- KathleenG17010 contributionsMajor exciting adventure with lots of laughs.Wow !!! We so enjoyed this whitewater salmon River adventure! My daughter and her boyfriend came here from Culver City specifically to do this trip again. This was our second trip and it was as fun and exciting as the first one! The office phone staff he We’re really nice helping me with my questions. Our guide Faith was spectacular! Better than the best. We will do it again next summer for sure.Written August 27, 2024
- 212DavidW0 contributionsIf you want a true inflatable kayak experience, this is the outfitter to chooseIf you want an exciting whitewater experience in a kayak, this is the company with whom you'll want to paddle. Prior to starting the Main Salmon trip with Orange Torpedo Trips, I was on the Middle Fork of the Salmon with a different company (OTT doesn't have a permit on the Middle). The service and guides for the Middle Fork outfitter I used was great but their kayaks sucked. The back support on their kayaks only came up to my lower back which made them quite uncomfortable to paddle. The kayak design made them clumsy and not very responsive when trying to navigate in rapids. This company like most (who are really rafting-based outfitters) had several kayaks for guests to use but kayaks are not a focus of their service. There were only four kayaks available for 16 guests to use. Their instruction was to follow a paddle boat as there were no guides specific for kayakers. When someone tipped over, it was mostly up to the paddler to get back into his/her boat as the paddle raft was not generally available to help. On one rapid, I was following the paddle boat but it got stuck on a rock. Those of us in kayaks ran into the back of the raft and had no way of seeing down river to determine which way to go. Contrast this to Orange Torpedo whose trips are designed for kayaking. OTT has a guide in a kayak for every four or so guests. The kayak guide gives detailed instructions about upcoming rapids which are sometimes different than the routes rafts take due to the nimbleness of OTT's kayaks. Speaking of which, they offer great back support and are designed by OTT for maximum fun as well as stability. It is very reassuring to have a guide nearby if/when one tips over as falling out in a rapid can be very anxiety inducing. OTT has great/personable guides and provided great food and service. I have been on OTT trips previously and have recommended OTT to friends, one of whom I've paddled with on two OTT trips. He was on a Middle Fork trip this year. His feedback to me was that he's been spoiled by the service and quality of kayaks OTT provides and said he'll only book trips with OTT in the future. As you may deduce, I've been very pleased with OTT and will be joining my friend on the Salmon River next year with OTT.Written August 20, 2024
- D9841MSbillr0 contributionsLower Salmon Canyons - excellent family tripI just finished the 4 day Lower Salmon River trip and it was everything I could ask for and more. I made great memories with my teenage kids that likely stoked a desire in them to do more of this in the future. I really enjoyed watching their confidence grow with the passing of each day. The guides and support crew were all excellent: a big shout out to Scout, AC, Scott, Mongo, Christos, Henry, Hannah and Ryan (and anybody I may have missed). I was so impressed with each and every one of you and enjoyed hearing about the depth of your passion for the river as well as the depth of your passion for the myriad other endeavors with which you engage when you are not on the river. Everything about the trip was super professional, with safety and good vibes always paramount. I can't thank you all enough for an exceptional experience!Written August 7, 2024
- E5491RGemilyc0 contributionsUnspeakably, Perfectly GreatWe arranged a private 5 day rafting and kayaking trip to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday, and from Eric's being incredibly helpful setting it up last year, to the moment we were dropped back off at our hotel, every single moment was top notch. We all fell in love with our guides- they are competent, joyful, have a deep love and appreciation for the river and canyons, engaged with the guests, determined to work their butts off to provide a fun and personally tailored experience, etc. I can't say enough about how much we adored Orion, Faith, and Elliot. I went from being a little nervous about kayaking through rapids myself to now feeling hooked - there was the perfect balance of teaching, leading, and allowing us to start to find our own groove with the waves. It was SO SO SO awesome. The days on the river were perfect, the nights under the shooting stars and milky way were... maybe even better, I can't decide. And thanks to the lack of cell reception I seem to have broken a long addiction to my phone (though the guides had sat phones for safety or weather info, so knowing my family could reach me in an emergency was good too). I've been to meditation and other spiritual retreats over the last few decades and I think henceforth I'll take all my retreat money and spend it on the river. I've been rafting a couple times in my life but this was the best trip by far. Eric, Orion, Elliot and Faith, you guys. Thank you SO MUCH. One million stars.Written August 6, 2024
