About the operator
- Lesley I00Totally Professional & First ClassMy husband & I had a wonderful cruise today with blue skies. The food was delicious & plenty of it with oysters too. Lovely professional staff who put everyone at ease when we hit a bit of rough seas. All the staff are young & fun & made the cruise fun. We sat on the top deck & it was worth the extra money $$. We saw seals & caves & an eagle. I would highly recommend this cruise. The young girl(19 yrs old) helped a very nauseated lady & was so kind. She did great bar service too. The young men staff were great too. Keep up your great work crew. Thanks Steve & Lesley
- Marie-Claude L00A must to do when at Cole's bay areaThis morning cruise 10am- 2.30 pm is very well organized. A pickup is possible at Freycinet lodge jetty. The boat is comfortable, we were at the lower deck with plenty of room. We made several stops with a lot of explanations about rock formations and history of the area. We saw some seals, many dolphins and one humpback whale a little bit far We had lunch on the way back, a very good one. We can buy beverages. I highly recommend this tour
- traveller257600Amazing experienceThis cruise exceeded our expectations. The friendly and knowledgeable staff looked after all the passengers with great care. The commentary was fascinating and we were delighted that nature also excelled itself with wonderful weather and wildlife. We saw sea eagles, seals, whales, dolphins and much more against an unforgettable backdrop of mountains, granite cliffs and native vegetation. Our lunch was delicious. I wish we could do it all again tomorrow.
- jodayne00Brilliant crew, facilities and tourWhat a happy and friendly bunch to cruise with. Weather was overcast and a little windy so alternative route to the fur seal colony was selected for the cruise. So glad we did it! Fully informed at every step and we had heaps of fun.
- AliceR64100Sea fog, but still a great day outHappened to rescue a Stormy Petrel on the boat, I'd never seen one before. We saw dolphins but they didn't want to play, saw a White-Bellied Sea Eagle and nest. Stunning coastal scenery abounds, we had lunch included which was nice, plenty of room to move about and a great crew.
- colleeno62800Stunning tripI was somewhat dubious about the cruise initially, but my concerns were put to bed very quickly. Wonderful and informative staff who took the time to ensure that we got the best views and information. We were on the bottom level and think this was a bonus as we were so close to the wildlife. Dolphins galore; albatrosses; seals. Lunch was enjoyable and all that was needed. Complements to the captain for his manoeuvring of the boat. No issues with rough waters.
- Linda T00Dolphins, dolphins, dolphins everywhere!I did this cruise on Wed 31st March and it has to be one of the calmest trips I have ever taken. Perfect weather, perfect sailing. I purchased the upper lounge ticket (adults only) and the views did not disappoint. The crew were entertaining, the lunch was enormous and the drinks were flowing freely. But really, you don’t come on this cruise to eat or drink. You come for the scenery and boy Mother Nature provided a show ... crystal clear waters, albatrosses, super pod of dolphins and of course seals who didn’t want to miss out ...
- graemee25900Tour ComparisonOverall I rate the cruise as poor. For an extra $100.00 for the SKY LOUNGE you had a better view, a ' tossed out ' 'morning tea ' consisting of 4 cookies in a cardboard box, the boxes were not collected, plus a salad for lunch. Alcohol was free, but you needed to ask for coffee. Soft drinks were also free. No other food items were available - eg; chips / biscuits etc. In comparison, on the lower deck, the GORDON RIVER cruise offered a hot Buffett lunch, with 2nds, and personalise waiter service. An extensive range of food items and souvenir items, including alcohol, were available to purchase. Scenery and crew for this cruise were good but the overall experience lacked polish.
- taniap86900A fabulous dayThanks to the crew who were professional, attentive, friendly & informative. They had a ready smile for everyone. We had a fabulous day.
- NalinW_1200Brilliant scenery and cruiseIt was a drizzly day but the cruise was still brilliant. The scenery and cruise quality top notch. Great service too. We saw seals and dolphins as well. Overall good value with a decent lunch included. Cash bar was a great bonus.
- Frans_1225506000Great scenery & organisationThe cruise operates a two class catamaran, with the standard class offering comfortable seating, two external viewing decks, a bar to buy drinks and snacks, and if chosen, a very good ploughman lunch served at a quiet anchorage. The scenery around Freycinet Peninsula is dramatic, and it was supplemented on our cruise with lots of chasing dolphins, a feeding seal, and lots of seabirds including albatrosses. The crew obviously enjoy their work. They are friendly, well informed, and always ready to help with a holding hand if the swells get a bit exciting. All up, an excellent cruise.
- ambergupta7600Just Awesome.. don’t visit Tasmania if Wineglass Bay tours is not on itenary! The team is so warm, humble and honest! They actually take pleasure in showing you around, the captain will stop the cruise , make it go around places of interests and explain it to you. He found a rare herd of whales and followed it to overtake them so that we can come face to face with those lovely animals. That too twice!!!The crew is gorgeous and loving and take care of all the people generously. The bar is mind blowing and don’t mind opening up a tab for you any time. Since we encountered whales, captain and the crew extended the trip by an hour, without us asking, and made it 5:30 hours, on his own will. That’s shows the commitment of the team... not to miss by any means!!!
- MaffieAustralia00Lovely outingWe took the full package which is great when you want a quiet trip. Nice choice if local wines. Friendly staff. Lucky with the weather which made it for a great outing
- j1p00A great dayWe booked the Sky Lounge and were not disappointed. There were only 8 couples in the Lounge and we all chatted and enjoyed the day. The weather was extremely windy, so the tour took an alternative route and missed WineglassBay. Again, we were not disappointed. The scenery was spectacular The hospitality, knowledge and friendliness of the crew was excellent. Lunch was excellent for this type of tour. Recommended, especially the Sky Lounge for its pleasant atmosphere.
- Jayne K00Absolutely fantastic dayThe day we did the cruise it was great weather. The staff were all very friendly and professional. We were so lucky to see lots of whales feeding around the boat. The food was great- we were upstairs so food and alcohol all included. Smoked salmon and fresh oysters along with other meats and salad. I cannot say enough about the staff. They ensured we had the best day and bent over backwards to make our day memorable A truly fantastic day

