About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- nathalieaD8481AL0 contributionsExcellentAmazing tour. We ve got to see all the highlights of Eritrea. Asmara with its italian flair, camel market in Keren and sitting in the warm water at green island near Massawa. Our guide Sally was excellent, she took care of every need and special wish. We enjoyed every moment.Written March 12, 2025
- heandme660 contributionssatisfiedThe always try to do the best to fulfill the wishes of the customers! I had a good time in Asmara and Massaua. Thank you for your support!Written March 1, 2025
- Traveler5258370 contributionsA+ TourThe A+ tour company was amazing! Angesom was the best guide and manager! Making sure I had the best driver-Jonah -and Angesom was always working to make sure my adventure was everything I hoped for. His english is excellent and all the hotels were better than expected. The food was really good and the coffee outstanding. A very warm and welcoming culture. This country is full of visual surprises and incredible topography. From mountains to desserts and the beautiful biblically historical Red Sea. A must see country!Written February 5, 2025
- 106MarcoM1060 contributionsGreat experience in Eritrea, thanks to Adulis TravelAmazing 8-day tour in Eritrea, a place mostly misunderstood by traditional western media. It was surprising to see how everything is different from the general idea of the country (for the better!). Ruth (our guide) and Kebron (our driver) were an excellent company throughout the trip and besides all the interesting sites we've seen, we had a lot of fun traveling together. We usually are not fond of guided traveling but this time everything was so smooth that we felt everyday as we were traveling with friends. On the last day, Angesom (the representative of Adulis Travel in Eritrea) opened the doors of his house to us for his son's birthday, so we could see a traditional coffee ceremony. We would definitely endorse them for your Eritrea trip!Written January 26, 2025
- Gautamv20180 contributionsSuper guides. Super visit.Asmara tour review. I must start with the extremely high-quality guides that this tour agency has. Selihom and Angesom were fantastic. I enjoyed two full days in their Company. They offered me insight into the architecture, culture, religions, food, history, everyday life, and even weddings over the course of my tour. Having a good good Guide in this part of the world is critical to a visit that will have you feel safe and informed. Could not recommend this organization more. From start to finish, pre trip planning, support during my stay .. everything was A+. I came to them as a tourist, they insured that I left as a friend. Highly recommend.Written January 15, 2025
- kuni92100 contributionsGreat time in EritreaWe had an amazing time in Eritrea. The guide, Thomas was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Because of him we had a great time in Asmara, Keren and Massawa. Also, manager, Angesom did take care of us very well even though we had some problem on arrival. Crystal Hotel in Asmara and Sarina Hotel in Karen were pretty good. Hope we would come back again one day. Highty recoomend Adulis Travel for Eritrea arrangements.Written December 27, 2024
- Goneflying1430 contributionsUnexpectedly Beautiful EritreaOur trip to Eritrea started with a very long wait to get our visa . 2 hours long on a late flight . I don’t think they are ready for tourist . We came a day earlier than our trip and left one day earlier due to problems with connection to Ethiopia . But our first day of the tour was very interesting . We witnessed how Eritreans recycled everything and how they processed their chilis and spices in the old central train station . Eye opening indeed . Many buildings from Italians are still existing ( some in bad condition and some renovated . First time I ate an engera with meat . Our guide showed us the proper way to eat them which I really enjoyed . I then tried goat and lamb with engera after that . Also visited the old Fiat car manufacturing area which look like an airplane and has an interesting history due to unusual construction of the building . This is still in my mind because I am a pilot . Keren : we went to the camel , sheeps , donkey market . so smelly but interestingly beautiful .Road trip to Massawa was beautiful and curvy roads . Our car accidentally hit a big rock and have to wait for a car replacement . This is when magic happens . A group of baboons came and see us . So beautiful . So wonderful to see them unexpectedly. We went to the coast Massawa and enjoyed another dinner with another tribe fish baked in a clay oven with freshly baked naan bread . Before we went on a boat ride we visited a very historical mosque that is facing Jerusalem . Only in Eritrea . Amazing !! Another exciting thing is breakfast in green island . We were the only group that was there and enjoyed a swim . Visited the historical and old building in the city . When we return to the city we also pass by a village which has the sweetest orange in the country . Our dinner in Asmara was the best ! decorated with full of Eritrean decor and painting of the different tribes of the country . My last meal with engera 😢. Our trip was so good and exciting because of our tour Guide Selihom . She made the trip fabulous, exciting and beautifully executed . She has a lot is secret restaurants , insiders thoughts and places that made this trip memorable . She is very knowledgeable on different tribes , religions and customs . She Speaks English fluently . The manager I forgot his name because I lost his contact due to no internet access checks on us esp the first day when we were on our own . I appreciate the kindness . This company and Selihom are the best in the country . Internet in the country is almost nothing ( some times there’s spotty connection in the hotels ) So prepare to be out of contact but in a necessary internet connection Selihom knows a place . Again thanks for showing me and my partner an unexpectedly beautiful ERITREA.Written December 19, 2024
