I took this bus tour with my mom as apart of my 25th b-day trip to Charleston. BT was an awesome tour guide who was born and raised in the city himself! I learned so many fun facts about Charleston and was able to grasp it’s deep history & current culture. And If you don’t really know that much about Charleston, than this tour is a must! Because this experience made me realize how iconic this city truly is! :)

My mother has problems with her knee so I love how we were able to hit up all of these tourist attractions without having to do strenuous walk throughout the city. Also, the large windows still allow you to take some fantastic pictures! So no need to worry!

Keep in mind that there are 3 different tour bus
companies at the same location, so look to see who who your’e booked with. I was late trying to figure that out. The tour guide did give a courtesy call, but I accidentally had my phone volume turned down. So I ended up missing my original booking at 11am, but they were kind enough to schedule me in for the next tour at 1:30pm. But had I checked the ticket that was sent to my email, I would’ve seen that I was scheduled with Adventure Sightseeing. So avoid doing what I did. lol

Another thing to keep in mind is if that your’e in a bus. Therefore you’re in close proximity to others, so I’d keep that in mind if social distancing is a priority to you. While my mom and I are vaccinated, we still wore a mask just to be on the safe side (although it was not a requirement). Also, there are ceiling fans in the bus. But if you’re the type of person who gets overheated easily or if you’re just traveling in hot weather, I’d recommend bringing a personal fan as well (which is what I did).

Overall, it was a 10/10 experience

We considered touring the city with one of the name brand international touring services. Based on reviews here, though, we decided to spend $52 with Adventure Sightseeing for a bus tour of the city combined with a boat tour of the harbor.

We boarded the tour bus at the visitor's center, which was convenient. When you go, be sure to arrive early to get a parking space!!

Our bus driver and tour guide Shawn has an encyclopedic knowledge of Charleston history. He's professional, friendly, and approachable with questions you may think of beyond his very engaging narration. He even gave me some advice on restaurant selection from a local's perspective. The bus is impeccably clean, and the climate control was perfect.

For those who are serious about COVID precautions, masks were required when we went on May 25.

If you want quality touring at a great value, go with Adventure.

Great customer service and a wealth of knowledge in the tour. First we missed our scheduled tour due to weather, the tour operator gladly rescheduled our tour which was great. We arrived at the Visitor Center and it was easy to find pick up location.

Benji was our tour guide and he took us all around Charleston and we learned and really enjoyed our tour.

Heads up you can get off at the end of the tour at the Market Place which we did and shopped a little and then walked down the street to have some oysters.

All in all great value for the money. We typically use Red Bus to tour a new city, but air conditioned tour bus is great in July in Charleston.

We came for one day trip to Charleston, we thought that after seeing viewing in Savannah GA with trolley, this would be nice to see the city and get our tour. We got so disappointed on this tour with a bus! Bus was a hot box!!! The bus had no air conditioning all windows closed and microphone off the guide was so low that I couldn’t hear a thing. I couldn’t see anything from the window not enough view out, the entire time I was focusing how hot it is so I did not hear much off the guide, the guide speech was in one tone and it made several passengers sleepy, overall I would not recommend this tour, you be better off walking or choosing another way to get a tour and have better experience.

Our first introduction to Charleston was the bus tour. It was a nice way to start our visit. The bus was comfortable (not a lot if legroom but still comfy enough), the AC worked well, and the speakers were neither too loud or too quiet. The bus leaves from just outside the Visitor's Center where all the busses gather. We parked in their lot which was a couple of dollars an hour paid via an app that you text. Our tour guide was friendly. The tour itself was just ok. There were too many minutes dedicated to hearing about the hospital and the local college, as well as the Citadel. I actually feel like comparing lengths of what was talked about- these were the lengthiest! I came to Charleston to hear about the history and the architecture and maybe more of an overview. This had small pieces of that but nothing like I was expecting. I feel like we now need to go to a museum to learn about Charleston's history. That said, Charleston is such an architecturally beautiful city and it was enjoyable to watch it in one drive through their large, clean windows.

We took a 1.5 hour city tour with Shawn as our driver guide. Anyone who can drive a bus on the tight streets and provide a informative and entertaining narrative should automatically get 5 stars! Shawn was very knowledgeable and passionate about introducing his guests to his city. I would highly recommend this tour if you want to get a good overview of the city and what you want to
explore more.

The tour itself gives a good overview of the city, especially for first-timers to Charleston. Our tour was on a small bus, which I much prefer, but you need to get there early if your party wants to sit together. My major complaint: the company offers a discount code on their ad page in the current Official Visitors Guide to Charleston. However, online bookings wouldn't accept the code, the phone rep didn't know what I was talking about, the in-person rep said I had to talk to the company and the company acknowledged receiving my complaint but won't call me back. So go enjoy, but don't expect a discount.

Family with a young child, a tween, and a teen, all enjoyed the tour. I was worried that the kids would lose attention because we were in a shuttle and not walking or on the carriage tour, but I shouldn’t have worried. The tour guide was very informative and entertaining. We got to see so much! We drove through College of Charleston, Rainbow Row, Citadel and so much more. We stopped at the City Market and was able to get off to do shopping, then waited at a stop (about 15-20 minutes) for the tour bus to come back through. And considering the heat, I was definitely glad we went with the tour bus option!

The guide was very knowledgeable about Charleston and its history, which was terrific, and deserved a higher than "average" rating. However, the closed in nature of the mini-bus made us feel like we didn't really see the sights he was describing. We opted for the bus tour, instead of a carriage ride because it covered more mileage, and we had limited time in Charleston. In retrospect, we would have learned less, but seen more if we hadn't been so closed in.
