I recently completed the 3-day PADI open water course, and can highly recommend Exmouth Diving Centre to anyone wanting to learn to scuba dive. Day 1 was spent doing 5 "confined water dives" in the local pool, and days 2 and 3 consisted of 2 open water dives each on the Ningaloo reef.

My fantastic instructor Lindsay taught me all the skills and knowledge required to make me a safe diver, was ready to pull me up on my mistakes and give me pointers to improve, and really went out of her way to ensure I was comfortable with the skills she taught me. At the same time, her excitement passion for the ocean was obvious - she would point out interesting fish and was always looking for rays or sharks to introduce me to. At one point, she grabbed my hand so we could speed along the reef because she spotted a dolphin pod in the distance!

Everyone else I met at Exmouth Diving Centre had the same obvious passion as Lindsay.

There were three groups on the boat on each of my open water days - a snorkelling group, a dive group and a dive course group, each of which had less than 5 people. If not all of your travel companions are keen on scuba diving, it would be very feasible for them to do a snorkel tour off the same boat.

All in all an incredible experience with incredible people. My only regret is that I wasn't in town long enough to do a whale shark swim as well!

This is a great experience with wonderful people. Team of Exmouth dive is very professional, friendly and most of all they are ready to go an extra mile to address your need. I enjoyed the diving and the company of the team. Special thanks for Leen and Matt :-)

I not long ago completed the 3 day PADI Open Water Dive Course, with my instructor Gaston. I had an amazing time 😃 Gaston was brilliant, calming and knowledgeable. Hopefully I get to go back and visit one day. We saw so much, it felt like an aquarium at depths in Lighthouse Bay 👌🏼! Massive thank you to all the team, but mostly the instructors Gaston and Matt

Highly recommend the centre for people wanting to learn to dive 😁

A very busy time for Ningaloo Reef. Various staff around the region complained of it seeming like school holidays for the past year and a half.
We wanted to book on one of the whaleshark tours but unfortunately it was booked out. We settled on the Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) and booked for Monday June 14th to cap of our WA coast holiday, we waited excitedly for days.
As accomodation in Exmouth was fully booked we stayed in Coral Bay (which we would now recommend over Exmouth).
On Monday morning we left at 6am for the drive to Exmouth, realising upon our arrival in Exmouth at 8am that we had received a text message from 7:15am that our instructor had "called in sick with a bad cold".
Aah yes, the old Monday morning cold...
We arrived at the shed anyway to ask the staff what happened? what we could do? was there another tour option?
The girl at the counter explained that she sympathised with the poor instructor, as scuba with a cold isn't very nice. Also, they don't have another instructor and all other experiences were booked out... When I described our predicament and our journey from Coral Bay, she then explained that this was why they recommend people don't stay in Coral Bay, which was not an option for us, nor was it mentioned when I called the day before our tour to confirm the weather and our pickup location.
Turns out it was our fault that we didn't have something else to do on Australia's remote north western coast when you can't find the staff to fulfill your contractual obligations.

My partner & I thoroughly enjoyed our scuba diving experience… the staff were very knowledgable, highly professional, very attentive to all levels of experience and very approachable. The boat was comfortable & we never felt cramped, we always felt safe, the whole day moved smoothly, we saw incredible amounts of marine life & they catered for vegetarians & vegans. Our dive master Lindsay was amazing, she really made the day!

Nice and helpful crew. Good choices of dive sites. The boat ride was good and smooth. It was spacious and steady. The crew also introduced the marine life we saw to us.
Transfer bus is available but has musky smell.

For myself being on discover scuba experience, the instructor was experienced and patient in assisting me throughout the dives.

On time, well organised and a highly professional crew. A purpose designed boat, safe with plenty of room and a helpful Captain. An easy dive, rich in marine life, including a huge manta ray. Brilliant. An adventure well worth the effort.

Experienced and safe crew. Decent vessel. Clean toilet! Very Covid aware. We're here for another week and there's a decent chance I'll dive again...just because they did such a good job. I needed stupid amounts of weight for my buoyancy and they were very patient. Never made me feel like I was an annoyance. Special shout out to the skipper Tibo, Mark my dive master and Katie, who was just chillin on a day off. Thanks team :)

I want to share my experience with people thinking to dive in Exmouth with Exmouth Diving Centre.

After almost a month of doing a divemaster course with them, one morning the manager said I failed the course because they said they lost 2 potential costumers because of me!!!!!!!!!

They refund me a few money but not all I paid for the course!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine that used to work for them advised me to avoid this place, but I unfourtunately did not follow his tip.

