About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Texarkansa0 contributionsGreat Cultural experienceThe best part was learning so much of the Amish customs from a local who has lived here 40 years. He has friends with several Amish families so his insights were great. Ice cream was good. Not many sights but good traveling thru Amish countryside and understanding the use of their buildings. Great experience.Written October 9, 2024
- P348VGharryh0 contributionsAn eye opening look at the Amish culture and lifestyle. My wife and I took this tour on a Tuesday in early October. This was a good time to go since there was only one other couple on the tour. The staff at the visitor center and the tour guide were very friendly and informative. We were in and out of the tour bus for a little over three hours, and the bus was comfortable. There were multiple stops at Amish farms or businesses along the way. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the Amish way of life and thoroughly answered all questions. The ice cream was very good. Got to meet some young Amish kids at some of the stops. It would have been a better tour if we could have met and had the opportunity to speak with some of the adults. Would recommend this tour for anyone that isn't already familar with the Amish culture. A good value. Time well spent.Written October 7, 2024

- R4070PJjessicad0 contributionsWonderful tourDuring the tour, I learned a lot about the Amish culture, including more than just their traditional horse and buggy. I enjoyed meeting the locals, buying fresh fruits and treats from the roadside vendors, and indulging in delicious ice cream. Our tour guide, Mike, was incredibly knowledgeable and made sure we got to see all the horses. He also provided us with extensive information about the area. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable and informative experience, and I would definitely recommend this tour.Written September 10, 2024
- RobGallup0 contributionsBest tour ever. This was one of the best tours I have been on. We didn’t hit any of the “tourist attractions”. We visited local Amish families and farms. The guide was super knowledgeable. Amazing.Written September 5, 2024
- Dhorton1010 contributionsHighly recommendExcellent tour! Dale was our tour director & he was very well informed on all things in the area. He was very personable & prompt and made the tour a most enjoyable experience. I would suggest taking the 8:30 a.m. tour as they are generally less crowded.Written August 21, 2024
- thatjanetlambert0 contributionsA Must-Do in Lacaster!Dale knew his stuff! Wow! Former history teacher, farm hand, and having been brought up in the Lancaster area gave his credibility and anecdotes something special! Loved this tour--it was really, really good. My recommendation is to offer it as well as the food tour together as a whole day. I didn't want it to end--I felt like we were just getting started.Written August 21, 2024
- RoyalsFan600 contributionsVery enjoyable and informative tour !The Amish Immersion Experience was very enjoyable and informative. Our tour guide (also the owner of the tour company) was very well-informed about the Amish customs and history from having lived in the area for 50+ years. He’s established connections and relationships with several Amish families, enabling the tour to visit homes and businesses not usually available for most people to see. It was interesting getting to visit with several of the Amish people we met. The lad who made the bird houses, the ice cream stop, the working dairy farm, and the location used in the movie “Witness” were all very enjoyable to see. I would recommend using the ear piece that is offered during the tour, to make it easier to hear the information that’s given by the tour guide. A highly-recommended three hour tour !Written August 18, 2024
- charleswG6362GK0 contributionsOff the beaten pathThis was a fantastic tour! Our guide, Mike, was very informative and a very good narrator!!! We really enjoyed all the personal stops at different family homes and the interaction with the children. I bought a birdhouse handmade by a 12 year old young man and and had a wonderful conversation with him. He was the most polite and well mannered young man with a warm smile. Thank you Mike for a wonderful afternoon!!Written August 13, 2024
- KayH10290 contributionsUnique Amish ExperienceMike was a great guide. Very personable and knowledgeable. His relationship with the families we visited on the tour made the experience a delight. We’ll be back for another tour.Written August 10, 2024

