Hawfinch Roost Walk MARCH 2025 Thank you to Marcus and his team for a relaxed (yes, at a 6am start!) informal walk. They were all very knowledgeable and informative about Hawfinches and many other species. If you have a passing interest or are a more experience birder, you will enjoy this experience. With thanks to all. We are keen to take part in other trips, especially looking forward to a river cruise when we're next in the area. We went as a couple but there were about 8 others, singles and family groups.

Our family went on the Fungi and Slime mould tour and all had a fabulous time. It was a grey day and I probably wouldn't have managed to get everyone out if we hadn't booked this. We all learnt such a lot and there was so much to discover. Marcus, Emily and some additional young helpers were all extremely knowledgeable. My son could remember about 15 different fungi species names that we had seen and he didn't know any of them beforehand. My daughter really enjoyed taking close up photos of our discoveries. Highly recommend to anyone interested in nature. The frogs and frogspawn were a bonus!

Excellent day out. Saw lots of birds and managed to get some good photos. We would defiantly consider doing it again in a bigger group.

Enjoyed a truly lovely afternoon with Marcus and a small group searching for hawfinch in the New Forest. Marcus' knowledge of both hawfinch and the forests flora and fauna generally is extensive and he is generous and engaging in sharing his experience. Several hawfinch spotted and a couple of crossbill as a bonus! Hidden forest trails, fantastic views, deer and parachute fungi all added to a rewarding trip. I would recommend to anyone interested in the forest/birds/nature and ecology to book a trip with Wild New Forest, you won't find a better guide. Thank you Marcus!

We did a scheduled two hour, which ended up being two and a half hour guided Hawfinch walk with Marcus. His enthusiasm shone through from beginning to end, and was contagious. His knowledge about all things Hawfinch is astounding. We saw Hawfinches flying in to roost, but even had we not seen Hawfinches it would still have been more than worthwhile attending the walk just to listen to Marcus, and such a lot. Great day.

Marcus and Emily knowledgeable and friendly make the guided walk very interesting and at a relaxed pace. Plenty of time to stop and spot nature and talk about whatever we came across. Thank you love your tours and will be back again soon.

Absolutely brilliant afternoon out, walking the forest looking for birds, Wild New Forest never disappoints and I would highly recommend to go with them and enjoy the experience. Emily and Marcus are so knowledgeable I learn something every time I go out with them

Excellent. The leaders shared their expertise and enthusiasm and we were rewarded with some views of hawfinches returning to their roost.A lesser spotted woodpecker was a bonus. Thoroughly recommend and would gladly join another tour.

Really enjoyable trip, saw loads of wildlife, particularly bids, and really informative guide. Would definitely recommend.

What a brilliant afternoon, we really enjoyed floating past a huge variety of wildlife..sadly no Eagle today, but a Great Northern Diver made up for it. Marcus was informative and the coffee and mince pies a nice touch. Will definitely go again

A wonderful few hours in the Forest, where beech leaves carpeted the ground. So many fascinating fungi found by the very knowledgeable Wild New Forest team, who gave us time to take photos. Interesting stories revealed by Marcus about the different fungi. Not just the biology, but also the social aspects e.g. the actions of reindeer herders …. You need to join a trip to find out what they get up to… I think I might have to go again too 😊

We started our trip from Bucklers Hard. We had good weather with no wind. Marcus pointed out all the wildlife and was a mine information. We saw Seals, plenty of wildfowl including Widgeon, Teal, Egrets and Cormorants. The highlight of the trip was a guest appearance of a Sea Eagle. We stopped off for Bacon sandwiched and Coffee. A memorable trip.

Always interesting with Marcus and Emily. You never know what you are going to find and there are always surprises! Lovely way to spend a couple of hours in the New Forest.

Efficient,well planned trip. Pick up was punctual as were directions to the meeting point. Marcus and Emily were the perfect pair, one hosted the ten adults and three dogs aboard. Marcus had an extensive knowledge of the wildlife in the area, especially birds, and was happy to explain the bird behaviors. Historical sites were also pointed out but no explanations were labored or too technical. The weather was perfect and I know everybody, including the dogs had a great time. Would thoroughly recommend this trip.
