- lisapU1203AQ0 contributionsTop Notch Tour to Devil’sTower, Spearfish Canyon, & DeadwoodThis tour company is top notch with excellent communication from the owner. Our tour guide, Al, was fantastic. The tour was customized to our interests and top on our list was to see Devil’s Tower in WY and then swing back through Spearfish Canyon and Deadwood. We got to do all of it and had a fantastic time with Al, who was chock full of information about all of the sites. We learned so much about the sites and Al knew the best places for photos. Al was also quite knowledgeable about Custer and his movements and battles in the area. We had a great lunch at a place in Spearfish Canyon too! I give this company my highest recommendation; you will not be disappointed!Written October 28, 2024
- lisapU1203AQ0 contributionsTop Notch Tour to the BadlandsThis is a top notch tour company! Communication with the company owner is excellent, and our guide, Mark, was phenomenal! Mark tailored the tour to our needs and interests and we had a superb overview of the badlands with this tour. Mark was extremely knowledgeable about wildlife and the geography, of the Badlands. And, he had lots of interesting tidbits to share about the filming of Dances with Wolves which was done in the area. It exceeded our expectations and we are so happy we booked with this company. The views were incredible because Mark knew exactly where to take us for the best shots. He also knew where wildlife might be, and sure enough, we saw lots of buffalo, mule deer and big horn sheep. We also saw a coyote, an animal that is hard to spot, scampering up a hill. We had a fantastic lunch at a local establishment in the Badlands. I give this company my highest recommendation, you will not be disappointed.Written October 28, 2024
- Happiness083822395190 contributionsVacation highlight! The Mickelson bike tour couldn't have been a better experience. The scenery is spectacular. The tour guides give out a lot of information about the area and the history, but most importantly, make it fun! And to top it off, the lunch was no ordinary bag lunch. Above and beyond expectations! A+Written October 26, 2024

- donnasN9842VP0 contributionsGreat Black Hills AdventureMike was very knowledgeable of the history and facts pertaining to Devil’s Tower. We had a great hike around the base of the monument. We saw a herd of Rocky Mountain Goats grazing and leaping across a creek in Spearfish Canyon. It was very exciting to see. Mike helped us look for animals and took us to see the falls. He expertly drove us to all of the best locations in the Northern Black Hills. I would recommend Mike as a tour guide.Written October 6, 2024

My husband and I decided to take a trip to several locations in the USA to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Our first stop was Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. As a teacher, I decided to book a tour so that we could get knowledge of the area and the construction of the giant American sculpture. Karen W. picked us up and gave us water jugs to make sure that we stayed hydrated. She was a ray of sunshine and very personable. She started out in Custer State Park. She suggested that we watch a video about the wildlife in the area. We loved it. She drove all over the park and showed us pronghorn antelope and mule deer. She told us the history of the park and was a never ending source of history. She was very confident in her knowledge and shared all sides of the story. She shared the views of the early explorers and the sacred nature to the native people. She then drove us to the Crazy Horse Monument. She left us in the museum so she could check on the line for lunch. We were amazed at the artifacts and decided to watch a video about the sculptor and his family. She encouraged us to ride the school bus. We stopped often and she encouraged me to take photos of the plants and trees. She knew so much about the native plants. We drove up to Mount Rushmore and she shared knowledge of the sculptor and his techniques. It was an amazing first tour. She set the bar very high for our future tours. You can be sure that I will request Karen W. when we come back next year!

We visited Rapid City in mid-September, and had four tours with Black Hills Adventure tours. Our driver/guide was well informed and friendly. Pace of the tours was excellent, and there were appropriate food and rest room breaks. Their tour of the Battle of Little Bighorn was supurb, and it was my favorite of all that we did. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who is interested in this part of our world.

We finally took our South Dakota trip off the "Bucket List", and Carrie with Black Hills Adventure Tours arranged for our guided tours during this sightseeing event the middle of September. Originally we considered a "Self Guided Tour with Rental Car", but fortunately we discovered Black Hills Adventure Tours and arranged our "Private Sightseeing Tour". Mickey was our assigned tour guide, and she was a real pleasure to be with during our tours. Mickey is retired military and lives in the South Dakota area, providing local knowledge about the attractions surrounding Rapid City, South Dakota.
Day one began with pickup at the Rushmore Hotel for a day of touring the Mt. Rushmore/Crazy Horse/Needles Hwy/Custer State Park areas. Lots of wildlife and we even saw a buffalo herd crossing the parkway!
Day two took us to the Minuteman Missile Silo Historic Site/Badlands National Park and Walls Drug Store. We even had ice cream at the Walls Drug Store after lunch.
Day three we toured Sturgis/Deadwood/Spearfish Canyon and the Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming.
All three tours included van transportation, professional guide, park admission fees, water/snacks and lunch daily at excellent restaurants. Our tours began at 8:30 each morning and ended around 4:30 each afternoon. We highly recommend the Black Hills Adventure Tour company.

