Went on this tour with my two 20-something daughters and our tour guide was Faith. Faith was very accommodating and knowledgeable. I was very full at the end of the tour but understand some other reviewers’ critiques pointing out that some of the stops were very small snacks. Overall, you get MORE THAN ENOUGH food on this tour, but the way it’s distributed is very unbalanced. Faith explained that the restaurants visited and their order varies on each trip. Of our 5 stops, two were very small snacks (one candy and the other was a spice shop) the other three were a counter service restaurant attached to a hotel and two popular restaurants located near the Market. At the two restaurants we were given options to order additional drinks (at additional cost) but this was clearly explained and there was no pressure from the restaurant to do so. Anyone could enjoy this tour~families with young children, couples, or a group of friends.

We had a blast on our tasting tour with Faith yesterday. We all agreed it was really fun to sample different types of foods we might not have normally ordered in the restaurants we visited. Faith was very knowledgeable and energetic, but made sure everyone in the group could hear her at each stop. I thought the length of time was just right and it was nice that after the last stop she offered to help guide each of us to our next destination rather than making the whole group return to the tour office/ meeting point. It was a fun way to spend a few hours. It’s not inexpensive but I felt the price wasn’t unreasonable for the high quality of the food and the tour.

Excellent food tour. We had Faith as our tour guide and she was excellent. It was a rainy day, and she still made it exciting and energized; answered all our questions, even those unrelated to food! We learned some good tidbits and ate some good stuff! She also made sure everyone on the tour can hear her, or the other tourists so that we didn't miss a thing.

Restaurants chosen for our tour were also great. It was a bit of everything (seafood, snacks, sweets, and more!).

We have done a lot of food tours and I think this is one of the best we have done. First, Faith did an excellent job explaining the food we were tasting as well as the history of the food and the history of the area. The food samples were diverse and gave us a good sampling of different southern cuisine. We had shrimp and grits, a beignet, hush puppy, beignet, cornbread, pulled pork, collards and more. Not everywhere had the best food (beignet was disappointing) but everywhere was good and gave us a good food overview of the area. The hush puppy was exceptional! Also don’t eat ahead of time as you get a lot of food. Bathrooms at almost every stop was wonderful as many tours don’t consider that. If you want to order alcohol which is an additional cost, I recommend waiting until the last stop or two at the first place you won’t really have time to drink it. Faith did a phenomenal job and provided us with a lot of info. I would recommend you request her if possible as your tour guide.

My family visited Charleston for the first time this month, and signed up for the Savor the Flavors Walking Food Tour with the hope of tasting true low-country food. Based on the description of the tour, we would be sampling many dishes that are true to the Charleston area, and not something we would be able to find on the west coast. We were disappointed when we learned that the majority of the locations that we would be visiting would not include the advertised dishes. In all, we stopped at 4 location. At the first we sampled sweet tea and benne wafers. The second we sampled pimento cheese and she-crab soup. The third we sampled mussels and truffle fries. And the final location was a bakery where we had some sort of cake. Yes, a few of the items were traditional low-country items, but we had high hopes that they would all be that way. According to our tour guide, the locations they stop at depends on whether or not the restaurant can accommodate a tour group at that time, so their selection of locations can change during the year. My suggestion would be to contact the company and see if they can provide you with the menu of foods that they will be sampling at the time of your visit.

Even though we were disappointed with the food, our tour guide was a great source of information and made the tour interesting. We learned a lot about the food, as well as Charleston history.

Chef Forrest was exceptional tour guide on the walking tour with historical facts and was very engaging and entertaining throughout the tour and with the cooking demonstration. The food was fantastic. This tour was the highlight of my first visit to Charleston. One couple on my tour had taken the tour several years ago and came back a second time with her sibling and spouse as well as her parents for a 50th wedding anniversary trip. That is great testament to loyal fans of this tour.

