- Nic1212120 contributionsA special Dawn in the New Forest -Hawfinch Roost Walk MARCH 2025 Thank you to Marcus and his team for a relaxed (yes, at a 6am start!) informal walk. They were all very knowledgeable and informative about Hawfinches and many other species. If you have a passing interest or are a more experience birder, you will enjoy this experience. With thanks to all. We are keen to take part in other trips, especially looking forward to a river cruise when we're next in the area. We went as a couple but there were about 8 others, singles and family groups.Written March 21, 2025
- ginam7010 contributionsFantastic trip of discoveryOur family went on the Fungi and Slime mould tour and all had a fabulous time. It was a grey day and I probably wouldn't have managed to get everyone out if we hadn't booked this. We all learnt such a lot and there was so much to discover. Marcus, Emily and some additional young helpers were all extremely knowledgeable. My son could remember about 15 different fungi species names that we had seen and he didn't know any of them beforehand. My daughter really enjoyed taking close up photos of our discoveries. Highly recommend to anyone interested in nature. The frogs and frogspawn were a bonus!Written February 25, 2025
- ianbP5601WK0 contributionsVery enjoyableExcellent day out. Saw lots of birds and managed to get some good photos. We would defiantly consider doing it again in a bigger group.Written February 23, 2025
- J3081TJdis0 contributionsFantastic guided walkEnjoyed a truly lovely afternoon with Marcus and a small group searching for hawfinch in the New Forest. Marcus' knowledge of both hawfinch and the forests flora and fauna generally is extensive and he is generous and engaging in sharing his experience. Several hawfinch spotted and a couple of crossbill as a bonus! Hidden forest trails, fantastic views, deer and parachute fungi all added to a rewarding trip. I would recommend to anyone interested in the forest/birds/nature and ecology to book a trip with Wild New Forest, you won't find a better guide. Thank you Marcus!Written January 22, 2025
- Relax256990358300 contributionsExcellent tourWe did a scheduled two hour, which ended up being two and a half hour guided Hawfinch walk with Marcus. His enthusiasm shone through from beginning to end, and was contagious. His knowledge about all things Hawfinch is astounding. We saw Hawfinches flying in to roost, but even had we not seen Hawfinches it would still have been more than worthwhile attending the walk just to listen to Marcus, and such a lot. Great day.Written January 22, 2025
- br0wn20180 contributionsExcellent guided walks in New ForestMarcus and Emily knowledgeable and friendly make the guided walk very interesting and at a relaxed pace. Plenty of time to stop and spot nature and talk about whatever we came across. Thank you love your tours and will be back again soon.Written January 15, 2025

The leaders shared their expertise and enthusiasm and we were rewarded with some views of hawfinches returning to their roost.A lesser spotted woodpecker was a bonus. - Traveler429472390610 contributionsBeaulieu River Boat Tour…Really interesting and informative whatever your level of knowledge. Highly recommendedWhat a brilliant afternoon, we really enjoyed floating past a huge variety of wildlife..sadly no Eagle today, but a Great Northern Diver made up for it. Marcus was informative and the coffee and mince pies a nice touch. Will definitely go againWritten December 3, 2024
- Blanketbog0 contributionsFabulous Fungi Explorer ExperienceA wonderful few hours in the Forest, where beech leaves carpeted the ground. So many fascinating fungi found by the very knowledgeable Wild New Forest team, who gave us time to take photos. Interesting stories revealed by Marcus about the different fungi. Not just the biology, but also the social aspects e.g. the actions of reindeer herders …. You need to join a trip to find out what they get up to… I think I might have to go again too 😊Written November 20, 2024
- G3555LShilaryb0 contributionsExtended Beaulieu River Boat TripWe started our trip from Bucklers Hard. We had good weather with no wind. Marcus pointed out all the wildlife and was a mine information. We saw Seals, plenty of wildfowl including Widgeon, Teal, Egrets and Cormorants. The highlight of the trip was a guest appearance of a Sea Eagle. We stopped off for Bacon sandwiched and Coffee. A memorable trip.Written November 13, 2024
- Mary_AnnM8140 contributionsLovely morning finding fungi.Always interesting with Marcus and Emily. You never know what you are going to find and there are always surprises! Lovely way to spend a couple of hours in the New Forest.Written November 5, 2024
- Ada C0 contributionsExcellent value for money. Time well spent.Efficient, well planned trip. Pick up was punctual as were directions to the meeting point. Marcus and Emily were the perfect pair, one hosted the ten adults and three dogs aboard. Marcus had an extensive knowledge of the wildlife in the area, especially birds, and was happy to explain the bird behaviors. Historical sites were also pointed out but no explanations were labored or too technical. The weather was perfect and I know everybody, including the dogs had a great time. Would thoroughly recommend this trip.Written October 25, 2024

