Stop At: Mount St. Helens, WA 98649

Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Portland by 8:00am. You'll drive a little over an hour in our vehicle to your first stop in Mt. St. Helens National Monument, with a short hike through a lava impacted forest (or wetland lake depending on season).
Visit a number of other sites (itinerary changes based on season and weather), which can include views of the cratered top of the mountain, forests both old and new growth, mudflow plains, waterfalls and huckleberry bushes. You will stop for lunch and beverages, and we provide snacks and bottled water.
The stops of the day will be determined by weather and your group's desires and fitness levels; we have something for everything and remember, the best view of the mountain is always with it beneath your feet.
Your professional guide will provide naturalist commentary throughout the day. You'll be returned to your hotel at the end of the journey.

My tour was originally canceled due to the number of people signed up. Marcus came to my rescue and made it happen. He picked me up at the hotel in the morning and even took me straight to the airport at the end. There were...More

Leah, thanks for being so easygoing and enthusiastic about the geology! It's always gratifying when people want to know the story behind what they're seeing. And thanks for the vote of confidence!

Warning- this is a very long day. Marcus picked us up around 8 and we were off to Mt St Helens first. I was in the downtown area of Portland so it's a very long drive up to Mt St Helens. Luckily, Marcus is outgoing...More

Wow! What a day... Mt. St. Helens has so much to offer. It's not just a pretty view of a mountain on this trip, it's crawling through lava tunnels, scrambling over rocks in a cave, and admiring the ability of plants to regrow a forest....More

Did this trip with Marcus yesterday and saw some amazing views of the mountain and the stunning scenery along the route. Marcus is incredibly knowledge on the history of the 1980 eruption and the local plant life too. This is a really amazing experience. The...More

It was a pleasure taking to two of you out! Hard to reduce the length of the trip, given how windy and slow the roads are around MSH, but when it's a single group, we can always customize as requested. And, you're very right, this...More

We hiked around 5-6 miles throughout the whole day with the longest stretch being 2.5. We did pick to do the longer more challenging hike and the seconds stop. The cave hike would be a little challenging for people with... More