As far as food tours go I would say this was "ok." We have done food tours in the past, come hungry and left stuffed so we skipped lunch but I wish we hadn't. The way it was organized our first stop was to a location where there were four different items (3 of each) and 12 of us. So it was basically a free for all of what item you got to sample, which we felt was an awkward start. Also, we went to a Tea and Spice store and got minuscule portion sizes of some crackers and popcorn. When people go to a town to learn more about the unique food of the region, I would not recommend taking them to any stop that has "over 60 locations in That is not what we paid quite a bit of money for. That being said, our guide was very informative and knowledgeable of the history of the area so we enjoyed parts of it. Would I do this tour again though; no. Would I recommend this particular tour to someone travelling to Charleston; no. I would probably say try a different one!

We joined Bulldog Tours' downtown Charleston food tour with one other couple on June 27. Our tour guide Faith could not have been better. She was so relaxed and personable, and kept us engaged the entire time with an abundance of information about the dishes and how they tied into Charleston's history. She simply had such a wealth of both historical and contemporary information about the city and its culture, and shared so freely and enthusiastically that there was never a low point in the entire tour. It was really fascinating. It was also amazing to see the easygoing relationship that Bulldog Tours clearly has with each of the restaurants (and one spice shop) on the tour. Incredibly well-organized, with delicious authentic food that always had a story behind it. The tour stayed within a few blocks in the downtown area, so it was not strenuous walking at all. Faith made the experience so welcoming, pleasant and informative. We also did the Upper King Street food tour with Bulldog Tours during our visit (our guide was Zach, so we can confirm that Bulldog Tours is the way to go for your Charleston food tours...two five star reviews.

First off, we did the food tour with Jack and he was fantastic; He was a great host, patient and we learned a lot from him. We often take food tours in a new city as a way to learn the locals favorite eateries while learning the history of the area. He also did not rush us and we appreciated the extra time to fully appreciate and rest at the dining stops.

Our biggest disappointment was in the first 2 stops; being they were franchised retailers/eateries that our entire group of 8 had either been to in other cities in the US, or in the case of Spice Tea Exchange, half of us have this store in our hometown. We recognize this location had a few local blends specific to this area; but in general the ambiance of starting a costly tour with not one but 2 establishments that were not unique/ local to the Charleston food scene was a bummer.

The remaining stops were amazing; and in alignment with our expectations of this tour introducing us to the hometown food scene

Lastly, we walked much further than the approx one mile as listed in the FAQ section of their website

The customer service we experienced with Bulldog Tours is the entire reason for this rating. They could not have been more accommodating. This is a company that knows how to treat people, bar none.

SCENARIO
We (4 adults) visited in the midst of Covid-19. Our tour with Franny wound up being private. We thought the tour would visit restaurants that weren't open to the public, but the first stop was where it ended. We were uncomfortable dining indoors due to the pandemic. The first stop was not only indoors, it was also unimpressive and active with many guests. We expressed our concerns to Franny and she immediately brought us back to the tour office where the manager promptly refunded us every dollar we paid. This is a company that understands reputation and integrity.

RESTAURANT
The first and only stop was Another Broken Egg Cafe, a chain restaurant (80 other locations). There's the rub. We paid for a culinary tour of one of the nation's greatest food cities with dozens of incredible restaurants (many of which boast James Beard-nominated chefs) and the first stop was a chain breakfast restaurant. An unremarkable and insignificant place you can visit in any of a few dozen other cities, such as the bustling metropolis of Ridgeland, MS.

CONCLUSION
I would never sway anyone from doing business with Bulldog Tours. They are a company with integrity and that counts for a lot. However, if you're looking for a real insider's culinary tour of Charleston, keep looking. This is NOT it.

We are very sorry that the culinary tour was not what you expected; however, we are pleased that you found the customer service to be accommodating. It is something we strive for here at Bulldog Tours. We are proud to support all of our food tour partners, especially during a pandemic, as all of them employ local workers. While Another Broken Egg is a chain restaurant, our location uses locally sourced and grown ingredients. Had you completed the tour, you would have experienced local bbq and seafood all owned by long-time Charlestonians. Again, sorry the culinary tour was not as expected but we are happy to know that the customer service from our staff was able to make up for the misunderstanding of what the tour would offer. We hope to see you on another tour the next time you are in Charleston.
