Overview
Visit the infamous hidden vaults beneath the South Bridge in Edinburgh Old Town. Hear tales of how the poor and unfortunate lived in these former slums. Explore these dimly lit vaults by candlelight, once the haunt of criminals, body snatchers and witches alike!

Each vault has stories of crime, disease, death and lots more... with which your guide shall enlighten you in all the gory details! You will see a genuine witchcraft temple, recently used by a Wiccan coven and you will enter their former temple. Join us to learn why it is no longer safe for them to practice their craft in that vault.

DARE you step inside the infamous stone circle?
Highlights
  • Get access to the fascinating and rarely visited Edinburgh Vaults
  • Enter a sinister underground world beneath Edinburgh’s Old Town

What to Expect
Greet your guide on the Royal Mile and escape the tourist trail to discover Edinburgh’s deepest secrets on this underground walking tour through the Edinburgh Vaults. These infamous vaults fill all 19 arches of South Bridge in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. As you walk, you’ll learn the hideous conditions in which Edinburgh’s poorer citizens lived during the 18th century.
Descend into the dark, dank vaults and learn what it was like to live in the darkness—and which criminals sought their prey there. You’ll explore candlelit Niddry’s Wynd, visit a witchcraft temple with a haunted stone circle, and brave the Haunted Vault, where a myriad mysterious events have occurred.

The vaults themselves are really interesting and for sure worth a visit. However this tour isn't worth £12. It started with a walk through the city with unrelated stops at two monuments where our guide forgot the name on one statue, and butchered a potentially...More

Quite interesting but expected more background and history rather than folklore stories. Some of stories inaccurate. Would have preferred to see more of the vaults

An intriguing glimpse into an underground world not even imagined from the many surfaces of the city. Tuesday was a wonderful and engaging tour guide, making everyone feel welcome. 10/10 would...More

I strongly suggest Mary Kings Close instead of this one. It’s better in every respect. The vaults, the history and the tour are all better. Auld reeky is a fair walk off the royal mile, is less interesting historically and the nonsense ghost stories are...More

We loved our guide (Ewan), he was really funny. Tour was good but would be nice to see more than 3 rooms. Kids were suitably scared 😉

You could... But i personally wouldn't recommend. It's quite a dark and humid place. Also the information provided is on the scary / ghost related/haunting side of history so you may not get the full experience of it if you... More
