          Unbelievable experience, exceeded all expectations.
Our 2 day hike with Bnaya was personal, fun and meaningful. It left us wanting to come back and visit Abuna Yosef and the family we slept at. Bnaya provided us with everything we needed- food, water, donkey and became a friend who even accommodated for us after the hike. Highly recommended!

Magical hike in the hills of Lalibela!
I was only in Lalibela for a little over a day and Biniam helped me make the most of it! He found me at my hotel and took me on an unforgettable hike up to hills overlooking the city. The views were incredible and I enjoyed seeing the animals along the way. My favorite part was, after arriving at the village shrouded in light fog at the hilltop, Biniam asked around and found a family willing to provide a traditional coffee ceremony. They welcomed me into their home, we had coffee, and I got to meet all the children and livestock and got a beautiful, intimate view of their lives. Biniam and I also connected on a personal level during the hike and have stayed in contact since. I had a wonderful time in Ethiopia and am thankful for people like Biniam!

Biniam is the best guide ever!
My friend and I did a 1-day hike up Asheton Maryam with Biniam and the experience will stay with us forever as a fantastic memory. Not only is the scenery spectacular, but our guide, Biniam, was simply delightful! He has a wonderful positive energy and attitude! He taught us so much Amharic along the way, took us through really interesting mountain villages and landscapes that look like something from films, and we had many laughs with him. Furthermore, he took great photos of our hike to capture our special moments on the mountain. Biniam knew just when to give us gentle nudges of encouragement and when to kindly offer to carry our stuff and give a helping hand when we were struggling. It was a full day of hiking and adventure and the lodge at the top where we stopped was breathtaking. My friend and I both adored Biniam, who made the day magical, and who is our new friend in Lalibela!

Even if Lalibella is the most touristic place in Ethiopia, having a walk during 3 days in the Lasta Mountain with Biniam (+251 94 514 1575) who knows perfectly this region for decades is also a nice adventure (except in rainy season). Biniam is a honnest and smiling guide who grew up in particular in Dessie catholic boarding school. The landscape is absolutely wonderful at the top of this 4000meters high plateau which has been eroded by Tekeze River 50 km far away, 2500meters below. Walking and sleeping there will give you the opportunity to feel biblical life conditions.

          Great day trek
I had 2 days / 1 night in Lalibela and really wanted to try and see the Gelada baboons before leaving. Despite it being the rainy season Biniam was willing to give it a go. We did a 1/2 day hike up to a plateau that was known for the geladas. Despite it being in covered in cloud when we arrived, the cloud started to lift to reveal the baboons feeding in the morning light. Biniam was a great guide, knowledgable about the local area and fun to spend time with. The day was flexible around my request to see the baboons and make it to the airport on time. I would highly recommend hiking with Biniam.

I just finished an amazing 3 day hike in Lalibela with my guide Abuwa and It was way more than I expected. The people of lalibela welcomed me into their homes, broke bread with me and showed me a way of living I've never experienced before. I have never felt so safe and cared for by people other than my family and close friends. The issues further north are nothing to be concerned about in lalibela anymore.I went and never felt I was in any danger and had a great time. I can't recommend this tour enough!!

Abuwa is extremely knowledgeable about the stone churches and surrounding areas, there was never a question unanswered and the love he had for his community and them for him you can feel with every interaction you'll see. My only complaint is I was the only person out in the village due to the pandemic and issues with TPLF months prior. If you find yourself in Lalibela this is the tour for you!!

Binyam was a great Tour Guide. We've had very interesting talks and a wonderful 3-day hike with the main attraction Abuna Yosef. There we've not only seen a fantastic panoramic view and giant lobelia, but also a huge of group gelada monkeys in the rocks from very close by. We've stayed with the community, which was enourmously interesting, warm and authentic. Binyam had a good relationship with all the local people and translated for us whenever needed. We've even talked about intimate topics, which was very interesting from a western perspective. The food was batam tasty. The next time I'm in Lalibela, I'm sure I'll book Binyam again, maybe for a big Hike from Lalibela to Ras Dashen... Thank you for everything, with love, Alex

We hiked the Last Mountains with Biniam as a guide, for 3 days and 2 nights in Woldia. We carried our own water and sleeping gear, and we ate what the local people ate (including injera made from barley), because we wanted to keep the trip as private as possible and the price low. Biniam will be happy to arrange it differently, as you want.

