We booked a private 2-hour driving tour of the city as our first introduction to Charleston, as we’ve never been to the city before and thought we could see the sights and decide what we wanted to return to. I am so glad we did!

Jeff delivered on everything we wanted from this: the a/c and seats of the Expedition were far more comfortable than a trolley on a July afternoon, and no part of the tour felt rushed. He was extremely knowledgeable about the architecture and history of the city, including buildings we pointed out and questions we asked, not just those that were part of his tour.It was easy to make conversation with him between destinations and he gave us a deep look at the history of the city, as well as some incredible views of some of Charleston’s most iconic architecture, as well as some much-appreciated restaurant recommendations.

I absolutely recommend using Jeff for your tour, specifically if you are looking for a private tour or it’s your first time in the city.

Anyone looking for a private, informative tour that takes you through all of the areas of the historic districts of Charleston, would love this tour. Jeff was an amazing tour guide that was extremely informative on every building, landmark, and monument that we came across. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking to learn about the amazing history of Charleston!

My significant other and I just finished our private tour of Charleston with Jeff and we highly recommend it! The car was very clean and Jeff was very punctual. COVID-19 measures were taken with all parties wearing masks the whole time. Jeff presents as a historian with the amount of information and history he reported. There’s no way I would have known the history he shared without his tour. You’ll see important buildings, houses, gardens, statues and hear all about their background, such as who originally resided there (important historical figures) and other important tidbits. Two hours fly by because Jeff filled every moment. I recommend starting your stay in Charleston with this private tour because Jeff will make recommendations of activities and places to check out.

We did the morning tour with Jeff and highly recommend it. We were able to see several sights that are unavailable on the carriage tour, such as the Citadel. Also, the benefit of Jeff’s tour is that you are able to cover a lot of territory in 2 hours, since you are traveling in his SUV, and he can tailor it to anything you may want to see. The carriage tours (which we also did and enjoyed) are restricted to city-mandated lottery that determines the route and ultimately what you get to see. So the carriage tour will likely be different each time you go regardless of the tour company you use. But with Jeff you get to see most of the city in air conditioned comfort. If it is your first visit to Charleston we recommend that you do Jeff’s tour first as you will be much more informed about the city’s history and geography before you head out to explore.

This was an awesome tour. Jeff Zimmerman is an amazing historian that takes you all over the city and provides facts and stories about the area, the architecture, and the homes. Definitely recommend this for anyone visiting the area-so nice to do a private tour in an air conditioned vehicle. He is very professional and courteous.

Jeff was on time, a safe driver, knowledgeable in history and architecture associated with Charleston. Our tour covered the downtown areas and some things we remembered from school, but so much more. More details of the pre and post-civil war era, the history of the various cultures that made Charleston a leader in many social justice areas and local knowledge with food and other insights.

We are first time visitors and wanted a good overview of the City of Charleston as we live in California. Please consider Jeff’s services if you want a very good tour and history if Charleston. Thanks again Jeff.

I booked the tour for my wife and I with Jeff for our first morning in Charleston thinking it would be a good way to get our bearings in the city. The tour was an absolute HOME RUN! Jeff was so knowledgeable and easy to talk with. His obvious love for the city, it's history and people were contagious. For the next two days of our trip, my wife's constant comment, no matter who she was speaking to was simply this; "the very best thing we did was the tour with Charleston in a Nutshell". We both enjoyed the entire experience. My own belief is that the tone for our great experience in our visit to Charleston was set by the tour with Jeff. We plan to return to Charleston and we plan to take another tour with Jeff.

Jeff picked us up right on time. His knowledge of the city of Charleston was remarkable! He was very informative, not only relating to the military history of Charleston, but on the architecture of the many homes, buildings and churches. We learned so much from Jeff and he was such a nice guy! If you really want a two hour tour packed with so much interesting information on the history of the city of Charleston, this is the one to take!!

Jeff is very knowledgeable and informative; he pointed out things we would never have noticed on our own. His touring vehicle was very clean and comfy, the pace was not rushed but also not boring, the duration was within my attention span - it was a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

I was the only one of our 3 ladies who had never visited Charleston - but all 3 of us learned SO much during Jeff's private driving tour of this beautiful city. It has such a rich history, and Jeff shared so many interesting and vital details. Granted, we visited when traffic was still quite light so we didn't have as many distractions and delays, but this is definitely the way to see Charleston - from inside an air-conditioned vehicle! We were picked up and returned to our hotel, couldn't have been more convenient. We would fully recommend Jeff without hesitation. Enjoy!