The evening walk with Marcus and Emily was fantastic and was definitely one of the highlights for us during our short break in the New Forest. The route was interesting and the views amazing, not just of the birds but the also views over to the Isle of Wight and the Solent, and the sunset. Marcus pointed out and explained so much about the birds in their habitat, plus other interesting background points about the landscape and the New Forest in general. The walk was very well paced and leisurely, with lots of opportunity to stop and talk about what we were seeing and hearing. Plenty of time to take photos and just admire the views and birds. Marcus and Emily were both extremely friendly and helpful. Their knowledge is first class and they were so keen and passionate about the New Forest and their walks - ensuring that everyone enjoyed it . We would highly recommend their walks. We also went on the Boat Trip from Bucklers Hard down the Beaulieu River and the Wildlife Wander Walk from the Bell Inn, which Marcus and Emily run.

We had a wonderful walk with Marcus and Emily. We talked about all sorts of things - I learnt so much about the New Forest and how the land is managed and generally interesting things about wildlife!
It was pitched perfectly and very responsive to the questions asked by the group. It was so interesting to hear about the research Wild New Forest are doing as well.
Definitely go, whether you're a local or visiting! I can't wait to do another activity with Wild New Forest.

This was actually the Lymington walk along the river and the bird sanctuary.
This is a very regular walk for me and my dogs along the sea wall overlooking the reserve. I was astonished at just how much more I discovered in the company of Marcus. We spotted almost 30 different species and observed many behaviours (courtship, territorial tussles). I highly recommend it as a way to get an in depth experience of the wildlife in the area.

You guys were easy to chat to, and it was lovely to see your passion for what you do.
I'd definitely recommend this walk to others looking for an informed insight into the Forest and its inhabitants (from birds to bugs, flora to fungi).

It's the simple things in life that can bring one pleasure and having someone like Marcus to show you around various parts of the New Forest that i would never normally reach is definitely one of these things. My last 2 Xmas gifts and Bday gift from my family have been a 3hr bespoke walk with Marcus and each were equally fantastic even though very different. We walked through the ancient oak forests while talking about the many bird species and flora and the many wonderful studies that are taking place throughout the year. We did a fungi walk in October if i remember correctly which was beyond belief and we saw so many different types of all sizes and colours and Marcus knew them all by name and the properties of each. ( unreal knowledge) The walk we did last month was a mix of terrains across the ancient and open heaths.. It was just 3 of us that went all all of the trip and our next one will be getting planned pretty soon and we may do shoreline walk to see all the waders .. Can't recommend enough , a great place with a great guide..

Very well organised with a simple booking process.
Our guide, Marcus, was very informative, sharing lots of knowledge on flora and fauna. Clearly passionate about the New Forest environment.
A very relaxed walk, not rushed in any way with a refreshment stop along the way.
Despite having visited the New Forest numerous times previously, this walk still proved a learning experience. We will definitely sign up for another walk when next in the New Forest.

We thoroughly enjoyed our walk with Marcus (who was full of knowledge about the history of the New Forest, the local wildlife and habitats) and Emily-Louise. We were lucky enough to see a young cuckoo, silver-washed fritillary, and a bee-wolf colony… highly recommended!!!

We joined Marcus for a pre-booked New Forest Discovery Walk from Lyndhurst and spent 3+ hours learning about the forest's history and management as well as the wildlife. The 8km walk was at a good pace to suit everyone in the group and there was plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Marcus has immense knowledge of the area and rare wildlife within it. We saw interesting fungi, insects, birds and plants as well as ponies and pannage pigs and ended the walk with greater understanding of this beautiful, important habitat and the creatures within it. We will definitely book another guided walk with Wild New Forest on future trips. Thank you Marcus and good luck with the pine marten study!