- Iara L0 contributionseritrea, a unique country in the worldamazing trip to eritrea with the help of amazing adulis travel, amazing tour manager angesom, guide yemani, great drivers. heard negative things about eritrea but when i got there witnessed awesome positive things. one needs to travel to see the truth! the most hospitable, kind, genuine people, great food, great italian architecture, great resistance movement to achieve independence. my fav towns were keren and massawa. so historical. eritrea is a country where veggies and fruits are not poisoned with horrible pesticides like in the rest of the world, even the milk is so good making eritrean macchiato much better than any macchiato in italy. the same with eritrean cheese! university and health care are free for all, cycling is a national sport and many use bikes as transportation and are respected by car drivers who dont push them around. the streets are clean, air is clean, one can even see stars in the lovely capital city asmara. eritrea is unique. it is a debt-free country, self sufficient, who fought ethiopian occupation and now fights western powers’ imperialism. hope they manage to keep the country protected against big powers who always want to extract and control natural resources of vulnerable countries. the challenge for eritrea is how to avoid so much brain drain and keep talented youth in, by giving them more freedom, access to full internet etc (as we know, with all good things, also many bad things enter the country). it is to be seen how the country will modernize without surrendering to big external powers’ domination, globalization and sameness junk that the rest of the world surrendered to.Written October 16, 2024
- Travel163800325320 contributionsTop tripRecently I had a marvelous two day tour of Eritrea with Adulis Travel. The guide Selihom was outstanding. On the first day's dive to Massawa, an ancient red sea port, Selihom expertly explained the history and culture of the various regions and tribes of Eritrea. At the Massawa museum she had arranged separate, one on one, tours with various experts on natural history, ethnography, colonial history and the liberation struggle. One expert came with us on the city tour and explained an islamic monument so old (5 BH, before Hegira) that it aligned with Jerusalem not Mecca. Amazing stuff. She easily filled the nine hour second day city tour with interesting things: major cathedrals; Italian war cemetery: outdoor tank museum; opera house; art deco post office; diverse markets; the fascinating recycling cottage industry. We even went 10 pin bowling in a 1940s Italian bowling alley. With boys setting up the pins and returning the balls. She set up my phone at a internet cafe and at the hotel, even downloaded an IPN for me. When visiting Eritrea definitely get the hard working Selihom as your guide.Written October 14, 2024
- drnorth0 contributionsOne Day Tour Asmara - Best ServiceI booked a one-day tour of Asmara through Adulis Travel. The tour included visa support, and I also had them arrange the Crystal Hotel for me. From the very beginning, the communications were smooth. I had heard a lot of stories about the difficulty of contacting travel companies in Eritrea, but this was not my experience. My e-mail and WhatsApp communications with Adulis Travel to book the tour were quick and professional. I dealt with Yonatan in this regard. I never met him, but he checked in to make sure that everything was going according to plan and followed up with me after the trip as well. On the ground, I dealt with Seliom, who works for Sabina Travel whom I gather was contracted by Adulis to handle my tour. Selihom was an absolute delight. She met me at the airport at 3:00 in the morning to walk through the visa process, and in doing so, probably saved me an hour or two of standing in queues. She then met me just a few hours after dropping me off at my hotel to take me on my one-day tour of Asmara. The tour was great. We had a driver that shuttled us in between sites that we could not walk between, and Selihom gave me all the information I could want about Asmara and Eritrea, including things I did not even think to ask. We hit all of the highlights of the city; as well, I appreciated that she asked me about the things that I was interested in so she could tailor it to me somewhat. We even went bowling at the classic bowling alley, which was very fun. After the tour, the next day, I ran into her on the street and told her what I was looking for and she insisted on taking me to just the right spot. She also checked in with me to make sure that I was getting out on a flight OK and arranged my transportation back to the airport. I don't think I've ever had such good service. And as well, although I know she was doing her job, for that day I kind of felt like I had a friend to hang out with. Probably one of my best tour experiences in all my travels. Asmara is a beautiful and interesting place and Adulis Travel made visiting it easy and seamless.Written September 30, 2024
