          Helpful and professional 😊
Alexandar from Usambara Expeditions is very helpful person. He helped us much with finding accommodation and tour organization in Lushoto. He contacted us with fantastic guide Moodi, who has tremendous knowledge about local fauna and flora. Moodi is perfect person to spent very nice time and get info also about local life and traditions. I highly recommend this company as trusted tour operator.

RECOMMEND — Highly professional and supportive teams
Booked both our Kilimanjaro trip and safari through Usambara. Both hwve been incredible! The Kili team were highly professional (especially Goodluck), happy, friendly and supportive. The porters even came to check if we were OK since we spent slightly longer time on the summit-day — we felt very welcome and safe with the guys. On the safari, we had the best experience with the coolest guy (Simbo), who is also working with National Geographic across entire Africa. He sees everything from lizards to birds to lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, zebras, etc. High mood and spirit even though animals doesn’t always come easy. We went to Tarangire and Lake Manyara for 2 days/1 night, and it was a blast!

Amazing safari through NCA and Serengeti
Usambara arranged a safari through NCA and Serengeti and ending in Musoma. Our guides were fantastic and we saw a tremendous amount of wildlife. Things were organized very well! We would use them again!

Excellent trip! Great tour guide, Kassim. Would recommend doing an overnight versus same day, since traffic can be unpredictable. Thanks again.

          The BEST SAFARI
SAFARI was the most beautiful experience of our lives. It was our honeymoon. Our safari guide - Roman was not only the best animal chaser, but also a very good friend with a lot of information that interested us. He showed us the big 5. Since it was our honeymoon, they provided us with a romantic dinner with our own chef and a 5-course dinner. It was perfect, we're looking forward to the next trip.

          3 days Selous
We were four friends travelling together to Selous NP. Our guide & driver Matata was the best! Also we liked a lot the accomodation they organized for us. First day we did the boat safari, second day a game drive and the third day was a hiking safari. The hiking safari was completely different as we expected, it was more like a show than a serious hiking safari. This was the only thing that was disappointing, everything else was perfect.

          Big Five Safari- 6 days
I had very good experience with Usambara Expeditions, While I was in Dar Elsalam, Mr. Yousef helped me to book my Safari and and he arranged my transportation and the hotel in Arusha. During the safari, we had a wonderful guide, Mr. Simon. Very helpful and with great knowledge in everything. When I go to Tanzania next time, I will definitely book my next tour with them.

Alex Shembago is a big CHEATER, don't do business with him. At the beginning of July i had arranged a 24-days all inclusive (transport, some safaris, visit some tribes, hotel, food, etc.) round trip with him from Dar es Salaam with final destination Moshi. I did this trip with a driver/gide, Alex stayed in Dar es Salaam. About 40% of the agreed amount i paid Alex directly, the rest i gave to the driver during the trip. The guide was ok and he paid every the first 19 days of the trip. The old car that Alex give us was bad and broke down 3 times (steering broke, broken front wheel and leaked tank). Part of the trip by car from Kigoma to Bukoba and from Bukoba by boat to Mwanza was canceled by Alex during the trip, because according Alex the road to Bokoba was too dangerous and the boat from Bukoba to Mwanza did not sail. Five days before the end of the trip, Alex called me. He wanted to borrow 300 US dollar from me because the money i gave the guide was running out and the guide couldn't pay nothing more. I told him that i have payed all the money for this to him and gide. Alex had still had 40% of the travel sum in his pocket and he can easy sent the amount of costs of the last 5 days to the guide. He did not do this. In the last 5 days i have done a few more trips trough another person and gide, but i have had to pay for the hotel and food (115 US dollar) myself. I said to Alex that i at least want to have the hotel and food costs reimbursed from him. He promised to transfer these charges to me within 5 days. After a week , Alex remembers and he promised again that he will. Again two weeks later reminds him of this, no reaction from him. Now after 7 weeks at home still received nothing. P.s. when i was still in Moshi I told this to an other guide. This guide told me that he knew Alex and that it is not believed that Alex will refund me any money.

          3-day private safari
My guide was Zakaria. Amazing guy and incredibly knowledgeable. Gentle and it’s clear that he just really loves and wants to preserve the wilderness. I would definitely want to go with him if I went again. I learned a ton! It was really really safe. They met me at my hotel in Dar es Salaam and gave me clear instructions about what to bring, the money situation...there were no surprises. I went to Mikumi National Park. Twice, we were right beside large groups of elephants with tiny babies. We just sat and watched for a long time. They came very close. Several close encounters with giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, eland, impalas....remarkable place and a wealth of wildlife. Rich diversity of bird species, too, and Zakaria knew not just the species but also how they live, hunt, eat, court...loved being able to ask lots of questions, and also his patience in allowing me to just sit and watch for as long as I wanted. I also appreciated his sensitivity to the animals and not wanting to disturb them. When two or three other vehicles charged in off the road to give tourists a close look at a family of lions with two cubs, he held back and quietly explained that this unethical behavior destroys animal and bird habitat in the underbrush. I want to support a guide with integrity like that. It’s amazing. I know I will go back to see more. And you really do help to support a whole local economy. Just make sure you have lots of insect repellent and sunblock :)

