Based on reviews here, we decided to spend $52 with Adventure Sightseeing for a ride on the Carolina Belle combined with a bus tour of the city.

The maritime center can be a bit hard to find if you drive (that I can tell, it doesn't face the street, and there's construction around it), so use your GPS to make sure you go to the right place. Allow plenty of time!! If you don't want to drive and park there, you can take the free DASH shuttle from the visitor center or several other transfer points throughout downtown, so find the timetable and map out your trip with time to spare. You can start lining up for the Belle 15 minutes prior to the sail time. There are other harbor tours operating from the same dock, so be sure you know which line to get in.

Our captain was very knowledgeable, personable and engaging. He pointed out a TON of sites on land and sea throughout the 90-minute tour. A couple highlights were passing under the Ravenel bridge and getting a great look at the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier from the water.

We sat inside to revel in the air conditioning on a super hot Charleston day. There was plenty of room to distance, and the view out the windows was good.

If you want quality touring at a great value, go with Adventure.

For the 5 pm sunset tour we got a text telling us to be there at 430 to check in. A bunch of us were good little rule followers, and when we got there we were told the boat would be docking at 5 and we would leave at 5:15. So at 5:30 we were standing in line in the sun while a staff photographer made her way down the long line taking photos of everyone to sell us later for $28. If you want to leave at 530, fine, but dont tell me to be there at 430!
Once we were on the water it was awesome, though. Good commentary on everything we were seeing from the captain, a beautiful evening in the harbor, even spotted a couple dolphins. Total trip time was 90 minutes cause we left late.
Try to get on near the front of the line and sit on the right side rail as you face forward for best views.

We really enjoyed our boat tour, only on our night it wasn't the Carolina Belle, but another nice ship. I would highly recommend this experience to visitors to Charleston. A few observations that might help if you are considering going. The location where you board was kind of out of the way of any convenient parking, and I have an injured ankle, so we took an uber here, which we pre-arranged both the drop off and pick up for our Uber. for early arrivals for the sunset cruise, there was a shady area with some benches to wait the hour before the boat leaves. I noticed several people in addition to myself who were injured and either had walkers, in orthopedic boots, canes, etc. But at some point way too early in my opinion, a young man came out and asked us to "line up" to get on the boat. I think the boat tour was to start at 7:00 pm and we were asked to line up maybe at 6:15-20? So then we all had to stand in line in the hot sun. I ended up having to just sit down on the concrete because I simply could not stand so long with my injury. I thought making people do this was kind of dumb and instead they should add more seating and allow the people to wait longer before "lining up". I would advise getting there early to get on the boat earlier rather than later. We got a good seat on the open part in the middle area (of course we weren't on the regular boat, the Carolina Princess, so I'm not sure how that was configured). But we noticed virtually everyone who got on headed up to the highest part which was uncovered; only, there weren't hardly any seats up there and it got crowded so inevitably those same people would come tromping back down. I wonder why the boat company doesn't just put more chairs up there since that's where most people seem to want to be? Also, there is some interesting narrative but our guide kind of had a casual slurred (not drunk) type speech and I wish the narration had been a little louder and more distinct speech to better hear what he was saying. We sat on the same "floor" that the ramp takes you to, which was great, but when I asked about the restroom someone told me it was down the stairs and I didn't want to navigate those steps. But that is likely not the case on the regular boat. At any rate, this was a great wonderful evening, very lovely, and I highly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to do it again .

Mrs. M and I were looking forward to the harbor cruise on their cool ship, the Carolina Belle. When we arrived we saw a typical warnout dinner cruise ship tied to the dock. Boarding was delayed and when we finally got on we were told that the Carolina Belle was having some work done and would be unavailable. We could live with that but after a half hour of being tied to the dock we were informed that they were waiting for some safety equipment and we would be delayed another 45 minutes until it arrived. Funny that they seemed to be prepared to sell drinks and snacks. There was no announcement to abandon ship but we did anyway. Beware.

We were lucky enough to go on a beautiful, sunny day, and it made the view even more picturesque. The boat has two levels; you can choose between fresh air on deck, or an air-conditioned lower level. There were plenty of chairs on both levels. The bar served alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks and had a selection of snacks. The staff was very friendly and the captain’s narration was as interesting as it was funny. There were trivia questions to answer to win free drinks as well. Seeing Fort Sumpter and the USS Yorktown and learning some of the interesting history was well worth the price. Overall, I’d say don’t miss the chance to spend a couple of hours learning some history and catching some beautiful scenery.

The boat was very hot and when we attempted to open the door at the front of the boat, the worked shut it because it was blowing around their napkins at the snack bar. Speaking of snacks, the website mentioned hotdogs and hamburgers but there were only chips and crackers. They also took our picture before boarding and then came around and asked for $30 for the picture. Then when unboarding the worker who shut the door to keep the air from circulating stood but the ramp with a tip basket. Very disappointed in how unprofessional it was. Take a tip and don't do this trip.

The Captain and crew were great. The tour was very informative and this was a nice way to see the harbor while sitting down after a long day of walking around the city. However, the snacks are RIDICULOUSLY expensive ($3.25 for a 50 cent bag of chips and $12 for a bottle of beer), which is a big bummer for families with hungry kids. The deck isn't that spacious either, so moving around is just not practical while underway. I would do this again with an adult group, but I think I would skip it if I was traveling with little ones, though the Captain did let them steer the boat for a little bit, so that was cool.

I wish I could comment on the actual cruise, but unfortunately due to shortage of Uber/Lyft drivers in Charleston I wasn’t able to make it. We couldn’t find a driver or taxi to take from the airport to the harbor. I called the Charleston Harbor Sunset Boat Cruise in advance to explain the situation and see what options we could do. We’re tourist and didn’t know there was an issue getting around from the airport to downtown. The person on the phone said to get here by 630pm. I explained the situation with the delay in finding a driver. Once we had a driver I explain we’re arrive late by few minutes, the person the phone said no to waiting, no to moving our tour to another day and hung up. I’m disappointed in the lack of empathy, problem solving, and customer service. I’m on vacation and booked my tour in advance. Had I known there was lack of drivers in the area I would have just waited to book a tour. The gentleman could have gave us a credit/voucher to go on a tour another time or done something to accommodate since we were trying to be proactive. This left a bad taste in my mouth and the lack of customer service and empathy shown, I wouldn’t recommend booking in advance or the tour.

Loved every minute of this wonderful sunset sail. From our wonderful Captain Andrew, whose sense of humor is outstanding, to Santino who kept us informed, entertained and was a delight to speak with to Jackson, who hoisted the sails and worked the other side of the boat, we couldn't have asked for a better final evening in Charleston. Our party of four most highly recommends this sunset sail as it will likely be the most memorable and enjoyable experience in this extraordinarily beautiful city. Thanks to Andrew, Santino and Lawrence for a beautiful sail and these happy memories.

We scheduled an 11:30 tour, however, a week prior they called to change it to 10:30 or 12:30. Since we had other plans before and after I chose the 10:30 but let them know we would be getting there on time, not early. Boy was it good we are all able bodied to stand the whole time as they did not even have enough seats for everyone! You moved my time and don’t have enough seats? Seriously. Otherwise it was ok.