This centre offers a DIVEMASTER course at the price of 1500 AUD, BE AWARE THAT THIS IS NOT A COURSE, BUT AN INTERNSHIP where you are expected and you must work 8-11 hours a day, 7 days a week for at least 6 weeks by carrying tanks(many tanks), wash gear, prepare lunch, wash the boat, set the anchor, fill tanks and test if each regulator works correctly at the end of every day!!!!

They are taking advantage of this, by having people working for free(after we even paid for) and give so less work to the real crew that is paid to work.

A few extra info for anybody interested in their divemaster 'course':

- If the boat is full you will not get to dive.

- There isn't any night dive or shore diving.

- The choice of spots is pretty much endless but still 95% of the dives are in the same 6 spots all times.

At the Lighthouse:
Blizzard Ridge, Gullivers, The labyrinth.

Which are limestone reefs without almost any corals. Do not expect colours, grey is pretty much what you'll see during your dive. Fish is manly of temperate species, with a very very few tropical ones

At the murion Islands:

whale bone, key hole, jaws.

Here there are some hard corals(not colourful though) and absolutely NOT WORTH THE TRIP!

- Visibility is anywhere at the islands and in the bay between 4-8 meters, depths of the dive sites are between 10-14 meters, and all are very very small sites.

We only dived twice to 21-22 m, with the instructor saying he does not understand why people want to dive 'deep'!

Once we dived in a spot 2 m deep! With people struggling to stay underwater because it was so shallow and costumers obviously complaining after the dive...

- YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DIVE LONGER THAN 50 minutes!

- The air compressor is broken so surprise surprise you will dive with NITROX!

- Dive groups are very often too big, with up to 7 divers following one guide! And due to the poor visibility that Ningaloo unfortunately has people get lost for a few minutes sometimes!

- The NAVY PIER IS CLOSED! No one is allowed to snorkel or dive there anymore.

- If you really want to do a dive master course in Exmouth, check out the other companies, some do internships that run for 2 months where you work 4 days a week and the training is completely free!

I did more than 30 dives there, while doing the course and I gotta say that for corals, fish variety and quantity, and visibility the reef has been absolutely disappointing to me.

The best places to snorkel are in the national park like oyster stalks and turquoise bay(go there on high tide because they are very shallow) where is plenty of hard corals and some fish, but again not a really colourful reef(corals seem to be blenched) and the mildura wreck(watch out for currents).

I don't think diving in Exmouth is worth but if you do want to dive there have a look at the other local companies in town where you can find way more affordable prices.

ABOUT THE WHALE SHARK TOURS: ASK HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU WILL BE ON THE BOAT WITH: NO MORE THAN 10 COSTUMERS ARE ALLOWED AT ANY TIME IN THE WATER WITH A WHALE SHARK, SO IF THERE ARE MORE THAN 10 PEOPLE THERE WILL BE 2 GROUPS INTERCHANGING ALL TIMES TO SWIM THAT MEANS LESS TIME IN THE WATER.

Swimming with whale sharks is cool, but in Exmouth is not cheap, if you are thinking to travel any soon to Asia, remind that you can swim with them for 25 $ in The Philippines.

Catch the sunset over the ocean at the lighthouse and taste an ice cream at Pinocchio's restaurant are without doubt the best things to do while visiting Exmouth ;D

On Friday night head to the Potshot to meet locals and travelers.

Hope you'll have a good time in little Exmouth! :)

Thank you for your interesting trip advisor review. I’m glad you have written this public attack about our reputable dive centre, as many of the locals here in Exmouth may have been speculating as to why Exmouth Diving Centre, who have certified 30+ divemaster students in the past 3 years, have failed a Divemaster Trainee student. When students book our Divemaster Training course we have them sign a learning agreement which states that you are paying for a course, not a certification. Like all our other students, you signed this document stating that you understood that you had to pass to be certified prior to starting your course. Just like any other course you might take, there is a standard you need to meet to pass. At Exmouth Diving Centre we set the standard high and almost all of our students end up with work in the dive industry after passing our course. Even with the high standards expected here, you are still the only student who has ever failed the divemaster course during my tenure here as manager since the business changed ownership in 2012. I have never heard of anyone getting a refund when they fail a course before, however our business owner is a kind man and generously allowed me to refund you 50% of the course price after taking into consideration the costs sustained by the business during your time here. Even after the refund you are still disgruntled enough to write this review, attacking not only our centre, but the whole Ningaloo Reef!!! It is no wonder that the reason you failed your course was because none of the PADI instructors who work here would sign you off for the minimum required score of 3 to pass several components of the professionalism section on the divemaster candidate information and evaluation form. There are countless people who would disagree with your comments about the reef. To those who are reading this review, please consult our other reviews for a more accurate point of view.