Before the tour, Annamarie who is Phil’s wife, went out of her way to arrange a dinner for us with an Amish family, even though they didn’t have any scheduled that day. She was very kind and communicative!
Phil took us on the Experience Tour, he was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the Amish people, having grown up in the Lancaster county himself. He showed us around to all of the most important sights in the Lancaster town first, before showing us around the countryside where the Amish live. In a short period of time he showed us many places, many of which we wouldn’t have known about without his guidance.
He even bought us some delicious home made ice cream which was just so delicious! And we went to an Amish home where the young boy made his own bird houses!
After the Experience tour we then went on a second tour with Mike to have dinner with the Amish family. Mike had a lot of insider knowledge which was very informative and interesting. We had a meal at Sarah’s home, who is an Amish farmer. The meal was made from produce that their family had grown themselves, the flavour was amazing and the food was very fresh. Sarah even played the harmonica which was absolutely delightful!
All of this was only possible because their team are all locals who have grown up in the area, and they’ve won the respect of a lot of the Amish people who we visited. I admire the fact that they’ve grown their business with a spirit of kindness and integrity. I’m so glad we went on their tour instead of the other ones which just seemed a lot more touristy. This tour was 100% authentic, and deserved a positive review!

Omg! When we booked our tour, we were apprehensive as we've never done anything like this before. Our tour guide, Dale, was a wealth of knowledge about the area And the heritage of the folks that lived there. We then went for a meal, Sarah had an incredible meal planned and EVERYTHING was amazing. Another lady was supposed to host, but hurt her back that morning, so Sarah stepped in and made a complete meal for our group (12 people), including homemade breads, with a 2 hour period. It was meatloaf, and was delicious. On the way back, Dale gave us more information. What a great tour! Money VERY well spent!!!

The tour met at the Lancaster information building that had plenty of safe parking. While waiting to embark, the visitor center had a lot of information plus art work by members of the community. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The group of 11 visitors easily fit into a comfortable van, Our host Sarah made a wonderful meal. I was able to purchase a jar of her home made pickles to bring home

My husband and I went on this tour last week. To make it covid safe, we drove our car and connected with Mike's phone via our Bluetooth. He took us on a short drive through some of the highlights of Lancaster on our way to Sarah's house for lunch.
We were greeted by our hostess and a spread for a king. She made the best fried chicken I have ever had. Delicious meatloaf, mashed potatoes, vegetables, homemade bread, apple pie and ice cream. Sarah and Mike ate with us and Sarah answered many questions about Amish life.
As indicated in other reviews, she did play the harmonica for us and is quite talented. They have a small farm and apparently in better weather, she has a massive garden.
We would definitely do this for again. Sarah was a wonderful hostess and Mike was a terrific tour guide.

Our trip was quite a nice one. We met at the Lancaster Visitor Center which in itself is very pleasant as it was cozy, and the folks inside were helpful with just showing what's inside; you can tell there was love and care in setting this visitor center up. The driver for the tour met with us at the visitor center entrance and when it was time to leave, we entered the van and the tour began. We rode through vast farmland, crops of many types, and the guide explained what each were along with the architecture types on each property, indicating how each home varies by generation.
Once we arrived at the property, the Amish host, Emma welcomed us inside. She had three children and they were very respectful and pleasant. The meal provided to us was enormous and delicious. We ate for maybe 35 minutes and we were given a tour of the property by the kids themselves. They had rabbits, a horse, dogs, chickens, name it.
It was quite enjoyable. Something we never thought we would experience first hand. I would recommend it as it really gives one a chance to experience different ways of life.

Allow time for questions while on the bus. Bus needed a better step down system for entering and exiting the bus. We inderstood that the step was back ordered. So there were several persons who had difficulty with especially exiting. rent another bus until yours id fully functional or provide a warning about the difficulty

Thank you for your feedback. In response to your review, I would like to say that questions are always permitted while on the drive. Our guides are always willing to take and answer them. The van is fully functional but does have a bit of a high step into the side passenger entrance, which is why we always use a stool for passengers to have 2 steps in instead of one. That said, we take your comments seriously and have added an additional note to the description on this platform alerting potential guests who may have difficulty with the step up and down that this experience might not be appropriate for them.