- danhJ1161VY0 contributionsAwesome row your own multi day Main Salmon tripI have rafted with many different companies around the country, and this is without doubt the best. We did a 6 day row your own with them on the Main Salmon in mid June as we didn’t get a permit. Erik was incredibly accommodating with all the logistics (we rented rafts from them as well), always easy to reach and very helpful with all the questions. Plus the pricing was very affordable. The trip was amazing. Ryan, Tristan and Henry were fantastic. They got us all the best camp sites, showed us all the lines, the best hikes, the secret spots. We couldn’t believe how good the food was: they are masters of the dutch oven, with cinnamon rolls, cherry pie, and chocolate cake, and grilling steaks, fish, and barbecued chicken. The breakfast game is strong: eggs, burritos, french toast, sausages, and hash browns. It was a huge relief not having to do all the cooking and set up and to have their local knowledge to help keep us safe. They were so much fun to be around; we laughed a lot. Whether you are doing a regular or row your own, I highly recommend OTT. I’m sure all their river trips are great although I will always have a soft spot for the Main Salmon.Written June 26, 2024

- P9431IYmelaniec0 contributionsFun ride!Fun trip down the Salmon River through the mountains. These outfitters have been in business for a while and know what they’re doing. Great guides!Written August 26, 2023
- Timothy T0 contributionsFull Day Trip from RigginsWe did the one day rafting trip and had an amazing time. My son (12) and I were in the inflatable kayaks and mom rode in the raft. My son and I have very little experience kayaking but the guide was terrific and got us through every rapid, though not always in the kayak by the end. My son was hesitant on a few of the bigger rapids but our guide stuck right with him, somehow appeared right next to us as soon as we fell in, and was encouraging, positive, and patient the entire day. Especially nice was the mid-day break back at the office. By coming back to the start, we could go to the bathroom, leave stuff in the car we didn't need for the afternoon, get stuff we did need, check the phone, etc. Likely the best one-day rafting trip I've ever had!Written August 14, 2023
- O5742VNchristinak0 contributionsHooked on the Salmon RiverMy boyfriend and I did a four-day trip down the lower Salmon River on inflatable kayaks. This marked our second adventure with Orange Torpedo, having done the Rogue River with them last year, and we are already planning to return next year. Our guides -- Will, Ryan, and Andrew -- were knowledgeable, hospitable, and hilarious. As always, Orange Torpedo went above and beyond to cater to our dietary restrictions, treating us to delicious plant-based meals. Our lead guide, Will, made time to take us on side quests so we could see pictographs. He took the time to thoroughly explain each rapid and show us the best, safest routes. I left the trip feeling more capable and confident with white water and cannot wait to return!Written August 9, 2023
- colleensM4135TR0 contributionsGreat Family AdventureOur family went on a 3 day trip and had the time of our lives!! Cannot recommend orange torpedo trips enough—- this whole company is top notch! From the office staff to the river guides, we were treated like royalty the entire time… our guides bronwen, Maggie, Nikko, and Tristan were absolute rock stars!!!! We would definitely book with them again!!!Written August 6, 2023
- 750nikkij0 contributionsAwesome float with amazing female guide! Our guide Bronwyn was amazing. She was personable, knowledgeable, fun, and impressively strong. She even did a back flip off our raft in the calm/swimming area of the river. I was so happy to see female guides in a generally male dominated career. Jade was another guide that floated with another family, and she was equally impressive. I would highly recommend Orange torpedo for a Salmon River float. Our 6 year old was excited and chatty and pretty annoying, but Bronwyn was great with him. Thanks so much for a great time and awesome memories!Written July 27, 2023
- Rocky J0 contributionsAnother Successful Family TripBeautiful area and outstanding river. Andy was the most outstanding guide & help me several times when the rapid won. This was our 4th annual family outing & we are looking forward to next year with OTT.Written July 20, 2023

We had four adults and two kids ( 10 & 15 y.o.) and everyone had a great experience. The views were incredible and the rapids were awesome. Definitely recommend Orange Torpedo Trips! Thank you Maggie and Andrew!Written July 8, 2023
- GeetaEick0 contributionsEpic Owyhee River kayaking tripThis was our third kayaking trip with OTT - went with a friend on a 1-day Rogue adventure about 7 years ago, loved it so much booked the main Salmon River adventure 3 years ago, and then last week, went on what can only be described as one of the most epic adventure trips ever down the Owyhee River in Eastern Oregon for 5 days. Due to snowmelt, the first 2 days of our trip the river flow increased from roughly 900 CFS to 18 000 CFS during our trip - a higher level than anyone has ever seen on this river. Our guides handled this curve-ball effortlessly; they scouted rapids that might have changed in advance, made sure we were all safe in terms of PPE fitting and knowledge of how to tackle rapids, and had a great attitude throughout. Food at camp was absolutely delicious and varied, LOVED our sleeping cots (some of my best sleep in ages), and tents were easy to set-up after a demo. Would highly recommend this company - they've been in the business a long time, and they attract very high calibre people as guides and staff who have a true passion for the river, wilderness, and helping all willing customers to experience this,Written April 17, 2023
