Booked the bus tour on-line, a 12-hrs door-to-door excursion to the West rim and included the "glass" Skywalk (4000 feet over the canyon). Perfectly organized, from the hotel pick-up, assignment of coaches at their terminal to the driver's instructions and explanations during the ride. Staff was super friendly and efficient. We will definitely use them again...perhaps the helicopter tour.

We took the South Rim tour with helicopter ride included from Las Vegas.

The Grand Canyon is superb. One could never capture the scenic beauty, atmosphere, size and colour of the canyon, on any photo or film. You have to see it to experience the place in its glory - we will never forget it and our photos will only serve to take us back there, so we can re visit our memory's as to what we saw and experienced. Photos will never show others, that have not visited themselves, what it truly looks and feel like to be there. If I was only rating the Canyon I would most definitely give it 5 stars. The 3 I have given, reflects my feelings towards the travelling and helicopter ride.

As for the tour itself:
You have to confirm 24hrs before the tour that you are still going. Presumably so they can update the scheduling sequence of hotel pick ups.
Our hotel (Excalibur) concierge were very helpful in telephoning the number and ensuring we were speaking to the right person. There was no cost for this.

Coach
We were to be picked up at 06:05hrs. The coach did not turn up until about 06:40.
Being late appears to be the routine for all pick ups. Coaches / mini busses for the most part were well identified with the firms Logo and name on the side, easily readable information as to which tour it was placed in the wind screen. Drivers not only checked to ensure you were getting on the right bus, but sought out any passengers on their list who had not checked in with them. They were also helpful if advising others as to what coach to look out for if they were on another tour.
Our coach and driver did neither. She parked at the entrance of the pick up point, no coach or tour identification, nor, did she go around the pick up area letting people know she was there. She did moan at as all for keeping her waiting - bear in mind she was 35mins late, no identification, parked at the beginning of the pick up area and was one of about 10 /12 coaches.
We were not the only pick up from our hotel there were at least 20 others on the same tour.
This coach did not take us to the Grand Canyon but to the firms main bus / coach terminal to get on to another coach which would take us to the Canyon. This coach was scheduled to leave at 07:30hrs which it did. Depending on how early you were picked up and how long it took to get to their main terminal dictated how long you had to wait. It only took our pick up 10mins from the hotel to the main terminal so had we been picked up at 06:05 as scheduled we would have had over an hour to wait.
It takes 5 hours to get to the South Rim and 5 hours back. Doing it in one day was too much. We got back to the hotel at 22:30hrs. The driver who took us to the Canyon was friendly, helpful and pointed out areas of interest on our way there. We did have stops for comfort and a short stop at the Hover Dam - enough time to take photos. However it did not take us to our final destination. Just after entering the park we pulled into an other coach park, where we had to change on to another coach that takes you to your destination. The reason for this according to the driver who drove us from Las Vegas was because neither he or the coach was licensed to enter the park its self.
Would I undertake the coach trip again the answer is No. If you really like coach tours it would be worth going to the Canyon by coach if it was during the day (returning by some other means) as it was fascinating watching the vast areas of desert, broken up with large areas of trees and grass etc., seeing both domestic and wild life, very isolated buildings and petrol stations with nothing else in sight, coming across small communities / towns, again there appeared to be nothing else in sight. There did not appear to be any roads into or out of the communities, some did have what appeared to be a small landing strip on their out skirts.

Helicopter Ride
Remembering we visited the South Rim, the ride was very disappointing.
There were two different helicopters taking people. One had panoramic windows all round, the other, the rear side windows were in three sections, held in by fairly wide struts. We were on one of these. Whilst you could see out OK taking pictures was useless as regardless how you held / positioned the camera a strut was in full view. There was no choice in which helicopter you were in. On arrival to the reception they checked that your ticket was valid then gave you a number and you waited until you number was called out (which was only done once a helicopter had landed and the passengers were off), you were then directed onto that helicopter. The area was only there for helicopters taking tourist around the Canyon.
The ride itself was very smooth but we all found it boring after a few minuets. There were 5 of us on the one we were in + pilot. My wife and I and I do not know who the others were. The flight spent as much time flying over wooded areas as it did the Canyon. Whilst flying over the Canyon we did not go down into the Canyon very deep just enough so you had to look up and not across to see the top. There was no conservation commentary from the pilot - he remained quiet throughout out the trip other than prior to take off and after landing talking about safety precautions.
Unfortunately my wife and I had been on a helicopter ride around New York where, the pilot took us in and out of all areas with a running commentary and pointing out areas of interest. We really enjoyed it which made the Canyon tour seem like a waist of money and time.

On this tour you have a full 2 ½ hours to explore, but if you go for the helicopter ride the time it takes to do the ride has to form part of that time. We wasted nearly an hour on the ride.

Would I go back the Grand Canyon - MOST DEFINITELY YES and I would revisit the South Rim.
Next time I will book a night at the canyon to give us two full days to explore not 2 ½ hr.
Consider doing the pink jeep tour as this takes you down into the canyon.

What I would NOT do is
Take the coach trip as it is too long.
Take the helicopter ride

We were so happy with this experience. We booked online and saved a packet, compared to the sales offices on the strip.
We booked the night before, followed up by giving the company a call and they picked us up on time with no problems at all.

They were so efficient that the whole trip ran ahead of schedule meaning we got back to our hotels at a reasonable time, but still had a solid 4 hours at the Grand Canyon!

We opted for the bus only tour and didn't by the additional Skywalk or helicopter tickets. We were glad as the helicopter didn't run on the day we visited. And the skywalk is just a bit of a novelty. You can't take your own pictures... their ploy to get you to buy theirs. You can take some amazing pictures without the skywalk.

We stopped at the village first and had an early lunch. our coach driver was very informative and warned us that they often run out of food here as it is so good. He was not wrong! The ribs were delicious and just what we needed to set us up for a cold afternoon. Would actually go as far as to say these were some of the best ribs we'd ever eaten! Don't miss this stop on the shuttle!

The Grand Canyon itself is truly breathtaking and we were so glad we did the trip! It was worth every penny.

The coach driver was brilliant and gave us lots of help info and tips throughout the drive. The automated tour guide was also interesting.

Overall I cannot fault this experience and highly recommend it!

Tour Driver Gary Rice is a maniac - dont put your family at risk!!
Great Tour but totally spoilt by the idiot driver Gary Rice. The bus was full so my 16 year old son had to sit in the front seat next to the driver. He drove like a maniac - often touching 85mph and swerving lane to lane driving right up behind the vehicle in front. Often picking up hand written bits of paper to read while driving on the freeway!! Five minutes before the end he stated that his shift was finishing and that he would leave us in the hands of another driver who would "drive fast as hell to get us back to our hotels"! When I challenged him the liar stated that he doesn't drive over 70mph. I explained that I sat behind my son, above the stairwell and had complete sight of his driving and his speedo. I telephoned to complain and was told that it wold be taken very seriously. They were to call me back. Got one call to say that it would be addressed on the Tuesday after the bank holiday but still haven't received a call. Clearly the company don't care about their driver behaviour. This guy is an accident waiting to happen - don't get on a bus to be driven by Gary Rice.