Dale is the historian par excellence! We were feted to Amish history and the history of Pennsylvania which he delivered in an exciting and animated fashion that was thoroughly entertaining and informative. In fact, we met and interacted with an Amish couple who invited us into their home, and found that everything Dale told us about these people is absolutely and surprisingly true! Dale is a walking, talking encyclopedia on the Amish and Pennsylvania! What a teacher! We will NEVER forget our lessons!!!

Everything was our favorite. There was not one thing . Every part was wonderful. The food was delicious and well prepared by the family. This family was so hospitable and welcoming into their home. As a bonus, the girls sang beautifully and their mom played the harmonica. This was a memorable experience.

My sister is a middle school history teacher and wanted to tour historical cities to add real life content to her class. We came to Philadelphia as the second city on her list and were devastated by the horrible conditions in the city. Spending a day in Lancaster learning about the Amish way of life was my one big request for our trip and we are both so happy we did this. The Amish way of life is such a huge contrast to what we experienced in the city, and something to be respected.
Our guide was exceptional! She grew up in Lancaster and lived among Amish and English her whole life. She had been giving tours of Lancaster for 11 years and her knowledge about, and respect for, Amish culture was exceptional. She provides a lot of information along the drive to and from the Amish property.
Our host family were open and friendly. Their adorable son, Marvin, greeted us outside and escorted us into a lovely building set up for hosting English visitors for a meal. Barbie prepared an amazing meal of pickled cucumbers, pickled beats, home made peanut butter and jams, along with fresh baked rolls, salad with a delicious dressing, baked chicken thighs, meatballs, noodles and the most delicious creamed corn I have ever had. For dessert we were served fresh home made vanilla ice cream and brownies. I am a foodie and I can confidently say this was by far the best meal we had on our entire trip to Pennsylvania. Aaron, Barbie and several of their children dined with us and spoke to us about their lives and answered all of our questions. Aaron and the children helped serve food and clean up. After the meal, he and the children showed us around the property, and then we had an opportunity to purchase quilts, microwave bowl holders, plastic bag holders, and much more. Many of these same items were available at the Lancaster Visitor's Center, but we wanted to support our host family and buy directly from them. Bring cash!
From beginning to end, this tour was top notch! I highly recommend an Authentic Tour & Meal with the Amish!

Hello I am planning to take my 84 year old Mom on a little vacation. She loves the Amish country. She walks with a walker and cannot do steps very well so wondering about the vehicle for the tour. We would love to do the meal. THANK YOU

I'm sorry I just saw this. You actually meet up with the vehicle guiding you and you listen/ communicate through your radio. Loved it. This can be done with a mom and her walker. :) It was a wonderful trip. Let them know beforehand that mom has a walker.

Know that this is , of course, a very " throw back in time" rooms that you are getting, very " 60's" in appearance, but looked like it had plenty of any NEEDS you may need, homemade quilts on beds, full small kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bath, small living room, all right there on her property in a separate building from her home, over her garage if I remember correctly, so there are stairs. She was a terrific cook so should be a delicious breakfast, and I believe she said you can also have dinner for an additional " donation" if you choose.

We had lunch on this tour. The food was fantastic and in abundance. As the day was heavily raining we did not tour the gardens/farm, however the Amish hostess entertained us with her harmonica playing, singing and a sing along. She was extremely talented; her singing was beautiful. It was a lovely experience.

Hi, I want to know how accessible this tour is. I walk with forearm crutches and have difficulty doing steps that are higher than six inches. Is the tour all from inside a vehicle or is walking involved? What kind of vehicles are used and are they accessible? Thanks for the help! Connie E
Written June 5, 2019
Hi Connie, We were picked up at our hotel in a Van which was easy to enter and exit. We drove to different locations but exiting the van and walking around was not required. The highlight was the dinner so the sites we saw were along the way to the home where we had dinner. The home was not difficult to access and I do not recall multiple stairs..