I did two private full day tours with Black Hills Adventure Tours in October 2022. (the "Private Black Hills Monument Package and the Spearfish Canyon Tour)
The company is very responsive, knowledgable, professional and a delight to work with! Both days jam packed and great to move at your own pace . Still could have spent more days to take it all in.
Denny was my guide and we had a fun time touring. The amount of info he knows is amazing and such a nice person. Very caring company. Denny suggested I be sure to do "Devils Tower" while in the area and it did not dissapoint. One of my favorites!
I did the Badlands park on my own during the mid day. Got some great photos and saw a few animals but I think the sunset hours would be better.

We chose to do a private tour to maximize time actually experiencing all the area has to offer, while avoiding crowded buses and the floundering companions that comes with them. Our guide, Aura was exceptional, she ensured our tour was a memorable experience. The benefits of this service were well worth the minimal cost especially since, all admissions, snacks, lunch, parking and knowledge of the area are taken care of for you. Black Hills Adventure Tours is our go to guide service on our next trip to the area, with a personal request for Aura!

We just experienced the most enjoyable tour of our lives! If you’re ever in the area of Mt. Rushmore, SD we highly recommend Black Hills Adventure Tours for a private car tour of Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse and the surrounding areas. Ask for “Rose.” She is a native of South Dakota and knows its history topography, hiking trails, and location of the bison. We flew into Denver Airport from So Cal and rented a car on our what to enjoying “Under Canvas” glamping. Rose picked us up in the lobby and returned us to our tent at the end of a very long, fun day. At every stop we got out of the car to explore and learn about the construction of the tunnels, special spots to view the Mt Rushmore monument, the history of Custer State Park, prairie dogs, donkeys an the ever-elusive bison. We are so thankful she continued driving around until we found a group blocking the road as our trip to Yellowstone was cancelled due to the flooding. Rose does it all… if you’re into hiking, she has hiked most of the known and some very secret trails of the area. Again, we can’t recommend this company AND Rose enough.

We highly recommend Black Hills Adventure & our incredible Tour Guide, Rose! From the planning to pickup and drop off at a convenient location, to the well equipped and luxurious Ford Rv van, to the snacks and cold water and Ma Parker’s homemade toffee to the great lunch at a charming local restaurant, to the ice cream treat in a local shop, to the sightings of a huge Bull Buffalo, coyote and the hidden beauty that we glimpsed under a rock while hiking……WOW….where to begin: Topping the list was a hike led by Rose on an off-the-tourist trail with breathtaking views and thrilling heights. Next both Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse came alive with our Tour Guide’s knowledge, anecdotes and information she shared that made the whole experience FUN and educational!!! We explored the countryside both on foot and in air conditioned comfort, and got a kick out of driving through the tunnels! My husband and I and our 11 year old grandsons will never forget this all-day adventure. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience AND we came away with a deeper understanding and appreciation for this hidden gem called South Dakota! We will be back!!

We booked a private day tour through Carrie for our first day in Black Hills. We had booked another private tour for the following day with another tour service. Four days before the tour scheduled for the 2nd day, the tour guide cancelled without any options or explanation. When Carrie found out about this, she worked to provide us a tour for us on the 2nd day on short notice. Both days we had Mickey as our guide. She did an excellent job. It was very informative and packed with a lot of fun and interesting things to experience and see. I can't begin to thank Carrie and Mickey enough for their excellent service. I highly recommend Black Hills Private Tours to everyone.

We had a terrific time in South Dakota!
To our most pleasant surprise, the same person (hi Mark!) that would guide us through the Black Hills was also our go-to greet person at the airport upon arrival. It only took a few minutes to get a feel of what a warm hearted and highly motivated person Mark is. We got a fully immersive experience into this side of the US, by a true local! From small anecdotes to hidden gems, my mother and I were constantly captured by the beauty of the Black Hills and all it has to offer.
We couldn’t recommend Mark more - his endless enthusiasm, expertise and passion made our trip a truly unforgettable experience. Not a second went by where we didn’t feel cared for, looked after or safe. If you’re looking for a reliable, proactive (Mark will help you get the best shot at Mount Rushmore, the many tunnels on Custer State Park and the Wildlife Loop), experienced and passionate local to show you around; then look no further.
We already look forward to coming back and tasting more of Ma Barker’s homemade treats! Thank you again Mark.
