About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- annleem20220 contributionsPoor customer service & online bookingCannot review the actual ATV experience because we had such a difficult time booking the correct tickets via Viator (formerly TripAdvisor). And when we called the actual vendor, Sierra Adventures, he got mad at US because his choice of online vendor is screwed up. Customer service was so poor that we just said, "Forget it" and had fun elsewhere.Written October 1, 2024

- A2007NEronaldp0 contributionsWhat a ScamWhat a scam. This is not the total price. they want a $50 per person guide fee and all sales are final. No refund available if booked thru Trip Advisor.. Never AgainWritten June 5, 2024
- joankO3013YS0 contributionsVisit to Reno and Truckee April 2024We drove to Truckee to the museum and memorial. Great video of the events that took place there with the Donner party. So happy we saw the museum and monument.Written April 25, 2024
- WANDA F0 contributionsGreat Day TripGreat day trip! Our guide really knew the area and was very personable. We would recommend this to everyone. Beautiful scenery and history of the area was interesting.Written September 17, 2023
- Tennisgalus0 contributionsWorst experience ever- total scam of description and moneyExtremely disappointing adventure for something we paid over $400 for two people. The description of the tubing and sledding adventure is very mishearing. We ended up at a toddler tubing hill after two failed attempts at two other locations. Why were tickets not purchased in advance by the company. We spent 2 hours in the “ car” to end up at a mini hill that was for toddlers. This was a total rip off and very very sad for my 12 year old who was hoping for a real adventure as promised by the description. The other two adults in our “ car” were not with us but were so beyond disbelief that this was what we all paid for. Very very very sad and does not even deserve one star.Written December 30, 2022
- elmahome0 contributionsRiver Rafting- Reno NevadaTim and Jim are very professional and accomodating to your needs- This was our first time ever river rafting and Tim guided us down the river- telling us about the river and other homes in the area and what a great teacher- i highly recommend going with Sierra AdventuresWritten August 24, 2022
- rygum19800 contributionsDO NOT BOOK HERE!DO NOT BOOK HERE! Read the reviews. Place is a scam. Should be able to leave zero stars for this place. We booked and paid for a hot air balloon trip. Communication was terrible. Was told we had to leave at 5:00am. We woke our kids up at 4:20am on vacation and ruined our day. They never showed up! We sat at our hotel entrance for an hour exhausted. No call, no show. But they had no problem taking our money. Beware! Also, Jim sucks. See the other reviews. Look for another agency. We will be disputing this charge immediately. They should have their business license revoked.Written June 11, 2022
- Barbara M0 contributionsTedious “tour”The tour consisted of sitting in a cramped suv and driving around to various locations and true guide attempting to point things out through back windows which don’t go down all the way and need cleaned. Sooooo much time driving in silence. He stopped 4 places. The Donner party state site; he had to stay with his vehicle so we walked around alone. One part of Lake Tahoe (he again stayed with his car) and luckily a passerby took a photo. At Donner Lake and another part of Lake Tahoe he got out and took our photo with my phone (nothing particularly impressive.) The 3rd row in the suv had no idea what he was pointing to and he couldn’t hear any of their questions. For $1000 I expected a tour bus, a guide that actually interacted the entire time, and a memorable experience. Instead we sat in the back of his suv and my kids played on their phones. Major disappointment.Written March 16, 2022
- glennam5500 contributionsUnprofessional, Unkind, UnsafeI booked this tour, saying I was a beginner, and was told it was no problem. When I got there, the guy in the office was curt and rude, telling me I was too fat to kayak. I went anyway. The bus we rode in was filthy and without air conditioning, and neither of the men wore masks. They put me in the kayak, saying “we want to make sure you fit” (I fit just fine FFS), and it was humiliating. The “instructor” left me in the boat on the river for 1/2 hour, leaving me to struggle with no guidance. He told me before we left that if I didn’t do what he said, he’d “get pissed.” It was troubling to be sure, but I was all in with no phone, my purse and keys left behind in the office in a basket (no lockers, also troubling). So the “instructor” came back, and without giving me a demonstration and zero information on safety, we were off. He was immediately angry with me because I was struggling under his inadequate instructions, saying “my boss told me you were going to be trouble.” He was continually yelling at me, and when I said “ok,” acknowledging him, he told he told me to stop saying “ok.” When I didn’t he started mimicking me like a child, saying “Ok” to every question I asked. I told him he was inappropriate and he told me I was annoying and obviously had a learning disability. He was weird and unstable and I felt super unsafe. At one point I tried to make my way to the shore and get help, but I was stuck. He was nice one minute and totally unhinged the next. He started towing me, and it seemed like he was purposely ramming me into rocks and trees; my arm got sliced and at one point he got me stuck in rocks so badly the boat flipped and I got dumped. I got back in (he was screaming at me the entire time)’and we kept going. He said stay in the middle but we were on the sides of the river constantly. When we got back I told the guy at the office that the guide was mean and unprofessional, and definitely not for beginners, and he blamed me, once again, because I was overweight. I thought this would be a fun birthday adventure. It was not.Written August 16, 2021

