The uninhabited Morris Island makes a nice contrast to the nearby city of Charleston, but Morris Island isn’t easy to get to, as it’s only accessible by boat. This cruise sets sail from Bowens Island and takes you to Morris Island to spend free time exploring it at your own pace before heading back. Be on the lookout for marine life, such as bottlenose dolphins and sea turtles, from the boat.

We had an excellent experience! Captain Dallas was knowledgeable, funny, and personable. He interacted with members of our party of all ages, kept us entertained, and even remembered everyone’s name on the boat! We saw many dolphins, an incredible sunset, and found sand dollars while walking on the beach at the lighthouse. We would not hesitate to go again!

Wow! This should be on everyone's list. Josh was a great tour guide, and the tour is small enough and intimate enough that it doesn't feel too cheesy or over the top at all. We saw dozens of dolphins closer than I have ever gotten to see them on this type tour. The marsh and Morris Island are incredibly beautiful and Bowen's Island is a bonus in and of itself -- particularly if you have the sunset 4:45 tour like we did.

This was an intimate cruise I. A smaller boat carrying 17 people. Josh our guide was great! He was personable, extremely knowledgeable, truly cares about the ecosystem and shares that love as a very professional guide. It was relaxing, engaging, and we saw so much wildlife. I highly recommend this trip if you appreciate nature and want to spend 2.5 hours immersed in the beautiful marsh and beaches or Charleston!

The tour was supposed to be 2.5 hours but because of rainy weather conditions, they finished in 1.15 hour ( we already knew it is gonna rain but they wanted to give it a shot and they said they will do partial refund after it). When we asked about refund amount, they said they will decide after the tour depending on the duration. We were 5 people and paid $270 in total. The trip was very short, they refunded only $50. They should have refunded us half of the tickets since we only went for half of the tour. Moreover, we did not see anything; just two birds and 2 small dolphins. It was really waste of money and will not do again for sure and do not recommend it to others.

Thank you so much to Captain Dalas for a great ride! We saw lots of dolphins on the sunset cruise and got to spent about an hour at the lighthouse. Dalas was so experienced and funny and a great driver. The only downside to the experience is that there are only two, non-air conditioned restrooms on site. There was a very long line to wait before our trip and it was so hot and hard to breathe inside the single stall! Use the restroom before arriving and don’t drink too many fluids before since there is no restroom on the trip either. The trip was the perfect length and would definitely recommend the sunset cruise in the summer to avoid the hottest time of day!

Learning fascinating information about the low country in a boat while watching Dolphins frolicking in the water; what could be better?
Luke, a marine science graduate from RI, was a wealth of knowledge on the skiff ride to and from Morris Island. The low country oyster education alone was worth the trip. We saw over 10 Dolphins and enjoyed the hour on the island walking the beach and looking for cool shells. Although there is sun cover on the boat, I would recommend the morning trip as more comfortable temperature-wise. It carried 16 guests with children wearing life-vests. Recommended!

Have you ever had the feeling, when you booked a certain trip or tour, that something special would come of it? That’s how I felt yesterday when I booked my tour with COA. There was only one slot open for the titled Charleston Marsh Eco Boat Cruise that also stopped at Morris Island Lighthouse. First, the professional.
Upon meeting captain Joey, I knew we, the passengers, were in good hands. His informal demeanor, pleasant and laid-back behavior made it easy to ask him questions throughout our tour. You could sense his passion with nature through his teaching and relaxed knowledge that poured forth unscripted. We saw pods of resident dolphins while he explained the family dynamics, intelligence and much more of these creatures. I learned the importance of the 10,000 plus oysters in the area and their role in the eco-system. Even the beautiful Spartina or cordgrass that was seen throughout our trip, is an important pollution filter.
My head buzzed with so much information as we zoomed along the waterways. Captain Joey showed patience as he waited for the dolphins to move around and away from the boat or when we approached certain waterways. Even with the brown pelicans that hung out in the area, there was something interesting to learn of. But the best moment happened when he had taken us to Morris Island to have free time to collect shells.
Captain Joey was so in tuned to my love of the Morris Island Lighthouse through our conversations of it as well as the two cameras that dangled from my neck, that he went one step further. He offered to take me to a sandbar close enough for me to shoot pictures at a distance from. I felt like a kid on her first field trip! All alone, I gathered numerous shells, some incredibly large, as I made my way to the southern side of the Charleston Harbor entrance. The 161 ft. tall building, the largest lighthouse in South Carolina became close enough to photograph. I felt as though I had my own island; me, the ocean, the lighthouse, the sky above and God. It was the most incredible feeling that will never be repeated. As an author, I gathered information for my next book and as an amateur photographer, I have pictures that will make my heart swell at the sight of them. The kindness and thoughtfulness of Captain Joey is what makes him the coolest guy I’ve ever met!
Conclusion: I highly recommend using Charleston Outdoor Adventures. I plan to try my next challenge, kayaking, with this company.

The folks at Charleston Outdoor Adventures have their act together - from booking to boating it was all smooth sailing. Captain Dallas was knowledgeable about the environs and inhabitants of the marsh — not to mention entertaining. We saw a large number of dolphins, some strand feeding and a pair surfing in our boats wake. It was a wonderful afternoon on the water, not to be missed.

Relaxing tour of some natural waterways and marshlands. Knowledgeable friendly guide. Plus a nice walk on the beach looking for shells. Would recommend to others. Would also recommend shortening the beach walk to spend more time with the guide learning about the unique nature that is in that area. Very enjoyable trip

The boat ride is too long and boring. The boat is very uncomfortable, they pack you in like a sardine and there are no seat cushions for comfort. They offer no bottled water sitting in the sun on the boat after 2 hours plus in the sun, they should provide this for free especially given the cost of the tickets.

The highlight was Ryan the captain. He was knowledgeable, engaging and fun to chat with.
Other than Ryan at the helm, this was a tour that was not memorable at all.

Good morning- We are disappointed you feel like we did not deliver a 5 start experience. Our website & confirmation emails are very clear about the description/length of the tour, the type of vessel (including photos), and that our outdoor experiences offer limited shade so we highly recommend bringing water, sunglasses, hats, etc. (all of which we also sell in our office). We also have a water cooler for free refills if you bring your own vessel. Our tour vessels are similar to many others in the area & we operate at a Coast Guard set capacity for the number of passengers. Lastly, we do offer a shorter 1.5 hour boat tour in addition to the 2.5 hour one you chose to reserve. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your Captain Ryan. In the future we recommend that you book a shorter private tour or consider another business. Best regards, Alex