          4 day private Safari experience
My boyfriend and I booked a 4 day private safari from Dar es salaam from feb 29th-March 3rd at Selous kinga lodge for our 3 nights. First it’s important to know that if you are driving from dar es salaam, the journey is VERY ROUGH and the car is not air conditioned. My boyfriend and I are 29 and 30, very fit and healthy with no serious chronic injuries. We very much enjoyed the experience of driving through the country, seeing how people live, drive, and seeing the landscape. But after 3 hours of driving, the pavement gives way to the roughest dirt road I’ve ever driven on. Most cars would not be able to make it. The last 4 hours of the drive was bumpy and very very slow. We were looking forward to it ending even though we enjoyed most of it. If you are sensitive, injured, easily overheated, or otherwise I highly recommend flying in (we had no idea this was an option). The lodge was lovely. A small chilly pool to cool off in, a nice communal area to lounge, use WiFi, and eat meals. They were at the tail end of their season and we were two of only four people staying. It was quiet, but almost eerily so. The food was ok/ pretty good. We never went hungry. Make sure to ask for the price of any alcohol you order. We asked for wine and they just picked a bottle for us. It was $30, which isn’t that bad but still, it’s best to know in advance. There is no AC anywhere and bugs and geckos will get into the rooms. Completely fine and to be expected, just mentioning to be aware. Overall, a kind welcoming staff and comfortable accommodation. We got to see some spectacular lightening and listen to the rain from the communal area. The safari: The boat safari was two hours long. Our guide was very knowledgeable and tried to show us as much as possible. We saw weaver birds and their nests, bee eater birds and their dug out homes, a few other colorful birds. River hippos from afar, and a small crocodile. We were unable to find any big ones, which our guide seemed surprised by. The game reserve: Unfortunately for us, the rainy season started early. This flooded the reserve- shrinking it in size And made most of the side roads muddy and more difficult to travel on. I understand this is no ones fault, but our driver Mike was overly cautious and afraid of getting stuck in the mud. He wanted to stay on the main road between gates, which is only a tiny fraction of the reserve. He drove rather quickly and wasn’t really pointing out animals or telling us anything about them. We often had to ask him to stop so we could look at something we spotted ourselves or ask him the name of the animal. He felt more like a taxi driver than a guide. He would sit and wait, or look at his phone and then just ask if we were ready to move on after a couple minutes. Luckily there was still lots to see of the main road. giraffes, impalas, baboons, and wilder-beast are plentiful. The hippos are super easy to find and always in the same spot. A little more rare are elephants, elands, and water buffalo. And we were told we were very lucky to see one lion and one Hyena. I just wish mike had tried to get us closer to the elephants when we saw them, instead of simply staying on the main road and watching them walk away into the distance. After talking to other people who were there the same days as us, we realized their drivers were much more adventurous, did more off roaming, explored more of the park, and tried harder to track and find the animals for them. Our first day we were already back at our campsite by 1:30 pm. Much earlier than we expected and 3 hours earlier than the other people staying at the lodge. We were very bored for the rest of the day at the lodge. Thank goodness for WiFi because there’s nothing to do but stand in the pool and talk to your companions. The second day the roads were a bit better and we ventured off the main road some. Mike chased a heard of elands which was very fun. The walking tour was fun, but they only had us out for 45 minutes compared to our lodge mates, who were out for two hours. I think they were trying to make sure we caught our flight, but we were back a full hour and a half before our plane arrived. Overall the experience was fine. Everyone was kind and accommodating, but it felt pretty bare minimum. We didn’t like that after the high price of the safari, we were also expected to tip everyone. I think they should be paid fairly out of the cost of the trip and we shouldn’t feel pressured to pay more for what we already paid for. The tipping expectation was from everyone. People pulling things out of your hands to carry in hopes of a tip. Three different guides. The maids left an envelope in our room. It adds up to a lot more very quickly after already paying for a premium package. TLDR: drive in is long, bumpy and hot but very beautiful and fun. Lodge is very nice, has WiFi but don’t expect AC. Food was mostly very good. Safari has lots of animals, but our guide didn’t do as much as we had hoped to help us have the best experience possible. Walking tour was enjoyable but cut short. Tipping expectation made us feel pressured and wonder if the company is paying people fairly. Lots of people seemed to have an amazing experience, perhaps we were just unlucky to have a medium one.

          Great Experience!
We have visited Selous game reserve because it was closer to Dar and we could not fit Serengheti into this vacation - seemed like a good compromise. I must tell you it was a great experience, especially thanks to Mike, our guide and driver. He is not only passionate and good in what he does, but also a great company to have. Looking forward for our next Safari experience and for sure we will collaborate again with Usambara & Mike for a Serengheti safari.
