first or second day of your trip so that you can get a feel of the city and a sense of where attractions are located.
We highly recommend this tour.

Well, we booked the Taste of Downtown Memphis Tour mainly because my husband was on crutches and could not walk the distance of the BBQ tour.
We arrived with 2 other couples to the meeting point. (Later transpired that 4 of us were on the Downtown tour with Taylor and one other couple were on the BBQ tour with her father).
Unfortunately there had been a personal emergency which transpired in Taylor not arriving and I think her dad tried to make the best of a bad situation. Certainly these unfortunate things happen and my review is not about that per se (and I hope all is now well) but about how it was handled and I hope this review provides constructive feedback to the operators ( Taylor’s dad) for next time.
We were also in the unique situation of my husband being on crutches.
What happened was that Taylor’s father arrived and was visibly annoyed that there were 3 couples when he was expecting 1, and he had a go at my husband for booking the tour and asked “can he walk 4 miles?” when the tour we booked was a considerably shorter distance. He later confirmed that we wouldn’t have to walk that far as we would be sticking to the Beale Street area. He told us all that Taylor was running late and would meet us at the first stop. But first, he took the first couple away for a tasting of something in the lobby and told the rest of us to wait for 15 minutes whilst he did that.
We kept thinking Taylor was joining us shortly and we would start our tour, but without any communication he just took us all on the BBQ tour which involved 4 miles of walking. As we walked further and further away from Beale Street totally confused about what was happening. and my husband was struggling, we had to ask what was going on. The response was “you are on this tour with me now”’. He then made some modifications after we explained that my husband was struggling with the distance of what we are now doing.
In fairness, the stops were great, Taylor’s dad was a nice guy and was very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed the other couples’ company. I can see if you booked the BBQ tour, then you would have had a great time. There is certainly enough food on the tour - you will not go hungry and we would recommend doing this on your first day in Memphis.
I appreciate that it was a stressful for Taylor’s dad, and he tried to make the best of a bad situation. But honesty is always the best policy. If he had been honest at the start that something must have happened (because emergencies do happen and we can all understand that) and asked if we wanted to cancel/refund or change tours then that would have been the right approach (for anyone really, even if they weren’t on crutches and unable to easily walk 4 miles). And when the tour ended, he took a group photo and said he would email this to us along with a list of recommended dining options. We never received this.
It has the makings of a great business model, with some communication improvements when things do go awry. We did have a nice time, but probably would have cancelled if we had been given the option.

WOW, Harper is an incredible and knowledgeable guide. If I could rate this tour 10 stars I would. This tour is a must for everyone wanting to eat, laugh and learn about the Memphis history and did I mention eat the best food you will ever eat?! Harper's knowledge of Memphis blew me away, you could tell he was born and raised here and is so passionate about his city that feels like a big country town. All the food was fresh, hot and delicious. Add this food tour to your to do list in Memphis, best way to spend a few hours and well worth price! Thanks Harper!

Harper, our tour guide, was born and raised in Memphis, and is also a barbecue expert, in fact he both competes in and judges barbecue competitions. The food was amazing and included ribs (of course), wings, BBQ spaghetti (yes it's a thing in Memphis), BBQ nachos, and gumbo. Harper was amazing and the tour included lots of insights and history of Memphis. He gave us tourist tips and restaurant recommendations, we tried one (Flights) and it was one of the best meals we ever had. Highly recommend this tour!

We have done food tours all over the world and this tour has to be one of the best! Harper did a great job providing our group with the history of Memphis, but we also got to eat some amazing BBQ and the delta gumbo was absolutely incredible. Make sure you skip lunch and eat a light breakfast because you are going to eat a lot of food and even meet some friends (goats Molly and Bailey) along the way. If you are going to visit Memphis you need to make sure you take this tour and if you are lucky then you will have a wonderful afternoon with Harper and the amazing food that Memphis has to offer!

We did the Taste of downtown Memphis tour with Taylor. She was very knowledgeable and provided lots of interesting facts about Memphis and some good recommendations for restaurants to try. We were advised to 'come' hungry but if I'm honest we left still feeling hungry. For the cost of the tour we did not think enough food was provided. The hamburger at Dyers was lovely but we were each given a small quarter to eat along with half a cup of milkshake. I realise this is meant to be just a 'taster' rather than a full meal but for the amount we paid sadly we did not feel overall it was good value for money.

We took the BBQ tour this week with Harper as a tour guide. It was a great introduction to Memphis as a city, including its history and many interesting stops on top of the amazing food. We had a family of four with two teenagers, and Harper did a great job keeping everyone interested and informed. The food stops that we made were excellent and Harper was knowledgeable about all of the types of food and the restaurants where we stopped. This was a great way to start our visit to the city!
None of the photos are of food, but of some of the many cool sites/places we saw along the way. This is food AND a downtown Memphis tour, all in one! The best of both worlds.

I took the BBQ TOUR around Memphis w/ Harper and it was absolutely amazing!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Harper. Even though it was a very small tour Harper was very attentive and had so much depth to every single thing we went through. He made the experience memorable, my fiance enjoyed trying so many different versions of barbecue we had never thought about before. And for me, I enjoyed listening to the detail and beautiful history of Memphis... and even if i want to deny it, the ribs he gave us were to die for!! I would recommend to anyone that even thinks of venturing off to Memphis they need to book this tour because Harper gives his wonderful charisma and delicious food to everyone in the tour. Once I go back to Memphis I will definitely book another tour, it was a wonderful memorable experience and worth the price. I will do it again once I am back in Memphis!! Thank you Harper!!

Can you accommodate vegetarians on this tour? We are interested in doing a food tour but don’t want to join if we’ll end up missing most of the meals. Please let me know if there are vegetarian options available.