- rebeccasJ2056NS0 contributionsGreat Eritrea introductionReally nice tour of Asmara and Massawa (though if you are not good with heat, consider planning Massawa for another part of the year...) From the start (help with VoA invitation) through the welcome and the rest of the tour we were very well taken care of. Salihom speaks excellent English and is very good at explaining the way of life in Eritrea as you get to know each other over the days. All logistics worked out great, and we got an amazing introduction to one of the less visited countries in the world!Written July 31, 2024
- johnkZ9834IE0 contributionsBad short tour experience with Adulis Travel-hotel not booked!I signed up for a 6 day Independence Day tour with Adulis with trips to Keren and Massawa and the communication with the owner(who is based in Stockholm) was good and it was understood that I would book 2 nights myself at the hotel in Asmara for the days prior to the tour and the deposit was sent by bank wire. On arrival (I couldn't get my visa from immigration and my passport was held at the airport) I waited for the pick up(even though I called out for Adulis several times) and finally a young guy came forward (no signs or logos) -and was taken to the hotel. The next day there was confusion as to who was in charge in Asmara and who was on the tour (none of the people listed on my visa document showed up) and there was just one other tourist. When I paid my balance in cash as requested there was no hard copy receipt and no itinerary discussion. No one seemed to be in charge and the assigned guide for the day a local bird watching expert) was unclear who Adulis was and what was included in our tour (this was repeated every day). Then on the first official day of the tour I went downstairs for breakfast and my hotel asked me to immediately pack and leave-they had no reservation by Adulis -pretty shocking but the day's guide knew nothing about hotel bookings and was ready to start the city tour (all walking). The 'manager" then kept calling him every 10 minutes or so and telling me to come back and pack my bag so they could take me to a hotel out towards the airport (the other tourist had been booked at the city hotel). I asked him to sort it out as we were on the tour but he told the guide to shorten the tour and come back-total confusion. When we returned at midday there was no space at the hotel and I was partially blamed for booking the pre tour nights myself! After changing the hotel to one nearby (but further from the centre) there was a grudging apology and I was told that Adulis would refund my personal 2 nights booking at the hotel. The next day I realised that I had left some things at the previous hotel and we had to find the maid and find my things (so more time wasted) and then I asked the "manager" to pay me the money they had offered in cash (as he had just been paid by the other tourist) but he refused and said that this would be sent by the owner somehow at which point I realised that this was not a real offer so I was very unhappy. Incompetence is excusable but being lied to is unacceptable. I never saw the "manager" again. The day to day guide did his best but was not clear what we had been offered each day. At the end of the tour I offered to give him a tip but he refused as he was unhappy about how I had been treated. Of course the refund offered by the "manager" was never paid and I have not received any response from the owner (Yonatan) when I ask for an explanation (let's see if he responds to this review!) I have been involved in the tourist business (student tourism in Canada and the US) for 35 years and have been to almost every country in the world and used dozens of tours in difficult countries and I have never seen such incompetence and rudeness (the "manager" told the day guide to make sure that only the other tourist had a good tour to Keren and Massawa!).I do not recommend booking a tour with Adulis. They do not seem to have any real presence in Asmara-no one has heard of them there and the "manager" told me that he is planning to open his own agency pretty soon (he didn't even book my hotel so how he thinks he can arrange tours is beyond comprehension). Eritrea is a great country with friendly people but Adulis seems like an internet operation based in Europe that subcontracts to young guys in Asmara who then subcontract again to private tour guides to do the actual tour (and pay them very little). I would strongly recommend that people book with better known operators (although their groups seemed very large) or find a local operator with a real office in Eritrea where they can meet with the owner and discuss the tour content. If you use Adulis -do not pay until the end to make sure you get what was booked! JohnWritten June 21, 2024