- ONeil_00 contributionsIT'S A SCAM BUSINESSSierra Adventures is supposed to be a winter / snow activity adventuring co but I think the whole business may be a scam. We (me + 2 friends) never got to use their service while we were on vacation in Reno even though I was able to pay the "deposit" of $20 online with a confirmation. When I initially tried to contact them via phone & email that same day when I got the confirmation, I couldn't get ahold of anyone. So we drove/walked around looking for it for awhile at the address listed & couldn't find any building on N Sierra St with the address # 11. I'm not sure it even exists. Our vacation ended and I went home.. I continued to try and reach them with multiple calls (no voicemail box) and e-mails. FINALLY weeks later, a very rude man by the name of Jim told me he would provide a refund (after he aggressively argued with me about it) in a WEEK because they were "so busy." It is August of 2021 and I never got my refund. Read the other reviews (also bad reviews on other websites like this one) carefully. I don't recommend this place. It's actually amazing they are still in "business"......Written July 27, 2021
- edsI5115JI0 contributionsSierra rip off adventureDo not waste your time owner is extremely rude and verbally and physically abusive. We were on the river for an hour and he screamed at us telling us we were supposed to be back an hour about . Then at the finish he ripped the tube out of my daughters hand and told us never to come back. Worst experience of my family’s life. WE WANT A REFUND. RIP OFFWritten June 27, 2021
- Subtleplatypus880 contributionsIT'S A SCAMWILL TAKE YOUR MONEY. They took my money and we never got to use their service while we were in Reno. After MULTIPLE calls and voicemails left a very rude man told me he would provide a refund (after he argued with me about it) in a WEEK because they were "so busy" It's been a month and a half and NO refund. I've emailed them multiple times and can no longer leave them a voicemail (THEY NEVER ANSWER THEIR PHONE) bc their inbox is full. I think this business is a scam and I wouldn't recommend giving them your moneyWritten March 23, 2021
- rubyprivate0 contributionsSnowmobile Great FunI’m 64 & absolutely loved the snowmobile tour. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! Van picked us up at the casino & drove an hour to our tour starting point. The actual time on snowmobile was about 2 1/2 hours. The scenery was, of course, beautiful. They provided snow gear for those that didn’t have any and provided snacks & beverages for the trip back to our casino. The staff was friendly & courteous. Our tour guide was generous with his smile & patient with the first timers, although he was skilled & non beginners would find it challenging. I would absolutely recommend this tripWritten January 8, 2021

The ATV-Trap Shooting excursion is one of the more fun adventures we have ever had. Not necessarily for the faint hearted but if you are up for a wild ride with a pause to try your hand at shooting clay pigeons you will be quite satisfied. And the backdrop is stunning.