Early evening on the day before departure, we ( myself and 78 and 80 year old parents) had a call from the office to confirm our booking and to advise us that unfortunately, due to the weather forecast for tomorrow, the alternative route via Isle du Phoques would be in effect. No Wineglass Bay so the offer of refund was given but after reassurances from the crew that the conditions for tomorrow on the new route would be ok, even for those who had experienced sea sickness in the past. We could even cancel the next morning depending if the weather worsened.
The next day arrived at it was flat and calm and we happily jumped aboard.
Matt ( The Skipper) Richard ( Gilligan ) and Erin ( Maryanne ) were very attentive and went out of their way to welcome all passengers in the Vista Lounge. They knew their stuff and were always available to share a story about what we were seeing or to answer questions we had.
The cruise sailed past the old pink granite quarry site and further south we encountered a large pod of dolphins who played and frolicked in the wake behind the vessel and another young dolphin swam right beneath the bow darting in and out of the waves.
The swell picked up and my mother found a great set outside at the back and the slight up and down motion didn't bother her at all. She did take 2 ginger tablets 30 minutes before departure so that certainly helped as well.
As we got closer to the granite outcrop, flippers started appearing in the water along with inquisitive faces and whiskers. Pulling up a few metres from a large cave, we see a handful of Australian fur seals as the boat moves around the island, we look up and see three White bellied sea eagles gracefully gliding atop a thermal current, seemingly floating in mid air. The boat moves to the southern face and we can smell them before we see them. Hundreds upon hundreds of seals and sea birds cling to the rock face. Tiny black newborn pups among them huddled close to their mothers and some larger males showing off with vocal barking. You'll be amazed at how high the seals can actually climb up the rock.
Turning around and heading back to Schouten Island we go past the Hen and Chicken formation and some secluded bays with their contrasting coloured rocks of granite, dolomite and sandstone before settling into the northern bay for lunch. Anchor out, engines off and it's a peaceful experience. The lunch provided was delicious especially the brownie. We had the pleasure of dolphins feeding nearby and another sea eagle overhead. The turquoise waters and white sands made for an idyllic setting.
After lunch we cruised past some more glorious beaches and headed back to shore. A great experience made even better by the wonderful crew.