- discovert20240 contributionsGreat tour, great people: Eritrea is a jewelThe best trip of my life so far. Eritrea is a precious jewel to be discovered. Adulis Travel staff has been absolutely perfect. All of them. Always ready to adapt the tour to our last minute requests. They guided us for a full week tour in their beautiful country: Asmara, Keren, Massawa, Quoaito, Adi Kei, and a lot more in between. I was waiting for long time to go visit Eritrea and they have just made it the most unique experience for me and my friend. Eritrean people are kind, nice, smily, always ready to help. If I have to mention one place only I would say Asmara which is a unique modernist well preserved place where every corner is a discovery. And last but not least: the food is great. As an Italian I am quite demanding with food and in Eritrea you not only get delicious Eritrean food but also simply « wow » Italian food too!!Written May 20, 2024
- martinLD10 contributionsReliable tour operator with great serviceOrganising a trip to Eritrea is not easy, especially because communication with travel agencies is very difficult. Sometimes they answer only after several days or they don't answer at all. In this regard Adulis travel is truly outstanding. They offer a 5* service and are always available via WhatsApp. They helped to save my trip and fitted me in on a very short notice. If you are looking for a reliable tour operator for your trip to Eritrea, I can recommend them 100%.Written May 20, 2024
- AK45-EU0 contributionsImpressive countryThe tour guides not only organised the trip, in accordance with what we had initially requested, they also made several suggestions, creating an unforgettable experience. Everything was taken care of, including transport and dealing with local currency. Things not to miss: the impressive rock paintings marked on caves; prehistoric societies represented by million-year-old fossil of a homo erectus skull in the Massawa museum; Qohaito, built during the time of Queen Sheba; Asmara and Massawa with one of the world's best collections of exquisite architecture, beautiful coral reefs in the Red Sea; camel market in Keren; meeting extraordinary people and witnessing tolerance in religion and mutual respect between ethnic communities. Bear in mind: there is no internet or local sim cards, where you do find some, the applications do not work, but it’s a good way to disconnect. For those who of you who have travelled to many countries and everything seems familiar (or nothing can surprise them), Eritrea is the place to go! Special thanks to our amazing and super knowledgeable guides Robel, Efrem and Tomi, as well as to Yonatan who prepared the program. Thanks also for suggesting to try the local yoghurt on our way to Massawa – it was delicious!Written April 29, 2024

We would like to share our unforgettable experience with our guide Selohom, who accompanied us on our journey through Eritrea. Selohom was exceptional in every way – her professionalism, deep knowledge of the country’s history, culture, and current affairs, combined with her kindness and warm personality, made our trip a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thanks to her, we not only visited the most famous landmarks but also discovered lesser-known, authentic places that were truly enriching.
One of Selohom’s greatest strengths was her ability to handle challenging situations. In our group, we had one participant who was particularly demanding and difficult to manage. However, Selohom demonstrated incredible patience, empathy, and outstanding communication skills, which allowed her to diffuse tense moments and ensure that the entire group felt comfortable and respected. Her problem-solving abilities and her understanding approach were truly inspiring.
Selohom also did an excellent job of tailoring the itinerary to our needs and ensuring that everything ran seamlessly. Every detail was perfectly organized, allowing us to fully enjoy the trip without worrying about logistics. Additionally, she had a unique talent for storytelling, bringing Eritrea’s rich culture and history to life in a way we will never forget.
Thanks to Selohom, our journey to Eritrea was not only trouble-free but also deeply enriching and filled with unforgettable moments. If you are looking for a guide who is not only an expert in her field but also a wonderful person who genuinely cares about her clients, Selohom is the perfect choice. We wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone planning a visit to this amazing country!

I'd always been fascinated with this country and wanted to go; however, had always been turned off by the seemingly complicated visa process and could never find a tour that suited my dates. Fortunately, I was suggested Adulis Travel by some previously satisfied customers. I signed up for the 4 days / 3 nights Explore Eritrea 3 Major Cities tour. I messaged Yonatan and voila -in just a couple of weeks he sent a letter of invitation that allowed me to pick up a visa on arrival. The tour was short but sweet. The guide Romel took me all around Asmara the first day, we then drove all of the way to Massawa the next, and to the Keren camel market on the third. Everything went smoothly and it was for a much more reasonable price than quoted elsewhere. Highly recommended local agency in Eritrea!

It was a very long and painful process to get the VOA, being told many times my visa had been issued only to find out it was issued the day before I was due to travel meaning flights were then extortionate. Once in Eritrea, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We had Sami (a youngster) and Robel (experienced) who were both lovely, but Romel was on the phone a lot sorting out other travellers. So he seemed to be running things in country. Overall Eritrea was beautiful and we had a great time but three days was enough for us.