It was a great hiking experience and a truly unique rural community experience, and I would highly recommend taking 2 or 3 days even if you hiked the Simien mountains already. The hike from Lalibela was interesting and when going back to Lalibela we saw a big group of Gelada baboons. The atmosphere in the authentic village was unique and peaceful. Pleasant to walk around. The round trip to Abune Yusef mountain is really beautiful, and definitely worth it, but be aware it's at least 7h walk.

Biniam's English is good, and he's easily the most pleasant and honest guide we encountered during our 3 weeks in Ethiopia. We liked him so much we decided to help him in setting up a website and this tripadvisor page

We understand that Biniam is a great guide for trekking in the beautiful mountains and countryside around Lalibela, Ethiopia, but we didn't have enough time left in our trip to go trekking and my conditioning is a little lacking for that right now. But we did hire Biniam to take us to Yemrehanna Kristos Marbel Church about 42 km from Lalibela. It was a great trip and he was very knowledgeable about it. He is always sporting a genuine smile and he did a great job encouraging me to get to the top of the long hike uphill to the church. He never rushed me and encouraged me to rest all that was necessary. It isn't too difficult of a hike if you are in good shape, but it was strenuous for me. He was great as I struggled up the hill. Once there he proved to be very knowledgeable. Not only was he very knowledgeable, he was very pleasant at all times.
On our way back to Lalibela he suggested we get lunch at Seven Olives and even strongly recommended what to order. It was a large sampling of very many dishes, both vegetarian and those with meat, all served with plenty of injera. He said it was large enough to share and he was correct on all things. It was the best meal we had in a restaurant in all our time in Ethiopia. When he picked us up at the appointed time we were nodding off, completely happy and satisfied. His recommendation for lunch was great!
We then did a bit of shopping then went to his home where his mother gave my wife a cooking lesson. They made shiro which we had with of course injera. They also made coffee and we even sampled some of his mother's homemade beer. The shiro and coffee was great. I didn't care for the beer as much, but it was a real experience to sample it.
Biniam lives in a real modest home with his mother. It is a wood and mud two room house with dirt floors. She cooked over wood in the front room. It was smoky, but it was a very authentic experience as to how many of the locals live. Their house was very humble, but their hospitality was fantastic.
In order to add income to help support himself and his mother, he would like to add a room to their house and rent it out to travelers. Due to the humbleness of the accommodations his price will have to be low. In my opinion this type of accomodation will not be for everyone, but for those intrepid travellers that want an authentic experience at a low price, it will appeal to you. I wish him all the best. He and his mother are very sweet wonderful folks. Good luck Biniam!

We are a family of 5, all in the ages 17-60. We did the Abuna Yosef trek with Binyam for 2 nights. He was an amazing instructor, that really got into our hearts. He is professional and knows every step of the way, he is physically strong (sometimes you need his help in the trek), and over all- he is a very warm, sweet person. He is friendly, and we had some really interesting conversations with him. He took care of us from A to Z- equipment for the trek, making sure that everybody is satisfied with the pace and the food, sitting with us and singing near the bonfire in the evening... etc. We had an amazing time with him.

I normally don’t post reviews but in this specific case I'd like to pass on my biggest, warmest and most heart felt thank you to Binyam.

Lalibela has a special place in my heart, and although the ancient churches are spectacular and definitely worth a visit, exploring the local culture and the amazing mountain landscape with spectacular views over the surroundings is really what makes it extraordinary.

I’ve twice made use of Binyam’s services in Lalibela. From the moment I arrived in town, he was friendly, helpful and arranged itineraries that matched perfectly with my request. We went trekking, visited local communities, had coffee ceremonies, ate traditional Ethiopian food, drank homemade beer and tej (honey wine) and danced Ethiopian style. It was truly unforgettable and Binyam was exceptional. He speaks good English and is well-informed about the local culture, the political development in Ethiopia and the history of Ethiopian religion. And then he has a great sense of humor!

I could go on and on with my praise. In short - I can’t speak highly enough of the quality of Binyam’s services, and booking a trip with Lalibela Community Trek is hands down the best way to absorb all this beautiful country and its beautiful residents have to offer.

Thank you, Binyam. I am forever grateful for the moments we’ve shared. I hope to come back to Lalibela some day!