Just one of the organised trips planned on our self drive holiday, this was a delightful day out on the beautiful "Wine Glass Bay" region of Tasmania. The crew were ever so friendly and informative about the region, and the abundant wildlife that resided in the area. We sadly did not see any dolphins (Granddaughter was a bit upset, she loves dolphins), nor did we see potentially any migrating whales (apparently some were spotted a few days earlier than our trip). Nonetheless we got to see Sea Eagles, Fur Seals, and Cormorants etc. There is a small supper / lunch provided, with some of the local foods and delicacies and a cold or hot drink as you preferred. The day ended with the boat returning to port, and we disembarked tired, yet satisfied of experiencing a jewel location in Tasmania.

Our expectations were high given Rob Pennicott's reputation and we were not disappointed. We took my 89 year old mum whose mobility may have been restricted on a moving vessel but the staff ensured she didn't miss out on anything and were very attentive & mindful of her needs and safety, as they were with everyone. Dan, Noah and Ewan in the Vista Lounge were interactive, very funny and obviously loved their work & surroundings. There were many highlights, particularly a whale and calf lolling about, the scenery spectacular and commentary from skipper Richard informative & interesting. Lunch was superb... a boxed Mediterranean offering with a brownie and beautiful fruit to finish. We highly recommend this experience and are already planning our next Pennicott wilderness journey.

We had booked this cruise over the internet and when we arrived it was to discover that they had cancelled our booking without our knowledge. Fortunately the cruise company sorted it out for us in minutes and we were on board and thoroughly enjoyed this cruise with the outstanding beauty of this area.
The crew were truly amazing and so professional in everything they did, including nurturing the passengers who became sea sick, they even offered everyone motion sickness tablets as we left and advised them where the best place was to sit on the ship.
The vessel is large but there are different levels and different price ranges for the seats. There’s a bar and a barista and food to be purchased on board or you can opt for the boxed lunch that they serve, which was excellent.
The crew were constantly checking on passengers, cleaning up where needed and available to answer any questions about the landscape and the animals. We were fortunate enough to see multitudes of shearwater birds that migrate south, a few albatrosses and a playful pod of Criss cross dolphins that surfed the wake of the vessel numerous times.
This is a well priced trip for what you do and see and I can’t recommend it highly enough if you are in the area, it’s time well spent.

Knowing how the weather can make or break a trip out on the water we were very lucky to jag a great day with mild winds and only a bit of chop. The cruise operators are very professional and clearly enjoy their work. We opted for the Vista Deck with lunch included and thought that the $20 lunch was good value. Thrown in for extra value were some whales that are making their way along the coast and all in all it was a great day out to remember.

We had a fabulous day with a great crew. We did choose the more expensive tickets to be in the adults only deck up top and it was totally worth the extra. Included wine, beer, alcoholic ginger beer, all locally made. Water and soft drinks also available. Lunch was huge with lots of locally sourced smoked salmon and meats, cheeses, crackers and everything to go with them to satisfy any tastebud.
We saw Australian fur seals along the way, huge rocky cliffs and Wineglass Bay. The scenery was spectacular but I do have to say, Wineglass Bay has nothing on Whitehaven Beach in Queensland.
Having said all that, we really enjoyed great company with the other guests, smooth waters and beautiful scenery as well as full tummies and great service. A great way to see the area in one day.

We were a bit disappointed in this cruise unfortunately. I cannot fault the staff at all, every one of them from the check in staff to the onboard staff were very friendly, cheerful & went out of their way to look after us. Special mention of Noah who was a funny & very spirited young man who had us all laughing! But the actual cruise was just quite boring really. The scenery was beautiful & the main attraction of Wine Glass Bay was stunning but 4.5 hours of looking at the same scenery was monotonous. We stopped for lunch at the bay & stayed there for an hour even though it took about 15 minutes to eat our packed lunch & I could see lots of people sitting around looking bored after about half an hour. (The lunch was simple but nice enough, although not hugely filling - salad, cold meats, cheese, crackers, small amount of fruit & a sweet treat served to us in our seats.) On the cruise back, which was the way we had come so it was the same scenery, lots of people fell asleep! We didn't see any wildlife apart from some birds. It's a shame it's such a long way around to Wine Glass Bay because if the cruise was half the length it would be better. I don't think it was worth it just to see the bay unfortunately.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide a considered review on your Wineglass Bay Cruises experience. We are so glad to hear you were well looked after by our crew but are sorry to hear the sights did not meet your expectations.
The Freycinet Peninsula is renowned for its stunning granite coastline, white sandy beaches and beautiful bays. We often see wildlife on our cruises including seals, dolphins and seabirds such as the white bellied sea eagle. However, when you operate in nature there is never any guarantees. We do strive to deliver an amazing experience regardless of what nature puts on for the day and will definitely take on board your comments.
Thank you again for taking the time.

Have waited for many years to go by sea to Wineglass bay, always something got in my way. This time booked the top deck with all its extras and what a truely wonderful experience.
The lunch was superb, plenty of oysters, salmon, salads, fruits etc and more Tasmanian wine choices than anyone could sample. Fruit juices, beer, water, tea or coffee was also offered.
The day was magic the water sparkling blue, the sand so white against the blue water.
We saw seals, dolphins, mutton birds and lots of different sea birds.

Went on this cruise today with my family and couldn’t recommend the staff enough 😀 shout out to Lizzie, Noah and all the other staff on board including the captain for a truly unforgettable experience. Unfortunately myself and my mother were very ill most of the time with sea sickness even though they provide sea sickness tablets. But overall, was a great cruise around the Freycinet Coast and very informative pointing out local wildlife and also the history of the coast. Well done guys 👏👏 and thank you so much for looking after my family and I was greatly appreciated!

This was an amazing way to see Wineglass Bay and the surrounding area.
Thanks Kate, Skipper Richard and the rest of the crew for a fantastic day.
We were lucky enough to see a small whale, unexpected at this time of year, and Richard took the time to wait until it breached again, we loved that the main focus was on guests experience. The wildlife was amazing, from the seals and birds, to a large pod of dolphins, including some young ones. So enjoyable
I would highly recommend the Sky lounge, and it’s relaxed atmosphere
The champagne was cold, the staff knowledgeable, and the lunch was super delicious and all sourced within 50 kms, which I loved. Showcasing the best that Tassie has to offer
I can not think of anything that this Pennicott cruises could have done better. Well Done!!

Could someone give me an appraisal of the differences between the sky lounge and the vista Lounge? I understand the food is different, but not exactly how. Is is a buffet, are there quality vegetarian options? What is the cost of wine and beer in the Vista Lounge?
In short, is the extra $105 per person value? I don't intend to get rolling drunk on booze, nor so full I cannot move but a total $210 per couple is not insubstantial to me so I would like to know what you get for it.
I am thinking of taking this cruise in early May and my wife is worried about sea sickness. How rough is this journey by sea and does the boat stop in high sea?
we are aware lunch will be in the bay. Thank you Domenic

We had a reasonably smooth ride. You go along the coast line. Lunch is in Wineglass Bay. Very calm. Suggest upstairs. Best to check weather before you cruise.

I get seasick myself, but on stable boats like this, I don't even bother to take my preferred Travelcalm. If you are severely prone to seasickness, take your preferred sea-sickness tablet before you board. Looking regularly out the window also helps.
